I bought the Honda Civic Hybrid for many reasons - but most importantly because I could actually get one. The Prius may have its pros but that doesn’t help anyone if you can’t get it.
This video is difficult to follow because the poster clearly flip-flops, sometimes saying "Civic" when he meant "Prius" and vice versa! Regarding roominess, while showing the interior of a Civic (with the word "CIVIC" on the middle of the screen in large letters, the poster said, "I will say the Prius is the far more spacious car between the two. It has more passenger volume, more interior space in the back, and it has significantly more cargo space - you get around 25 cubic feet of space in the Civic when compared to around 20 in the Prius."
Great review! I chose the Civic Hybrid Sport Touring hatch. One of the main reasons being the styling--I like that you can't tell it's a hybrid until you're up close and see the badge. Still getting to know the electric motor behaviors (especially when the climate system is on) but 3 months in, I'm extremely pleased. The "non-transmission" is wild! Very smooth, quiet, inspires confidence with the handling and brisk acceleration.
Thanks Shari! I'd take the Civic for one small reason. The low ceiling of the Prius is just too uncomfortable for tall people. The 2nd generation Prius used to have more room inside - why did they have to change that? Aerodynamics, I guess, but still...
Civic Hybrid will definitely be my next car. Hopefully, not sooner than in 15 years, when the wheels fall off my current 22 Civic. (: Other than that, you perfectly explained why.
I drove both back to back... Ill gave up the extra MPG for the sporty feel and space of the civic hybrid hatch. I like it as my daily driver. Its quiet as hell most times in city driving, and its so peppy from 0-30mph. Also the gauges in the prius was a deal breaker for me, i couldn't see it.
100%. I think past 40mpg people don't care a whole lot. The benefit of 5-15mpg is not much when you're getting 45 mpg combined minimum in the Civic hatch. The hatch looks way better than the Prius.
My first choice would be the Toyota Prius with its D4-S system and high reliability but due to its wide A-pillar and oversized windshield, I have to chose the Honda Civic.
Honda has much better WINDOWS! Prius has small deficient windows and NO WINDSHIELD. Sloped roof instead of windshield. Prius is scary to drive in the dark or in the rain due to poor outward visibility.
I wish I chose the Civic. I’ve placed an order for the plug-in Prius over a year ago in April 2023. Still no word on the delivery date, it’s now December 2024. If you need a car fast, Toyota can’t help you.
Surprised no one mentions the entry/egress issue with the Prius. I am 6’3” and nearly impossible for me. I think of Toyota as an every person car company. This issue does not fit their market. I understand why I don’t fit in a Miata or S2000. They were never meant for the main stream buyer.
Thank you for sharing this comparison. As I write, I am shopping for a new car, and it has been a tough choice to decide between the two (2025 Civic Hybrid HatchBack Sport (and TOuring) and the 2024 Prius XLE. I have test-driven both models and am specifically looking for hybrid hatchbacks. I drove a Honda Civic 2014 for 10 years until it was written off by the insurance as a total loss this month, which prompted me to enter the market. After 10 years, I want to change brands. Still, Honda's reliability over the past decade and the Hybrid Sport and Touring models have made it difficult to switch to the Toyota Prius. I found the Prius's cargo space smaller than the Civic Hybrid Sport (and Touring), which is important to me because I also want to use my next car for car camping. At 5'3", I can easily fit in the Honda with the rear seats folded, using a solution to fill the 4-6 inch slope between the cargo space and folded seats. However, in the Prius, while there is no issue with the slope, the length with the rear seats folded is only 4 feet 10 inches, so I would need a solution to sleep comfortably. I am inclined towards the Honda due to the space, but Toyota is tempting me with its new design, superior tech, and standard options like automatic seat adjustments and wireless Apple CarPlay in the XLE. In contrast, to get these features in the Civic, you have to opt for the top trim, Sport Touring. Additionally, while the video mentions Honda availability, I am having a hard time finding the Sport Hybrid Hatchback in Sand Dune and Urban Grey colors across DC, Virginia, and Maryland. The only option is to upgrade to the Sport Touring if you want these colors in a Hatchback. Lastly, price is another factor; I have a good deal on the Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid, at $32,700 with discounts, while the Prius XLE with sunroof is still at $34K with discounts. I am still shopping this week, so there might be some other discounts on the Prius 2024 due to the year-end sale. The Journey continues....
