Such a awesome truck!!! My father in law is now the owner of this truck!!! So cool to stumble across this video! He has big plans to clean her up and put her back to work!!!
That was a gem of a truck, glad to see that it's "going home". Way back in the day I drove a 63 Mack B-model that I pulled chip trailers from the local saw mills to the paper factory. A 194 Maxidyne engine with a 5 and a 4 behind it. Back when trucking was fun! Manual steering, no AC, not even an air ride seat! But I worked it 6 days a week for 5+ years.
Back in the very early 60's there was a trucker just up the alley in our old neighborhood that owned a 50's Diamond T. It was a maroon-colored, tandem-axle semi-truck with a sun visor and a lot of chrome. For a young kid back then, it was the most beautiful truck that I'd ever seen, bar none.
Hope it finally get some love. Needs to be restored and run. You were a good caretaker while she was in your care and custody. You gave her all the hard work and ether a working 58 needs.... Parking a truck as museum piece will kill it for sure.
I know a fellow that restored a Diamond T tractor of that vintage and hooked it to a vintage trailer and hauled a load of organic soy products from Iowa to Colorado just for the experience. When he got home I asked him how it went. He said, "Those old truckers were some tough s.o.b.'s.
My father had one like that probably around 1962 or so , with a flat bed on it , no dump . He did hauling for local farmers and merchants in the Nashville area .
I remember starting out as a mechanic in the mid-seventies having a lot of semi's around with no power steering, steel cabs bolted to the frames with no air-ride, Hendrickson "gut-buster" walking-beam suspensions, no air-ride seats, air wipers, etc. Those were the days when men were men, and women were glad of it!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@gac914 I have been driving trucks for 27 years now and my back bothers me quite a bit. More and more I wish I had got into something else so I didn't have the back pain!
A LONG LONG time ago, I had a 1968 Diamond Reo Conventional with a Buzzin-Dozen under the Hood and a Spicer 4X4 air shift, cold take 80,000 Lbs Over Donner with No sweat at all. She leaked oil from every possible port by 1973, California hated it, I loved it at the time. I sold her, she was a Dandy, and she did me well.
what a beautiful truck,,,,,,,what memories..........i learned on a 1962 diamond t..........with a 5X4 rockwell transmission and eaton 42 M rears if i remember correctly........great video myfriend...........also with the worst brakes in the world................
My uncle had one of these years ago! It had a detroit diesel engine and we replaced the rear tandem with a set from another truck. The damn thing cranked in reverse once! Blew oil out the exhaust pipe before we could kill it!
Yes they would run in reverse , black smoke coming out the air cleaner, that happens when someone would try kill the engine using the clutch and foot brakes or trying to pull or roll start forwards with the transmission in reverse gear . The oil pump won’t build up oil pressure like it would if runs in correct rotation. They would also pump engine oil out of the crank case breather if it was bolted the rear bell housing, when doing a oil and filter plus Lube Finer oil
and pour in 11 gallons of 40W oil ,3 gallons for the Luber-Finer filter housing. Some people get in a hurry and start the engine than rev the engine up,the gear train in the bell housing picks up the oil and forcing it out of the crank case breather on the bell housing then on the ground, instead of starting the engine let idle and purging the air from the Luber-Finer housing
What a Great Good News story just before Christmas. Love how the kids got her back. Similar thing happened with my mate who sold his Dad's old Petrol Austin flatbed. It went Auction, someone bought it and then my mate's nephew bought it back.
Love old trucks like that Diamond T. Reminds me of the 52 Mack logger converted to a water truck that I drove a couple of summers. 200 Cummins and a Brownie that I remember. The main box may have been four speeds but it was a long time ago.
I started driving with a 48 White, moved up to a 53 International, then, a 63 International with power steering ! All were gas. All of them was in very early 60's.
Lifetime of work to a garden ornament, well at least it's not suck in the back of a shed and forgotten about bro. Cheers for the video. Safe travels up your way.
Back in 2013 it reminded me of Bertha in Maximum Overdrive just due to the fact that they look similar in body shape, around the same year, and round headlights with one broken.
G'day Jeff ,,, I saw the Diamond, and could only think how nice it would look with some Paydirt TLC,,, oh well ,,, there'll be others . Respect from Down Under
Great old ride! The fuel truck in the background looks WAY too familiar. I sold one like it in 2007. If you don't mind, message me with the lettering on the side.
Top speed maybe 55mph, granny gear get out and walk around the truck at idle. We had a old International dump truck it was not fast but, hauled any load you dare put in the box.
Probably not the original use for this truck. It is common for dump truck conversions. Probably taken off another truck as well. Looks perfect though. Its still a practical working truck and does the job cheaper than hiring a contractor.

It's been years since I saw an old ten wheeler like that. Always saw them haul crushed rock.
You cared for it and it worked well for your needs. Now the kids of the previous owner can enjoy it again .
A thing of beauty! Long may she run.
😢 Goodbye old DT, it has been a lot of ups and downs but all of them have been good ones.
Goodbye Diamond T. Although I never knew you at all, you had the grace to haul some dirt, while those around you stalled.

I love the fact that you are roll starting it ! It brings back memories. Now most people can't start much less drive a manual transmission vehicle.
Born from a time when men identified as men and trucks were spine busting workhorses instead of something with the styling of my wife’s clothes dryer.

Yes, I hope that is what happens as well.
I wish I could have bought it. Glad its going back to its roots though.

262 Cummins was the NH-220 with a turbo
thats a Diamond T alright. Remember this model series well from my youth. That manual steering will give him a workout
If I had an old truck like that and the money
I'd love to do a frame up restoration nothing wild just back to looking new
Glad to see the real trucks still around

Fantastic big machine. The video title worried me so it was a huge relief to hear she was "going home".
👍😃
Nice old truck. Probably ran like a champ for it’s age. After the clutch pop start..
Should have called her Old Smokey
Surprised it had a turbo in ‘58.
So the old girl made it back home to its beloved family cool story.

No problem 👍
That old Diamond T looks like there is enough of it there to make a great project truck
Rare trucks like that really get attention at truck shows!
That 262 Cummins was really popular back in the day, it was basically a NH 220 with a turbo charger.
Dunno about the No power steering. Has it not got the space age type steering It was a few years early a prototype called Armstrong
Nice, hope they give it a good going over to save it for their kids and grand-kids.
I don't know why but it reminds me of a song and it's a good one Chicken lights and crumb If you've ever pressed a clutch for a living look it up

Diamond T, built back when men were men and women were glad of it.
That's cool. A true legacy truck. Now the decision to restore or leave alone. I'd put it back original but that's me.
Cheers

I don't know what went over it originally, but the oil part is above that and filters the air still today
