  • A quick walk through of the steps I took to weather the new Accurascale 4mm PTA/JUA iron ore tipplers, the whole project took about 5 hours for a rake of 10 wagons, working on a production line.
I’ve aimed to go for a mid 80’s appearance for these, to go with the livery they come in. Note that only one side has been weathered, the plan is to backdate the other side prior to weathering, but I need to source transfers first.

Wow, this brought back memories. I worked at BSC Head Office in transport planning in the early seventies, and I went to Llanwern to see one of the ore trains and the tippling process not long after they came into service. Now I have just acquired a set of 10 and am waiting for the Accurascale 37 to pull them. If I can weather them like you have I will be well pleased. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic. They really do look the part. Ive got the British Steel logo version and they are my first Accurascale purchase. I had a bit of a deep breath ordering them as they weren't cheap but when they arrived i was blown away at the detail. My best wagons by a country mile. They also weigh a lot for a wagon. Waiting for my iron ore loads to come off ebay. Enjoyed watching you weather them. Subscribed.
