Today I decided to do the unranked to top 500 challenge on GENJI. I decided to do this unranked to top 500 to prove to myself I am not just a reaper otp. I've always wanted to learn genji and become better at him and this unranked to top 500 with genji is definitely helping me learn genji's playstyle more.
Reaper will always be the goat but I want to learn others so that's why I do these challenges.
We started off this unranked to top 500 pretty bad but slowly I was starting to understand how to use genji's kit better and how to get value with him. Genji is a very tough hero and has A LOT of counters just like reaper. I reckon I will get to top 500 with him soon.
Overwatch 2 Top 500 wasn't that hard to hit but I have been playing since Overwatch 1. I did start on xbox and switched to PC but altogether I have around 2000 hours and 900 of them have been on Reaper.
Reaper is the reason why I got out of gold/plat hell as you can kinda 1vs5 with him due to his lifesteal. It does get harder obviously the higher you go up but if I can get top 500 anybody can because I'm not the greatest player ever. I legit play like a plat but what I do differently is I try to play with my tank most of the time or I do the funny and get a 5 man or die instantly.

There is no warm up code in this unranked to top 500 as I don't practise I usually just go straight into comp. You can maybe play a quickplay game just before. I also didn't watch any guides before attempting this challenge.

I just went through a genji one trick phase for 4 months lol, really excited to see how you do. I always thought he was a cool hero since I started in Ow1 S2, but I couldn't even begin to play him until Ow2 really.

I havent been able to get much value out of the Reaper guy, but im doing good on Cass, dont even think of going Genji though.

i am genji main, from season 1, and top 50 all the time, you are okay genji, make sure to play more safe, understand these use dash only to get kills and come back to safety, and try to poke healers more.

Few tips 1.practice dash shirken 1shot 2.need more value use of E 3.dashing up to blade isnt always the best- dashingthru for some dmg is often better 4.wall climb to ani cancel blade start n end

You have so good aim if you would have more hours on genji, you would rank way easier and way faster
ay choice ik imma a lil late but i used to be top 500 genii so lemme give some tips always right click before every animation like dash deflect melee etc. also if you see someone two bars right click dash kills them and always start your blade on targets with limited movement like zen or someone without cooldowns like a moira no fade
one more thing when you dash in the air for blade don’t double jump until your at the top of the dash so you a have a lil more time to find your target

I appreciate you understanding how shit Genji feels at times lol. Their margin for error is pretty low and other characters can do similar things for less effort.

Quick tip too if u climb a wall or at least do the animation when u are doing the sheathing animation it cancels it and you can go back into attacking or dashing or whatever as soon as you want basically

Do you think genji should get DMG reduction during his blade? Maybe something small like 20%?
Not all of us can float like a mercy moth and sting like a Sojourn blue light, some of explode upon pressing Q
IDK I just feel like 6 sec dry blade is… I don’t want to say bad, because it’s most definitely a skill issue on my end… but it’s… it’s certainly doesn’t live up to the: “The Dragon becomes me!”
It doesn’t even have to be a DMG reduction buff, maybe just increase the time on blade of refresh his deflect CD as well

I still get angry at the game but once the game finishes I remember it's just a game and doesn't mean anything so I just look on the bright side as much as possible
