I’m new to sewing and go figure I found an interest only after losing my mom and grandmothers. I could cry in gratitude for you. Thank you, a million times, thank you. I love all your video’s - every single one. You’re a rock star!
I agree with other commenters. At first I was excited, what a cool gadget, and I wanted one. I gasped in horror when it jammed your machine. You are so clever to know how to fix yours. If that had happened to my machine, I'm sure I couldn't repair it on my own. I've never seen that before where you can pay a few dollars on an attachment and damage an expensive investment. I already knew about flying broken needles, and I was surprised you didn't show in your video where you manually made sure the needle is centered and will not hit the presser-foot before applying the power. Thank you for sharing a very valuable lesson. For future, I plan to proceed with caution when purchasing attachments.
I too bought one of these from Amazon and it was a piece of garbage. However I didn’t give up and bought the brother side cutter SA147. I understand the newer version is SA177. I couldn’t be more pleased with it. It’s compatible with many sewing machines. You just have to clip it on like other presser feet. It finishes the seam and cuts off the excess fabric just like a serger. It’s not as fast as a serger but goes as fast as you can do your foot pedal. I even can use it on my basic manual brother sewing machine the LX3817A when we travel. I can put my fabric under and over for it to act like a serger or I can just put it under the foot and it sews like a sewing machine without cutting the fabric. It takes little practice getting used to it but after that works like a dream. Just a spool of thread and a bobbin. Takes up no space in your sewing room and it packs in my sewing accessory case for traveling.
I'm another sucker who tried to save a few bucks! I'm off to buy the real thing. Thanks for your comments. I didn't want to give up! It really helps to know perseverance pays off. :) Simplysewing thanks for an excellent and honest review!
My first new sewing machine I bought for myself (in 1989) was a Baby Lock with a cutter device that attached to the bed. Loved it--but gave the machine to my sister a couple decades later when got a Bernina. A neighbor gave me her old sergers, a 1984 Juki (1/3) & Bessie is amazing! I just recently got an even older Baby Lock 2/4 that is "new old stock" & oiling it well before try using it. I'm now increasing my love & appreciation of vintage sewing machines with vintage sergers!
Enjoyed watching. I have one but never even tried it. I sew on all vintage machines. I play with a zigzag now and then. I laughed at your surprise with some of the wording in the instructions. Slide aside. The below. Hmmm. Thanks for sharing. Be well.
Oof i actually bought one of these, i think it's the same one you have there. I haven't got around to trying it out yet, & perhaps I won't bother! Other short videos demonstrating these attatchements have made it seem relatively problem-free. Your video shows it more realistically so thank you-- i'm glad i only spent 7 dollars on the foot, rather than having to pay for a machine repair!
Thank you for the video. The similar attachment for the bernina is $100. I can buy a decent serger for about $250. Seeing your machine jam made my decision. I will buy a ruffler/pleat foot with my money
A long time ago I used to help out a sort of shady guy who sold Necchi sewing machines. He'd rent out of conference centers or short term commercial rental spaces and he'd sell a literal ton of of machines. He'd always package one of these feet in with the purchase of a new machine and try to upsell to a serger. No knocks on Necchi by the way. I'm not sure what their product line is like now but I have a BU Mira and much newer HD22 and they are both very nice machines.
Very interesting I've never came across one of those before. My heart was in my mouth when your machine jammed that's never good. I agree an actual overlocker is best I'm on the hunt for one but might wait for the January sales, wrong side of Christmas to be buying a new one 😊
Yes, waiting for January is a good idea. There should be more bargains available... and don't forget the 2nd hand listings... unwanted Christmas presents, that kind of thing. My Singer Simple, Simon, has recovered from his ordeal. I've promised never to put him through that ever again! As for the foot... I think I'll be sending it back. 🙂
I feel like “the underneath of the needle” has got to be the stitching world’s equivalent of the upside down from Stranger Things! Thanks for testing out this mildly cursed foot so we all don’t have to 😁
@@victoriahannah1633 ok . I see mostly bad comments about the foot but figured maybe they had a different machine. Most were not making the starter cut as well. I ordered the brother brand instead of the cheaper foot because I did not want to damage my machine. Glad it works for you. I'm hoping I get the same results 🙃
Sorry to hear that. It sounds like they hit that silly little bar in the middle of the foot. But it's good that it was just the needles. Thanks for watching.🙂
It does work... just not straight out of the box. You have to mess with your machine settings, as I demonstrated in the video. Thanks so much for watching! :)

Thank you so much for this video. I spent hours trying to put this foot on, to no avail. Thank you again!!
You're welcome! Glad it helped. Thanks for watching! 🙂

I was taught to use the right tool for the job! Long live overlockers! 😊
I'll second that! Thanks for watching 😀
I've seen many advertisements for similar gadgets and wondered if they worked, thanks so much for trying one out

For wovens I’m very pleased with my brother SA177 side cutter
Do you have a brother machine?
@@karmicstorm4022 Yes I have a brother machine.

Thanks for Uploading.
Thanks for testing this I think I’ll give this one a miss!
Can't say I blame you! Thanks for watching 😀
Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for saving me money and time. I prefer to just put my overlocker in a rolling cart that I can roll to and away from me
You're welcome! That's a great idea for the overlocker... I might have to try that! Thanks for watching 🙂
Sadly i just baought it and yeah your right its total waste of money
Agh! I think you were quite fortunate to not end up with a damaged machine even if it was not an expensive one.
This broke the needles on my machine.

Forget buying it. Not worth it.
TRUE
You should have had that sewing foot all figured-out before wasting our time showing that it doesn't work.

I appreciate your trial and error. This is how we learn together.
If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all. There’s value in showing people how to test something.