You can’t go wrong with either one but if you have a better deal on the civic hybrid hatch and it suits your need better, then get the civic hybrid touring hatch!
Get the Civic sport Touring Hatchback it has soooo much room! I just got it in white with the grey interior I love it!!!! It has wireless Apple car play too.
I've had my Prius since 2005 and I've loved it. I'm not really looking to buy a new car, but I've driven the new Prius and I would not buy it. The single reason is that it is very difficult to get in and out of.
Hi. Great video. Curious as to why styling is not a decision factor in your analysis? To me a major appeal of a vehicle are its looks and a key determinant in a purchase decision. Thanks.
I just dont even see the Prius as a 'daily' because of too many "daily" things it cant do and is not good at. I can only see it as a niche car, for niche reasons.

I would have loved to buy any Toyota over a Honda any day in the old days. Since the former takes at least 2 years to get and don't know if I will live long enough, would be jumping for the latter while I am still breathing.
We owned two Prius models for 16 years before buying our first PHEV Prime. Our positive experiences with the Gen 3 and then a Model C indicated another one would be sensible. In that 1.6 decades of ownership we never once had to "top-up" the oil after a combined 225,000km driven. That says an awful lot. We waited 21 months for delivery of the 2022 model we ordered. Wound-up with a 2024. Hurrah. The Gen 4 was gone by then so we received the new 5th Gen. We lost $2,000 in trade-in value on the C, and, paid for two model year price increases due to the long, long delivery. So, nine months later, the car has 8,000+ miles and we have burned only three tanks of fuel . The bloody thing does 0-60 in 6.48 (if that's important to you), and gives us very, very, close to 100km (62.5 miles), on a single charge. In short, it was worth the wait.
Living in an area with less then perfect roads and bad winters, our 2013 Prius has hit bottom so many times I don’t know how it’s still driving. Otherwise we love our Prius! Road clearance is an important issue for us. How do these 2 cars compare?

If you research the owner reviews and satisfaction with the dealers with regards to the recalls you will find a lot of very angry customers. I guess I'm leaning towards 2026 Rav 4 or maybe a Mazda CX5. Something made in Japan. By the way my 2007 Toyota Matrix is still running strong for whatever that means.
@@FM-ij7iu They are both marketed as having an "e-CVT." In the case of the Toyota, this is just a very simple planetary gear set. In the Honda, there's no physical transmission at all. @@GoldPig777 I made that comparison video already. This time the focus was hatchback vs hatchback, and Toyota doesn't offer a Corolla Hybrid Hatchback.
The civic interior looks better, but looks are deceiving. I was disappointed in the current gen's interior quality when I took it apart to install shifter base bushings.
After the lease was up on our third Gen. 2008 Prius we opted for a Model C to replace it. At that time, our daughter had left for university and our 175lb Newfoundland Dog was gone. We didn't need the space anymore and, at around $10,00 cheaper the C was appealing . After 12 years the C was due to be replaced. What amazes most; our 2024 Prime delivers far better economy than the fractionally smaller C model. We can reach 100km on a charge, followed by 60+mpg in hybrid mode. Go with the SE trim, by far the most fuel efficient car available. We have driven 8,000+ miles on 32.5 gallons of gas.
The exterior of the Prius looks way better than the Civic (which looks older than its previous generation). However, I like the interior of the Civic than the Prius. Toyotas are proven to be more reliable than Hondas. Toyotas and Lexus cars have consistently been on top 1 and 2 rankings. Honda is there, but there were times when it even fell below the top 10. That means, my money goes to Toyota anytime.
We agree. We tend to keep our vehicles for 15-20 years. We get a lot of snow in our area so we need a vehicle with higher ground clearance. When my wife’s current vehicle wears out I’ll probably buy her a new Lexus NX AWD hybrid. That will be the last vehicle she’ll ever own, so I think she deserves the best. I’m sure that I’ll be driving my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, long bed until I die, as I’m an older guy now.
Good comparison and I agree the Civic is more practical, has better power, and looks better. I do wish the Civic offered all-wheel drive. I do not like the speedometer on the Prius. I am 6' and can't get a good position on the steering wheel to see it properly. The difference in mpg is negligible to me compared to the driving dynamics.
