- I did cut out the real BGM, gave the scene a different BGM, altered the volume, raised the bgm volume when Gohan screams, lowered the bgm volume when the announcer begins, raised the bgm volume slitghtly at the end, remastered the video source into a sharper image.

I was motivated to perfect his imagination of the scene with professional sound adjustments & picture quality.
Due to the many same questions: This is not from DB Kai, it can be proved by itself just by looking at the date of the video.
Back then, just the first episodes of Kai were aired.
The Gohan SSJ2 transformation scene from Dragon Ball Kai was aired the first time on the 6th february 2011(!) in japan.

Truth be told, the way this arc was framed made me feel like this was the true end to DBZ. (Well, I allowed the saiyaman saga but felt it was more of an epilogue to kind of show Gohan finding some of his own contentment). The framing suggested that the Dragon Ball story had come full circle. The child finished off the last enemy of his father. Closing the book on the ripple effect Goku inadvertently created. With that chapter behind, the world opens up for Gohan to walk into the future without being overshadowed by his father, nor while being forced to deal with the shadows of the past.
At least that's how I saw the end of Cell Saga.
Yeah I completely agree. Almost every part of the Buu saga felt forced and poorly planned. It made me mad beyond all belief that Gohan was training with the elder Kai, and hyping the shit out of his power up only to be shit on 2 episodes later by Buu. I mean really all that hype for nothing...
This was actually supposed to be the end of DBZ (well technically the end of the frieza saga was), but fans wanted more (again) and Toriyama had intended to end with gohan being the hero again but he realized that Gohan was never a fighter and the fans in Japan (which I hate them for b/c Gohan is my favorite character ;-;) wanted goku to be the hero again so he changed it and that's why that entire arc is like that

And then Buu happened... to everyone who just couldn't get enough DBZ when Cell died... FUCK. YOOOOOOOOOOU.
Hate all you want. But without the Buu arc, the world would have never seen one of my most favorite moments in DBZ and it was Super Saiyan 3 Goku.

I get so misty eyed when I see this scene. Something about that image of power and yet vulnerability. The tears in his eyes as his power is unleashed just gets me every time.
This is arguably the greatest scene in DBZ history....I got chills watching this.

Been looking for this for a while now. I know the "gohan powers up" theme probably didn't exist until the Buu saga but it really does fit better with this scene.

I can't believe I found this vid again after all these years. I found this back in'09 when I was excited about raging blast's trailer. Damn, this is so nostalgic. I always wanted to comment that this is even better than the original version. The theme is so heroic and hopeful, I love it - it fits so much better.
My god, its been 11 years. This hits home.
I think the most brilliant part on the animators end was with Gohans tears flowing upwards after releasing his full potential. It's just a piece of art to see the emotional rage and then the tears for a lost loved one all in one scene.

The DBZ narrator always rocked my socks. I remember when this first aired on the US my entire family was watching this episode and cheering for Gohan.
This should've been made in the first place, the original is garbage compared to this.. This really enhances the scene exponentially! Great!

Actually, you can't compared the 2 ones, they infact give different musics which express different feelings.
Being italian I actually like the japanese version with "Tamashii tai Tamashii, Umnei no hi", but also the american version is Epic, something that the italian version didn't have.

This is extremely epic! It is a better edit from how cell is looking and then the most epic part is how Gohan is looking at Cell. Then slightly drops his head and the anger emotion sets over his face in expression. The music fits in well also!

Fucking incredible. This made my eyes watery because it was one of the epic moments on DBZ. Especially when the narrator talked about Gohan's power since he was young. TOO EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a thousand times more epic, even without the added mystic theme, than the Kai verson. The scream is more emotional, Cell's line is just...fucked up. Really builds the feeling.
Amazing show. Truly, and an epic remastering that only bettered the scene. Now the original sucks and THIS isn't part of the actual show! Damnit people! Now I have to skip the actual show to watch this and then go back to the NORMAL show. >.< Not cool!

However, I recently compared it with the original transformation, which is hands down FAR more drawn out, & elaborate, ergo, much less powerful than your version.
