That Quick Groups addon is pretty cool. I'll have to check tha tone out. A lot of people have been saying for a long time that Blender needs a proper grouping system, and it does. I've seen the idea get proposed and shut down or RCS a bunch of times. I even added my own proposal to that pile where I determined that the biggest problem with the request is actually a language problem. People repeatedly ask for "groups" then people would get mad and say "it already has them shush!!". Where as what people are actually asking for are assemblies, colloquially known as groups. Unfortunately RCS is essentially a dead dumpster fire and the Blender Foundation doesn't want to admit it. So the response while very positive it was very low. Most of what I do is complex scenes and not having an intuitive and robust hierarchical grouping system hurts a lot.
For view rotation pivot I find the alt+MMB shortcut very handy. It is a bit like that 3D cursor method, but allows to pick a pivot without the 3D cursor. I prefer that to the Depth option, because I can arbitrarily select the pivot and use that until I need to move. I've also rebound it to the one additional mouse button for ease of use. (And have it on Numpad Del for paint modes where my right hand is on keyboard, while left is holding the stylus)
Yeah, that's useful too. I didn't show it because Im on a MacBook Pro using the trackpad and as far as I know there's not an equivalent for Alt+MMB. I probably should use a 3 button mouse...
Great videos! Thank you! Please keep these improvement suggestions coming. I completely agree-Blender has some unfortunate usability issues that could be improved.
I know the duplicated collection instances are treated like a mirage of the main collection. So if you want to edit you have to edit the main collection. However I really want some sort of way I can edit the "mirage" just like edit main collection because that is the case I encounter often. Just like in SketchUp "Group Components" (SketchUp is what I don't use for years now)
Depth option is applied only to exterior models and is not applicable to interior ones. Why use 3D cursor instead of Shift+B? Also, zoom-to selected num. is better to duplicate as double middle mouse click, pretty useful.
Number 4: I isolate the object > make a linked duplicate > remove the reputation from the duplicate and make my edits. You can then delete that duplicate leaving the original where it was
Personally, I have all additional viewport settings disabled. They are not all that convenient. I use the default settings. And as an alternative to Orbit Around Selection, I recommend Alt+Midle button click. Or sometimes Select + ".". Alt+MMB is a camera fly-up to the place you clicked on and subsequent rotation around this point. You can constantly change the position of the 3D cursor and the rotation point will remain in place or, on the contrary, constantly change the rotation point and the cursor will be where you need it.
Yeah, I didn't talk about the Alt+MMB because I'm primarily a trackpad user on a laptop and that option isn't available to my knowledge. I should have mentioned that in the video. I should probably just break down and get a 3 button mouse.
Although I suggested the Quick group add-on but still you taught me a new feature in it, the link duplicate! I used to ungroup and regroup for that purpose which still uses the same mesh. but seeing it has one already is amazing! one problem I have with it if you can find a solution with it, is my materials get duplicated. I ended up with so many x.001 x.002 etc materials in big scenes.
If you go to: Preferences/Editing/Copy on Duplicate/UNCHECK Material This actually means that duplicate objects DO NOT make material.01s. It uses the same exact material and notes that there are 2 users. Another runological thing.
@@pamhampton2588 It worked amazingly! I have another question to ask. imagine I have two blender files, both of them have identical materials called A. when I copy a mesh from one file into the other, the material gets duplicated which I want to use the same in the scene. is there a way to fix this?
@@danialsoozani Sorry, I'm not understanding the question. I just Ctrl-C an object in one open Blender file to another open Blender file, and it had the same material with the same exact name. So, not sure what your question is.
@@pamhampton2588 Thanks, let me explain it more. imagine in one blender file I have a model with material A. in another blender file I have another model with same material A. when I copy and paste it, I have 2 materials. blender renames it because they have the same name, while I want to use same material for both of them. I hope I could explain it a little bit better.
The “view saved with material” would be game changing!!! Working with different materials is crazy.

Yes, please blender, save the last view (viewport location and zoom level) to all node trees!
The navigation workflow solution is great. Thank you.
Thanks for spotting these! and the tips are really helpful, I hope the Blender team sees this as well and addresses these pesky little issues.

Yeah the quick groups should be a default part of blender