What's the deal with Toyota's ongoing post-pandemic PHEV supply chain issues? If I didn't see one or two on the road every few months, I'd swear the Prius and RAV4 PHEV were not real products you can readily purchase. And it's not like demand isn't there to buy them. But waiting months if not years to buy such an illusive product is nonsense.
They are both nice enough. Between the two. Civic would be my first choice. But, I looked at a Camry for about the same price. Took it over the both of these. I also looked in the cord to expensive. And I looked at a Sonata Limited. Also too expensive and boring to drive.
First of all, I wouldn't buy any of these cars new. My latest purchases were cars that were used for only few months, few thousand miles, for a big discount (more than 30%) vs. the MRSP. Secondly, I would rather wait for a Mazda 3 hybridized by Toyota, because for my needs Lexus > Mazda > Toyota > Honda. Thirdly, I am rather into Lexus (except for my Miata ND2 RF and my Suzuki Jimny), thus I would rather acquire a slightly used Lexus. Finally, a better comparison would be between Civic and Corolla.
Topgun battle of the best. This is a tough one folks 🤔 Reliability a tie. Prius has the looks advantage. Honda wins in the interior as usual. Prius wins on fuel efficiency and AWD option. Prius wins on PHEV option. Honda wins on delivery, you can actually get one while the Prius is semi vapourware. It boils down to this. We really are comparing a car that we can easily buy today (Honda) vs. a car we can buy in a couple of years. (Toyota). Buying something actually means you get it, not delay it. 🤪 Civic - 9/10 ✅ Prius - 9.5/10 ✅ 🏆 Shari- #1 Topgun auto consultant. Always factual and honest. ✅

@ The cluster set is a cluster F. All auto companies need to duplicate the Accord and CRV interior design and just leave it alone. How often is the layout changed in an F16? The answer is never because we are humans.
Hard disagree. The toyotas look ok when brand spanking new/on video, but they look incredibly aged the moment they get a little dirt on them. They look plastic/cheap.
I like the way the Prius looks but they sacrificed space and practicality for those looks. The roof line is so low that taller people will have trouble, and the speedometer location makes it difficult to see that info while driving.
got the Civic Hybrid, upgraded from a Civic 2021. No contest with any other similar brands in the price range right now. Honda wins. Oh, btw, I have owned Kia, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Bmw, Hyundai and test driven many other brands like Mercedes, Audi, and many other cars before. Honda seems to do it right every time and I really value that. I am not saying that this is the best car ever but definitely the best compromise on a budget if you want just a decent amount of power, fuel economy over long distances, comfort and fun to drive stuff, it's not a Porsche but you get the reliability over time
The Toyota Prius Prime XSE premium, is the best car by so much that there's no contest!! I get 52 miles on electric alone, driving mainly on surface streets, and a calculated 118 mi per gallon with the gasoline engine. Totally worth the wait! Unbelievable power, fun to drive, and beautiful. The only downside, is the over complicated electronic gimmicks on the car. It's like some game boys were set loose! Aside from that, the car is wonderful!
I ordered a new Hatchback Hybrid, it has more room inside and more practical for my needs. You can't go wrong with either. But Prius and Toyota hybrids are generally better made.
rather than reciting manufacturer's numbers I would like to know what you are getting for real world mileage right now - if it's -10C ( it is winter in Canada right now ) I'm pretty sure none of those numbers are real or even close if you have to run the car on defrost for 10 min to melt the windshield...how about some real world real life info rather than repeating the party line...? also the stuff about replacement batteries is a bit disingenuous since this is the 1st year of the Civic and the Prius has been around since 2000 - you think 8-10 years from now Honda batteries will be so scarce? - quite doubtful - tho being Honda ( I have a snowblower of theirs - great on gas - expensive for parts ) the OEM one will probably be nuts but by then there will be rebuilds of those as well...
Think twice ..Hybrids shine in stop and go city traffic. But there is practically no advantage if you do interstate driving..and they cost more to buy...it could be years before you bought enough gas to realize the thousands more you paid for it
I dont agree about Prius being nice looking. It looks like it is 'trying' to be nice looking, while the Civic must suffer from the bulbous look that every single other roomy sedan MUST also have, in order to accomidate any decent seblance of rear room and cargo. Civic all the way for me because it is a true daily, not some niche car that pretends to be just because of four door handles.
