  • In this video we will be weathering a Jenny Kirk MDV Wagon from Accurascale.
We use a selection of acrylic paints and weathering powders to create a well used effect. The interior has a crusty texture applied to resemble mineral loads from years of use

The chalk markings are destination codes put on in Marshalling yards/exchange sidings so wagons and vans can be shunted into correct positions on multi drop/mixed freight/local goods trains

Thank you. In some ways it’s easier when you can weather ‘freestyle’ but then again having a picture to work to means I have to think less.

A hard straight edge on a mineral wagon could represent an area that was repanalled.

Yea quite right. I’ve done that many times but the reference for this looks like the data panel area was just painted in bauxite. If I was working from scratch I would have painted the new panels in, and then added the data and text, it that wasn’t possible on this one
Thanks for watching, and thank you for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated

      Thank you
This is the pencil that I use for the white markings. Make sure the paint is fully dry first otherwise it’ll just scratch it off 🥴
