    So I am stuck between vortext diamondback and vortext diamondback HD. There is a decent price jump for the HD version of diamondback. But how big of a differnece would it make?

    I picked up the Diamondback HD 10x42 in Strata camo pattern at Bass Pro Shops for $169.99 on Saturday. They are sale during the Fall Hunting Classic event, running till 8/30/23.
    Love these binoculars, huge upgrade over the Field & Stream and Bushnell that I've used in the past. Well worth the price.

    If you can find old Vortex Vipers made in Japan, they are the best binoculars Vortex has ever sold. They are highly collectible. The Japanese company (Kamakura Koki) that made them for Vortex now makes them for Tract Optics as the Toric binoculars.

    I have some Leupold Yosemite 8x30s and the clarity, color saturation, depth of field is way better than some of the cheaper brands like Tasco I have used in the past. Would the diamondbacks be a step up from the Leupold Yosemites or would I be better off with something like the Vortex Viper or Razor?

      You'll have to step up to at least the Viper HD bins. Porro prisms deliver an image quality that is spectacular in relation to their cost. I just picked up a NIB pair of Nikon 8x30 E II binoculars and the glass is outstanding. For $550, the image quality is on par with my Swarovski SLC bins and at a third of the cost. Granted they're not waterproof, fogproof, or shockproof. But the optical quality gives up nothing to my SLCs.

      How about any actual details in general? Already have razor bino's and looking to find a cheaper one for my kid. 3 and a half minutes into this review I stopped. All I got from this is a bunch of I "feel", "I heard", "I think" and "I that". This was less about an objective review and more of subjective merry go round of useless info.

    Well let me ask a very simple question.
    Were there any good binoculars out there before Vortex became a well known brand?
    Say maybe 20 years ago?

    • @highplainsdrifter9631
      @highplainsdrifter9631 6 месяцев назад +4

      Is that a serious question? The short answer is an astounding Yes. The Big 3 European brands: Leica, Swarovski, & Zeiss. Then you have the Japanese juggernaut Nikon. And then there's Meopta, a well known optics manufacturer in the Czech Republic that equals the quality of the Austrian & German optics brands. Leupold has always been viewed by me as more of a riflescope maker, but they also have made binoculars for a long time. So yes, there have been manufacturers building quality bins long before Vortex came to town. Find an old pair of Leitz binos or Zeiss Dialyts and you'll be happy. The Leitz/Leica Trinovids from the 1960s are very high quality glass.

      I personally prefer Leica & Zeiss to Swarovski. I have a pair of Swarovski 10x42mm SLC bins that I've had for a few years. Just picked up a pair of Leica Trinovid 8x32 HD binos for a smaller pair for travel and woods use. I will be selling the SLCs to make way for another larger pair of Leicas. My eye just prefers the image from Leica glass.
