Been doing this for two months now (just using band-aids) and it's changed my life, quite literally. I've already lost 10kg (20lbs) because I have so much more energy I can work-out and get out and go for long walks and stuff, and I'm not craving junk food or sugar or anything so am eating much healthier and much less often (fasting is literally a breeze, when before I'd want chocolate as soon as I woke up because I was CONSTANTLY, brutally fatigued no matter how many hours sleep I had every night). This had changed my life in so many ways, thank you :)

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. Only then I figured out that I have been a mouth breather. Now I am consciously breathing through my nose during the day and tape my mouth during the night. I sleep amazing, wake up energized and rested, no concentration problems anymore, not irritated and innattentive through out the day. Just amazing

I've been mouth taping for a month since I watched this video, it feels great! I feel very calm in the mornings as if I had meditated. I also have had very stable energy levels, hence I have a much better concentration. I recommended it to my best friend and now she doesn't wake up during the night, she had dry mouth and headaches in the morning, all that is over and her energy levels are high and constant. Dude, use the medical micropore tape, lol. For those new to mouth taping, micropore tape is like the one from 3M, there are other brands though. It looks like paper, it's easy on the skin, made to tape down gauze on a wound. Get the widest width. Extra tips: tear off 2 lengths and tape slightly overlapping them one on top of another to get double the width to cover both upper and lower lips, then fold tiny flaps on both ends so you have tiny handles that make it easier for you to tear it off in your sleep if you need to.

Kinda wish I had done this since my teenage years. Never understood why even getting enough hours of sleep, I felt like garbage. First night sleeping with a taped mouth was a shocking difference. This advice should go hand in hand with Matthew Walker's message about the importance of sleep, especially its qualitative importance.

Great interview. I started mouth taping after seeing your own how-to video and have felt great ever since.
I do want to point out one comment in the video that assumed this as being completely harmless in all scenarios. Although I do agree with this in most cases, one should consider NOT mouth taping after a night of drinking. I respect the fact that this channel fosters motivation to seek the most optimal health for oneself, but I just wanted to point out the obvious in that this could risk one's own life after drinking.
Again, I really appreciate your content, it's really helped me change for the better!

      Hi there Jose,
Thanks for your comment, this is very important and not one that I've thought of. (I guess it's tacitly implied that binge-drinkers wouldn't be mindful enough to mouth tap.)
That being said, the tape is not super-glue, can a quick involuntary reaction will rip it off.
Your point is noted and I'm glad that you brought it up,
      Mike

This interview is timely for our family. We've noticed our 11 year old in the past year has been sleeping with his mouth open constantly and is always tired, has weight gain, and has had sudden allergies. He always has seemed to prefer breathing through his mouth growing up. His doctors say it's normal but we can tell it is not. We have an appt next week with doctor again and I will show her this video.
Our son is athletic and straight A student but this breathing issue has begun to affect him adversely.
I thank you so much for all your interviews but this one is exactly what we needed to support our concern about our son.
P.S. I breastfed all our sons til 2 years old.

      Hi there,
Thanks for sharing! As Dr. B discussed, how a child breath ultimately affects facial and airway development, so it's important to get started early.
My friend, Dr. Ben Lynch has his athletic children mouth-tape at night to ensure their nose-breathing as well.
It may help with energy--I was a mouth breather as a kid and was pretty tired during school until I figured things out.
Post a follow-up comment after you tinker and test with things!

    How to clear nose:
    1. Take a few deep, long breaths (through your mouth if necessary)
    2. After a good exhale, close your mouth and block your nose with your fingers
    3. Gently nod your head back and forth until you need to breath
    4. Resume breathing through your nose, if it's still blocked, repeat the process.

I've been a mouth breather at night for as long as I can remember. I'm in my 50's now. When I lie down at night, my sinuses usually close. It's something about being in a lying down position that makes them close up. But it's not every single time, so I don't know. I watched this last night and afterwards I consciously tried to keep my mouth closed as I went to sleep. Surprisingly, my sinuses stayed open and I was able to fall asleep with my mouth closed. Plus, whenever I would wake up during the night, I would again make sure my mouth was closed and I was breathing through my nose. I got through the whole night with open sinuses! Maybe a one time thing, but I'll see tonight. I think I did breath through my mouth some, at some point in the night though, because my mouth was a little dry in the morning. But still, this was an interesting experiment. I may have to buy me some of that tape!

This makes so much sense!!! I have been extremely tired even though I've healed a lot of my allergies/ inflammation through diet and eating real foods and taking tons of gut healing supplements, and BOOM, my sleep went crazy! I'm like shouldn't I be sleeping like a baby now that I'm healthy and not waking up with anxiety or nausea?? I've realized the first thing I think of in the morning is how frustrated I am waking up with a dry open mouth and a stuffed up nose (I sleep right by a wood burning stove, and its winter!). Yeah it makes so much sense now why my nose mucosa is like nonexistant for the past month and why I've turned into one of those people who huff and puff just to take a bite of their salad hahaha! I've been diffusing eucalyptus at night which has helped tremendously, but I think this is a deep routed issue that mouth taping will hopefully help even more!

