Nothing to say that hasn't been written before. Amazing, accurate, well explained, so thank you so much for your time making this video and contributing to the personal development of Blender users. Well done!
What a BRILLIANT tutorial! A few months ago I looked for a thorough introduction to curves in Blender, and couldn't find one. And then I found your tutorial. It's super-easy to follow, and introduces the viewer to very powerful, subtle tools for controlling curves. A thousand thanks for taking the time to make and post this. With greetings from Cape Town!
I got frustrated "learning" Blender from the YT vids because most of the people talk fast and have zero instructing presence ....UNTIL now.....THAT was a great tutorial. Clear, nice pace, very well presented....looking forward to more tutorials from you.
Wow, I've been trying to figure out curves for weeks and this is hands down the BEST tutorial I have found. I've watched dozens of videos of bezier curves and none of them come close to this.
Some people complain that I use Blender's light theme, but things like bezier curves just show up better in it for tutorial purposes so that's what I use, But yes, for this first bezier tut I did indeed change the color for that reason.
I've always hated using bezier curves in Blender, it seemed far less intuitive than I remember 3D Studio working, but this one video has clarified so much and will make life a lot easier, excellent stuff!
Re my earlier post: I found the Curve Info by going to View, and ticking "Sidebar", then clicking View on the sidebar. I'm new at this. The manual gave me the solution! I'm learning a lot from this tutorial - thank you!
Bravo! excellent tutorial. In ten years of self -taught Blender I've learned less about curves than you show here. It's more than I can stuff into my brain in one sitting. :-D I'll review this several times.
This is actually what i was looking for, a detailed instructional video on Bezier curve usage in blender. These are the tutorial that ll actually educate me with required skills. Thanks Chris, please don't stop sharing, 🙂
Yes, I could. In my tutorial, "Modeling for Beginners" (the one with the lipstick), I use bezier curves for the construction of part of the model in case you want to see their use as integrated into the modeling process.
Muito, mas muito útil!!! Obrigado!!! Já vi e fiz cursos sobre blender e nenhum ensinou sobre brezier curves tão aprofundado quanto você! Continua o bom trabalho!!!
I'm glad it helped, there's also a new Bezier Pen tool they just added which I cover in a subsequent video if you want to see how that augments bezier curve use.
Why I haven't found this earlier? But better to found later than not at all. Great tutorial!

Nice job, Christopher. I only watched the first 4 minutes because I'm actually looking for something else (nodes), but super impressed with the content and will check out your entire channel plus this video!
Thanks. Blender has very limited curve editing possibilities and it's been like that for many years. Let's hope some day this shortcoming will be a history and we will have a whole vector editing app inside Blender so we can draw full-blown vector art.
Thank you for your tuto ! it is the best Ihave seen. a little dificult to anderstand because I french and my english is poor ! it doesn't matter ! I will spend more time to learn😂
If you know you are going to create a symmetrical shape, you can use a Mirror Modifier rather than duplicating and joining your curve. It will copy the Curve Type, so the Vector "curves" will remain low poly even if you later decide to Apply the modifier and modify each axis individually.
@13:22 how do you get the edit tab in the sidebar (n hotkey)? I only have the item, tool, and view tab. Can't find an answer on the web. Thanks! Edit: I missed it at the beginning of the video: 1. Edit > preferences > add-ons 2. Search curve tools and enable check box
i have a flat box. 3 sides are going to be straight but one needs a slight curve, blender makes what should be a simple task into something of a nightmare
At 5:31 while in Scale > Resize box > property y. Why set the value to 0? What did this do with scale that set the lines equal to one other relative to scale?
How do i add a control point by clicking at any point along the path? i dont want to subdivide or go to any menus, been trying to find the answer for an hour
I'm finding this tutorial excellent but am stuck because I can't get the Curve info window to appear, even though I have ticked the Add Curve, Curve Tools and Add Curve, Curve Objects in the Add-ons in Preferences. I'm using Blender 3.2.1. Can you help please?
im trying to build a 2d layout of a guitar and then make it 3d. My bezier curves do not stay 0* on the z axis and it creates different heights on my curves. How do i zero out the z axis so it will remain on the same plane while i build my initial layout?
Why i have to click every time on the point or the handle point to make it active? Is there any other way to make them always active ready to move points and handles whenever i touched them? Thank You
Watch my video on the Curve Pen Tool that was added after this video was made, it allows for more immediate editing like you describe. But there is a benefit to this method because it allows you to select multiple curve elements and operate on them as a unit. But yes, I know it's a lot of clicking. Use the Curve Pen Tool instead.
how do you get the gizmo to move to the end of the bezier handle, when i click a node on a handle, the gizmo stays hovered over the vertex in the center of the handle, instead of moving to the end of the handle
If you select a point, and then switch to the Move tool on the left hand side tool bar, then you'll see a widget appear. I'm guessing it was one of the handle components. The blue box is the Z-grid planar move component.
I start to feel like i may be just totally dumb. I follow so many tutorials, and always fail right at the beginning because it doesn't work. In this case, when i click Add Curves - Bezier, nothing happens, no curve shows up, none that i can edit, simply nothing. The shortcuts don't do what they should even tho i never changed anything about them, im getting frustrated
Yeah I get the frustration. The first thing to do is look in the Outliner and see if something has been entered there. The second thing to do is do another Add -> Bezier Curve operation, then immediately do a View -> Fit View to Selected. Or press Tab as soon as you add so handles become visible.
Maybe someone can help me. If I right click on a corner and click "fillet" then nothing changes. Also "Set Origin to Spline Start" is gray and cannot be selected. In Preferences I have both boxes enable. re-open the file also doesn't work. I am very grateful for any tips
I've noticed now and then that Blender has a problem with options being greyed out when they should be active. Try saving your file at that point, closing it, then re-opening it. Or, quit the application and relaunch and try it.
Nothing to say that hasn't been written before.

