Incredible that such a car was built in 1955, at least ten years ahead of its time.
You're right.
I suggest you look out for The Beast of Turin.
That’s exactly what I thought, it totally looks like a late 60s car!
This car is right out of the Speed Racer animated series I watched as a kid in the late 1960s. It hits me on an emotional level. Amazing find Lou! A++++ 100%
Hi soyounoat, High praise!
This car is beautiful. It reminds me of the car that John Cobb had to set the land speed record at Bonneville in 1947.
Hi Robert, Happy to read "This car is beautiful." :-) Thank you for sharing what his car reminds you of, Lou
Imagine a 270 C.I.D. 4 cylinder engine, with a 15:1-17:1 compression ratio. This beast was made in the 50s!
That car is the epitome of "True Power." Great video Mr Lou!
Hi FobbitOperator, Happy to read "That car is the epitome of "True Power."" :-) My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Love that Offenhauser engine , a beautifully machined piece of art for sure .
High praise.
This is absolutely one of the coolest cars I've ever seen. I'm amazed. 👌
High praise.
Fuel injected Offy engined streamliner. That's one of the tastiest things I've seen for a while. I'm also loving the movable aero flap at the rear.

Wow!!! A truly incredible machine! To my mind at least, this race car was about 3 decades ahead of it's time and it's competition! It's an absolute pity and shame that it never got to race at Indy. I'm pretty sure if it had, it would have practically overnight, obsoleted all of the existing crop of so-called "traditional Indy roadster" design race cars that from the late '40's right up until the early '60's had become a somewhat ubiquitous, standardized design that had totally dominated Indy.
Hi Martin, Happy to read "Wow!!! A truly incredible machine!" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
I’m impressed it ran. Piece of history.
Happy to read you are impressed it ran :-) My pleasure sharing this "Piece of history" with you.
Howard Keck who owned the car Vukovich drove in1952, 53 and 54 was so sad at Vukovich's death in the Indy 1955 race, that he quit racing. Because Keck quit racing, this car was never raced.
In 1952 Keck brought the first roadster type car to Indy. In the Indy roadster, the engine was offset to the left of the driver. In 1952, Vukovich had a big lead in the race, but a small part broke only 8 laps from the finish.
Great restoration.....I've head about this car but I had never even seen a picture of it.

Boy, this one looks and sounds ready to impress. And the history/pedigree is all there, too. What a great car for the Concours! Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, High praise! You're welcome!
I thought I was familiar with most of the Specials built for Indy but this is the 1st time learning of this beautiful machine.

Beautiful race car. Looks like the famous Mercedes-Benz W 25 Avus from 1937. This Mercedes racing car has the same flow lines and was already tested in the wind tunnel back then.
Hi luxor 8071, Happy to read "Beautiful race car." :-) Glad to share this car with you, and thank you for sharing, Lou
That's a fierce sounding Offy 4 banger.
You're right!
I'm speechless, Lou! Wow! In a football game, you just scored 100 points. Breath-taking vehicle.
High praise ultraviolet tp!
Very historical car - definitely one of a kind. Would love to see the car do a fly-by.
Happy to share this "Very historical car" with you :-)
My dad was the one hired to do the lettering and numbering when it was originally restored in the late 1980s. It used to have gold leaf.

What a beautifully sculpted machine. Looks like an original "Speed Racer" car !
NICE!
Like the owner says, it is the most beautiful Indy racecar I have ever seen
:-)
Man. Bless the owners with a story to tell of owning these cars. Thanks for another awesome on Lou.
HI Man Her, You're on the right RUclips Channel for Car People sharing stories :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lou, what a restoration story of a little known piece of history. Outstanding! But better yet is the just downright nice people you bring to us in the car world!
Bob, Happy to share this "little known piece of history" with you :-) I agree, there are nice people on the Channel too, Lou
This rare 1955 Indianapolis 500 Quin Epperly Streamliner race car in red has a simply exquisite design! Fantastic to hear, including those flames coming out of the exhaust, the roar of its powerful 255 CI Offenhauser 4-cylinder engine! I agree with the owner's assessment that "It's possibly the most beautiful Indianapolis race car I've ever seen; it doesn't look like a 1955 race car. It's absolutely timeless!" That little final meeting with the builder's son was excellent! Best regards, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) "Fantastic to hear, including those flames coming out of the exhaust" I agree, and the flames were quite the nice surprise. Lou
Hi Lou, that car is a beast, and a great looking one at that, they have done a great lob of restoration of the car, a nice video Lou.
Hi Philip, Happy to share this "Beast" with you :-) Glad to read you appreciate the restoration of this car, Lou
That is an incredible story of a piece of history. Beautiful restoration, thanks Lou!
Happy to read you enjoy the story of this car :-) You're welcome John!
To say this restoration is gorgeous is to sell it short! The quality of design and detail that went into the construction of such a car is amazing, being that it’s intended purpose would be harsh, or worse!
Hi James, High praise for this restoration.
Race me red car...rebuilt with, "no budget". Man, do I love to hear that! What a beast! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Happy to share this Red Race Car with you :-) You're welcome.
It just looks and sounds phenomenal, everything about this fantastic Indy car screams excitement. Thanks to Lou and all for bringing this gem to the channel today; really appreciated.
Hi Bruce H., "everything about this fantastic Indy car screams excitement" Well said, and I agree. My pleasure bringing this "gem" to you. You're welcome, Lou
1935 Chrysler Airflow was wind tunnel tested 20 years before the Quinn Epperly...and was mass production as well.
Hi George, Like this one? ruclips.net/video/V0odZjDfKCw/видео.html
Wow.....Lou, that's one of those cars they say "Looks fast sitting still"...
And that wild engine tune sounds crazy....I wouldn't what to try to drive that stoplight to stoplight...ever.
I didn't quite understand the owners name though...it was Greek to me.
Hi Gods own Drunk, Happy to receive a "Wow..." from you :-) "Looks fast sitting still" I agree. Lou
Makes my day. 👍🏻