    • @Highintensityhealth
      @Highintensityhealth  7 лет назад +2

      Hi there,
Very interesting. We have a fire pit in the backyard and that causes stuffy nose too; the wood burning stove may affect your nasal passage--not much you can do in the winter though I guess.
Try peppermint essential oils too, they help.
But also just re-training your nasal passage to be the primary mode of breathing may help over time.
      Happy Taping!

40:49 - San Pellegrino is also the most sulfate rich of the mineral waters. That is a good thing. I do disagree with the characterization of it as alkaline, though. Not according to my measurements (5 to 6 pH at various times) if 7 is considered neutral. Perhaps when it comes out of the spring as still water it is alkaline but not after carbonation (CO2 creates carbonic acid, a mild acid buffer). Carbonating anything will push it to a lower pH.

Wish I knew this as a child! Now in my 50s & have lots of mouth issues that I now understand to be due to my mouth breathing. As I get older I'm noticing it's hard to breath walking hills, needing to mouth breath.
I'm definitely going to try this.

Interesting that my comment was apparently removed from this video. So, briefly, tracing back a bit further, one of most common reasons for 'sleep apnea', is cranial plate misalignment, due to internal stresses/injuries that effect your structural alignment, blows to the head, or possible birth trauma from the use of forceps, or a cranium that does not restore to it's neutral position, after moving through the birth canal. Neuro-Cranial Restructuring, is a sure way of restoring cranial alignment. My granddaughter, who at 18 years had need of a CPAP machine, due to sleep apnea - I had a snoring problem - were cured by this process.

A CPAP machine with a nose and mouth mask works fine for us mouth breathers. I position my pillow so my head so it's slightly tipped back so my airways are wide open and have a humidity reservoir built into my machine. I don't snore or have dryness, and have very few wakeful nights.

during the night I clench my teeth andbreath through my nose BUT my mouth falls open even tho i dont breath through it :S
I never breath through my mouth during the day. I feel like taping my mouth in the night may make my clenching worse.
Also I hate dreaming, I remember my dreams a lot and I enter them often as soon as I fall asleep. But I feel with vivid dreams I wake up more tired,. In my sleep study also they saw I often skipped sleep stages and went straight to deep sleep. Even tho I clench :S

  • @jamesbond5285

I recommend sleep hygiene, no blue lights, positional sleep training, try nasal strips to possible rule out UARS, and allergy meds taken in the evening. ENT evaluation to rule out turbinate enlargement, airway narrowing, fat in the Neck, deviated septum. Also mouth taping for active gerd patients would concern me. So a Home study test or PSM needs to be done to see if patient has CENTRAL OR MIXED, or obstructive sleep apnea. A patient with low AHI may have a high RDI and still have sleep disordered breathing. just my 2 cents. Get an ENT eval..look for tongue scalloping... Use the STOP BANG score as a beginning point.

Yeah, he mentioned it won't fix obstructive sleep apnea.
At the same time he claims that mouth breathing causes the facial structure, and not possible the other way around?
What about the genetic factors with shared traits? Did their parents teach them how to mouth breath or were they more inclined to do so with their facial structure?
The Darwinian Dentistry? I can see why it's a small group.

High Intensity Health I have actually tried the method and it works brilliantly! At first I was afraid the tape wouldn't come off and I would pass out in my sleep becuase the tape I use is very strong. But I fell asleep a lot faster and stayed asleep longer. The tape also comes off in the sleep from time to time. I also noticed a change in my tounge. Before, my tounge turned white with bacteria build up but now, its a very very slight build up. Thanks for the tip!

10:45 Probably just a mistake, but a huge one. Our diets changed (agricultural revolution) around 10,000 years ago, give or take a few thousand years at best. Certainly not 800,000 years ago. That is just completely wrong, as homo sapiens is only roughly 200,000 years old.

Patrick B, yes that is very troubling. Even if we were to think of the homo genus as just a long continuum going back a couple million years, it was the relatively recent agricultural revolution that was the major change in diet. This is troubling because he seems to have a wealth of knowledge but flubs an _every school boy knows_ fact. I read his book and I do not recall him mentioning humans becoming more _agrarian_ hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Ppl can TRY to shame you about anything. Only if you care will you FEEL shame. I breastfed all 5. For roughly 2 yrs each. In public when they were infants. GASP. Using my breasts for what they were made for, unlike hoochies who run around flaunting their breasts and getting props for it.
Who cares what uneducated ppl think? Ignorance is the shameful thing, not breastfeeding.