Thank you SOOOO much for such a clever, concise and profound explanations, Christopher! This video rocks!!!
You set the standards of how any tutorials should be .. thank you very much for all the amazing efforts

yes this is true. ryan king is another good tut channel. i salute this channel as well
One of the best, if not the best introductory video to Blender's curve system. Thanks.
Wow, I've been trying to figure out curves for weeks and this is hands down the BEST tutorial I have found. I've watched dozens of videos of bezier curves and none of them come close to this.
At last, a tutorial that was smart enough to change the colors so they are visible. Excellent.
Some people complain that I use Blender's light theme, but things like bezier curves just show up better in it for tutorial purposes so that's what I use, But yes, for this first bezier tut I did indeed change the color for that reason.
I didn't know that there was so much control with Bezier Curves. Knowledge really is power, thanks for informing!

Ok, sorry I've been traveling and didn't respond to your first comment. I'm glad you got it figured out, Blender is a complex application for sure.
Thanks for this intuitive video on the bezier curve in Blender
Brilliant tutorial. First one for me to finally fully understand how to do Beziers in Blender. Many many thanks.
Thank you for the info, and especially the correct pronounciation of "bezier."
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I'm new to Blender and thus I require a lot of hand-holding, this tutorial is VERY easy to follow
the BEST one i have watched so far. Thank you thank you thank you.
Bravo! excellent tutorial. In ten years of self -taught Blender I've learned less about curves than you show here. It's more than I can stuff into my brain in one sitting. :-D I'll review this several times.
Great tutorial. Very very good. Clear and unambiguous.
Slow pace so we can take it all in. Well done
This is actually what i was looking for, a detailed instructional video on Bezier curve usage in blender. These are the tutorial that ll actually educate me with required skills.
Thanks Chris, please don't stop sharing, 🙂
I thought I knew all I needed to know about Bezier curves.
I was wrong.
Thanks.
Great explanation on the different kinds of handles, thank you
Probably one of the best curve tutorials for Blender I've seen. Will you do more on this subject?
Yes, I could. In my tutorial, "Modeling for Beginners" (the one with the lipstick), I use bezier curves for the construction of part of the model in case you want to see their use as integrated into the modeling process.
@@christopher3d475 More please . Great vid and at a pace i really liked Thank you

Awesome curve editing skills! Thanks a lot!

Thank you, I was stuck using blender 2.7 because I couldn't find how to change vector xD
Exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you. I do have auto-translate enabled, just set it to French and that should help.
Great, well laid out tutorial!
Thank you for this tutorial.
Nice Explanation. Keep Going
Installed, everything works, thanks!
Great tutorial! Many thanks!
Much appreciation.
This is an excellent video, thanks
Great video on Blenders Bezier curve features! Some 2d vector apps could take some pointers from Blender on how to control and handle curves.
Yes, I agree. Adobe has dropped the ball on updating its bezier editing functionality over the years.
If you know you are going to create a symmetrical shape, you can use a Mirror Modifier rather than duplicating and joining your curve. It will copy the Curve Type, so the Vector "curves" will remain low poly even if you later decide to Apply the modifier and modify each axis individually.
For me? Extremely useful.
Very helpful tutorial!

i have a flat box. 3 sides are going to be straight but one needs a slight curve, blender makes what should be a simple task into something of a nightmare
Super lesson! 10:48 Fillet choice, the option is not active for me.
I've noticed that now and then Blender won't show a menu item as active when it should. I would close and re-open the file to see if that clears it.
@@christopher3d475 Yes, you correctly noticed. Thank you Christopher!
Fillet and join neighbouring splines options didn't work for me. They were grayed out. I couldn't figure it out.
I like how
Beutiful, is GREAT
we can put dimensions on the handles for example the length? thank you
this video shoud be added to the officeall Blender Manual
At 5:31 while in Scale > Resize box > property y. Why set the value to 0? What did this do with scale that set the lines equal to one other relative to scale?

how to program this bezier to animate the bike chain?
im trying to build a 2d layout of a guitar and then make it 3d. My bezier curves do not stay 0* on the z axis and it creates different heights on my curves. How do i zero out the z axis so it will remain on the same plane while i build my initial layout?
For 5:15 one could just press S, Y, 0 and enter.
Why i have to click every time on the point or the handle point to make it active? Is there any other way to make them always active ready to move points and handles whenever i touched them?
Thank You

Is it possible to at points somewhere in the middle of the bezier curve?
Yes, go to the Curve Pen tool once you're inside edit mode, position the mouse where you want the point, then hold the Control key and click.
how do you get the gizmo to move to the end of the bezier handle, when i click a node on a handle, the gizmo stays hovered over the vertex in the center of the handle, instead of moving to the end of the handle
Seems that i have to change the gizmo out of "active element" mode, weird
Press the Period key, then switch Pivot Point to Active Element.
What is that blue box you clicked to move the handles? I do not seem to have that on my bledner?
If you select a point, and then switch to the Move tool on the left hand side tool bar, then you'll see a widget appear. I'm guessing it was one of the handle components. The blue box is the Z-grid planar move component.
great hack like
I TRIED PRESSING F TO FILL BUT IT DOSENT WORK.
how to delete those anoying points and make it like a pen tool from photoshop?
You had 666 likes so I had to smash another one for you!
Thank you!
yessir
for some reason my Fillet option is grayed out
Every now and then I've seen Blender grey out a menu item that should be available. Did you try relaunching?
👍