Wow what a surprise. I didn't realize that USAC/Indy rules allowed an enclosed body. The vertical "slab" sides are an especially modern aero touch as they didn't become common in sports cars until the late sixties.
Hi JackF, Happy to read "Wow what a surprise" :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
🙋♂️🤗. THANKS LOU,ART ,FOR SHARING THIS AMAZING 🤩 PIECE OF HISTORY, AND A WORK OF ART 🖼️ IN ITSELF ‼️💚💚💚
Hi Budget Audiophile Life-long, Happy to read you enjoy this "WORK OF ART" :-) You're welcome, Lou

Happy to read "Sounds great" :-)
Wow - interesting race car.
Definitely the first of a new era of aerodynamics. Cool looking and sounds great.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read "Wow - interesting race car. " :-) Fun to share the history of this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Thanks Lou...great post. What's not to like...love...especially with an Offenauser . I'm so glad I lived in the day when I heard 24-26 Offys at Trenton Speedway. I can still imitate the sound well and remember it like a symphony, and the methol-alcohol better than my grandma's cookies....
You're welcome Theo... Ahhh fond memories :-) "I can still imitate the sound well and remember it like a symphony, and the methol-alcohol better than my grandma's cookies...." NICE!
You have to remember Pappy Hough, an Gasoline Alley
@@robertklein1316 Sorry... just a bit before my time. I started going to races in 1957-58
Nice find Lou. Very nice find!
Hi Peter, Happy to share this "Very nice find!" with you :-) Lou
This car is as unique as the STP-Paxton Turbocar. I would have thought this Epperly car came from Europe.

Beautiful car.......Would be cool to see it photographed with theHammon-McGrath "Redhead" Bonneville streamliner....They seem to have a lot in common, both red, both one of a kind, both very sexy......A picture of them both at sunset on the salt flats would be amazing......
Hi Steve, That would be a nice photo of the two of them........Ahhhhh.
The Mercedes Benz T80 LSR car, which never made a record attempt due to WWII, was conceived by Ferdinand Porsche and models were indeed tested in the wind tunnel, leading to the employment of mid-body wings for stability and downforce (imagine that, in 1939). So this car is about 16 years too late to be "the first".

I would like to see them take that over to the Indianapolis Speedway and get an Indy driver to drive it for a lap or two.
That would be FUN!
That is one angry little 4 banger! Would LOVE to see it really rippin.
@@loucostabile
Take it to El Mirage or Bonneville 😁
oh looks like speedracer's car crossed with a stingray corvett, but its got an offy, that classic growler monoblock engine that for 30 years knew no equal at one of the toughest races of endurance in the world. in the era of the watson roadsters, but this is soo differant yet has that tell tale rear like one but the front is like a sports car.

The Cummins Diesel Indy roadster was the first Indy car designed in a wind tunnel.

💥💥💥 toooo much 👍 🤣🤣🤣
:-)
Good Lord!
AMEN!
Lou,it's the most beautiful deathtrap I've ever seen.
Keith, ....what a way to go!
Looks like something Racer X would drive. Stupid Speed Racer could never figure out it was his brother Rex.
Hi TD, I can see why this one would like something Racer X would drive :-)
Trying to imagine what it’s like in a semi-closed environment with all that methanol exhaust circulating around.
Hi Peter, Hmmm, interesting thought, Lou
Looks like it was modeled after a 1930's Mercedes-Benz streamliner.
I can see why you'd say that.
Yellow car looks like the King Cobra ??
Thank you for sharing what you notice.....and you're right.
Didn't indy cars have outboard wheels at the time?
Yes.
I guess a race car doesn't have to race. Has this car done laps at any race track.? There are other cars as beautiful in that era and are proven. It is a nice looking trailer queen though. Back in 55 from what I saw race then would be 300S Maserati and 410 Ferrari.
Hi Robert, Since it's just restored, I'm not sure, I would not think so. Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Hi Pat, I'm real aware of "discrepancy issues" I'm married.......nevermind :-)
,,,..thank you,,,sir,...for replying ,,,this car is so futuristic,,,don't think they could build one even next year!!!, ha ha,...epic vid&story,..I only dream of seeing it in person,,,tnxx,,,pat & family,...land o' lakes,wi.,usa
Why is this treasure parked in the middle of the road?
It just came off the trailer.
Beautiful car, excellent restoration. World's worst haircut.