Because we keep our vehicles for 15-20 years or 250K - 300K miles and because Toyota has been manufacturing hybrid vehicles for longer period and that they’re so much better in their design, I’d definitely go with the Prius AWD. But because we get so much snow in our area, and we need a higher ground clearance, we’d have to choose the RAV4 or the new Crown Signia hybrid or a Lexus NX AWD hybrid. My wife loves the Lexus NX AWD hybrid and the Crown Signia AWD hybrid, so after her 19 Outback (currently only 40K miles) wears out, I’m thinking that I’ll buy her the NX AWD hybrid as I’m sure that will be the last vehicle that she’ll ever have to own. As for me personally, I’ll be driving my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, long bed , TRD Performance exhaust with the Premium and Technology pkgs. it currently has only 16K miles and is almost 2 years old.
I see that both cars still have the 1990 Gloomy Grey interiors that became popular almost 35 years ago. Gloomy Grey and Death Black was great in 1990, but now they’re very Old, Outdated, Depressing, Drab, Same Ole, Same Ole puky interior colors that every other automaker has been shoving down Everyone’s throats for decades now.
Between these two, I’d choose the Civic. I simply prefer Honda’s design ethos and their engineering choices. Plus, much as I want to love Toyota cars, I just find them uninteresting when I get inside-fussy and over-styled with discordant materials choices.
I don't agree with your choice. You prefer Honda civic obviously.! And There is no comparison to be made between the Civic and the Prius. The Civic is a compact car, so it plays in the Corolla's court. I will never agree with your reasoning. Toyota and Prius forever.
None! LOL... I will stick to Mazda 3. Civic and Prius can't even come close to the premium feel and looks of Mazda 3 that has so much charisma! Honda Civic is just ugly! It has that funny looking front fascia and the interior of the Civic is not refined at all. Prius on the other hand is too small and overpriced.
Toyota Corolla PHEV soon coming by using China BYD in Japan will have less than 3 liter/100km have 100 km range electric and over 2000 km on a single tank,& fully charged electric
Seriously. Who'd risk their life (or others lives), with a Chinese EV. Or ANY car built in their warped reality. That is nonsense. That's trump level shit. China can't make a screwdriver fit to use. For Fuck's Sake.
No offense but Prius and Corolla have that dorky geeky tech nerd look. New Honda Civic has that more mobster gangster look. Now Toyota Camry is awesome looking.

The civic interior looks better, but looks are deceiving. I was disappointed in the current gen's interior quality when I took it apart to install shifter base bushings.
I have a 2015 Toyota Prius c and I love it
After the lease was up on our third Gen.
I like both cars but why can't they compare hatchback versus a luxury car?
Either one of those would be great new daily drivers.
Prius = Made in Japan. End of argument.
@@lennygarrison6836 Well.... Honda has been building quality from Ohio for 30 plus ➕️ years now. Remember, they are Honda, not Hyundai. 😊
In Canada we need all wheel drive so Prius!
Good comparison and I agree the Civic is more practical, has better power, and looks better. I do wish the Civic offered all-wheel drive. I do not like the speedometer on the Prius. I am 6' and can't get a good position on the steering wheel to see it properly. The difference in mpg is negligible to me compared to the driving dynamics.
ditto
I’ll take the Camry hybrid.
Prius is the best looking car on the road for under 50k
No, for under $150,000.
What is going to happen after 20 January 2025?
Jan 21 .
Let's be clear Honda was the first to mass produce hybrids. It was called the Honda Insight.
@@pigg20021 Technically the Prius came first, but just not in North America. It launched in Japan a few years before the first Insight.
Based on prices, it would be better to compare the Civic hybrid with the Camry. The Camry wins hands down.
You’re comparing apples to oranges, not a fair comparison. One is a compact other a mid sized sedan…try again!
He mentioned "prices".
For two models that are very close, styling and made in Japan quality are the tie breakers for me and that means Prius.
Topgun battle of the best. This is a tough one folks 🤔
Reliability a tie.
