I know that nothing beats being in their natural habitat, but since these guys are critically endangered, I'm grateful for their care in the international cooperative of zoos that prioritize genetic diversity, enrichment and raising species awareness. Freddy is such a good Mom, it's the little things she does that are so sweet. Like when Kayembe followed her when she started to move away from the fern he was playing with and he used her leg to climb onto the firehose and she just stopped and propped her hand on the hose to steady it so he could get his balance without having it wobble or move. That is definitely a Mom move!♥️🦍♥️
I remember the day when Fredrika took Kayembe brought by her guardians and immediately hugged him attached to the blanket, it was a great moment. The fact that she started to produce milk shows how much she wanted to raise this child and turned out to be a wonderful mother better than her biological one. Animals are wonderful.💚🦍

Gibt es Ärger zwischen den Frauen, dann ist er stets zur Stelle. Er nimmt seine Aufgabe sehr genau. 👍Sein älterer Sohn Kayembe fordert Mokolo manchmal zum Kampf auf, aber es ist nur im Spiel. Dann ist Mokolo ein guter Sparrings-Partner für den heranwachsenden Kayembe. ❤🥋🥊

Freddie's maternal instinct is so strong that she started to produce milk. She is a great mother. So chilled out and confident. Lucky Kayembe to have such a mother. Does Freddie produce enough milk for her baby or does the keeper have to supplement with bottles?

I have not seen Mokolo attempting to mate with Fredricka. Birth mom is Nneka, and she is with this troop at the zoo. I’m told the other 3 females have shown some interest in Kayembe. However, Fredricka and Mokolo limit the others contact with him.
Welcome! His real mom is Nneka. She is a young mom, and apparently didn’t know what to do. The 47 year-old female of this troop stepped right in to care for him. She is Fredrika, and she raised 4 infants of her own. I have followed this baby since February and have 15 videos on him. Also-- I have one video that refers you to a taped presentation the zoo posted on RUclips where they explained how they got ready for his birth and his care after. It is very interesting.
@@lindadiaz8153 She has approached Kayembe, but only the same as the other 2 females. You cannot tell she has special feelings for him by her approach. FYI Mokolo and Freddy don't allow the other females to care for him. Others have touched and even held him, but only for a few seconds. That's only because they were sly about it and scooped him up. Then, Freddy takes him back, if they resist Mokolo gets involved. He usually only has to stand up and grunt and they give up the baby.
I have not heard a specific weight on her. The zoo has said the females weigh near 200 pounds. They have spoken about Mokolo, the make, he fluctuates from 395-410.