Civic - 9/10 ✅
Prius - 9.5/10 ✅ 🏆

Haha thank you kind sir! 🙏🙏🙏

You’re welcome sir! How much do you charge to assist with a car purchase? Do you have professional dealers you recommend?
@@billyrock8305 Car Help Canada membership is $95. Similar to APA. Amazing deals are finally starting to come back. The only limitation is we can only refer members to dealers in the Greater Toronto Area right now.
Forgot to mention..Prius you have to "fit" the car...The low roof and strange cluster set up, doesn't fit all.
@
The cluster set is a cluster F. All auto companies need to duplicate the Accord and CRV interior design and just leave it alone. How often is the layout changed in an F16? The answer is never because we are humans.
Didn’t catch the 0 to 60 of the Honda.
No doubt the Civic is more practical, but the Prius looks so very much better.
I can't disagree more. The Civic looks like an adult's car. The Prius looks like a spaceship trying to look cool.
Hard disagree. The toyotas look ok when brand spanking new/on video, but they look incredibly aged the moment they get a little dirt on them. They look plastic/cheap.
You "live" on the INSIDE.
I like the way the Prius looks but they sacrificed space and practicality for those looks. The roof line is so low that taller people will have trouble, and the speedometer location makes it difficult to see that info while driving.
@@Xerazal Agreed... Outward visibility, and especially rear visibility, is better in the Civic.
got the Civic Hybrid, upgraded from a Civic 2021.
I get 52 miles on electric alone, driving mainly on surface streets,
and a calculated 118 mi per gallon with the gasoline engine. Totally worth the wait!
Unbelievable power, fun to drive, and beautiful. The only downside, is the over complicated electronic gimmicks on the car. It's like some game boys were set loose! Aside from that, the car is wonderful!
My choice would be the civic…… 4 doors versus 2 doors
Wait a minute.................................................
Now do a video of the new Camry vs Civic Hybrid
No comparison...Camry anytime.
Still a hard decision for me. As someone who does drive cars until the wheels fall off, a plug in does have the most future proofing imo
Think twice ..Hybrids shine in stop and go city traffic. But there is practically no advantage if you do interstate driving..and they cost more to buy...it could be years before you bought enough gas to realize the thousands more you paid for it
Honda is always the winner over Toyota. Toyota is a rental car feel and ownership experience.
When trading a vehicle every 5 or 6 years, I'll take the Honda. When keeping a car for more than 6 years, Toyota
All things put aside, Honda always does better than Toyota in passenger and cargo space.
😂 Prius " pretends" 😂
The Prius looks so much better!
On the inside?
Prius also doesn't look better from the outside. While it goes look good but the front headlights just make it look weird.
Prius l9oks way bettet in my opion. Civic is a grest csr but looked like thus for mamy years now.
25 Camry le is better value
Good luck finding one at dealerships
Prius has a Spare Tire, it wins
No, it doesn't. Not in the USA anyway. Fantastic car though.
You must be kidding Prius is head and shoulders above the Honda hybrid
Between these two, I’d choose the Civic. I simply prefer Honda’s design ethos and their engineering choices. Plus, much as I want to love Toyota cars, I just find them uninteresting when I get inside-fussy and over-styled with discordant materials choices.
I don't agree with your choice. You prefer Honda civic obviously.!
And There is no comparison to be made between the Civic and the Prius. The Civic is a compact car, so it plays in the Corolla's court.
I will never agree with your reasoning. Toyota and Prius forever.
The 2025 Civic is a midsize car. Check out the dimensions, it grew.
9:41 LoL Prius or civic 😅
It's a trick question. The real answer is Camry.
Your answer is the trick (Camry) zonk!
None!
😂😂😂
🤪
Affordable premium, that must be a thing now?
Premium feel can only go for so long. I’m ready to replace my Mazda 3 turbo. Yesterday’s commute at 22 mpg isn’t doing any favors.
Both are too small
The Civic looks old.
These hybrids used to be poor men's cars. Now, everyone is so hype up to get one
None as good as BYD hybrid from China.
Toyota Corolla PHEV soon coming by using China BYD in Japan will have less than 3 liter/100km have 100 km range electric and over 2000 km on a single tank,& fully charged electric
@@h8rryImpressive stats. How are ten year old BYDs holding up?
