I remember going to a Jazz Band Camp in 2019 and Melissa came to our university to do a Masterclass for our group. She explained her whole story about her experiences growing up with music and her perfect pitch, she also performed a transcription of one of Chris Potter's solos, I cannot remember which tune it was but the articulation and everything sounded completely identical and amazing! We had small jazz ensembles who we played with for the following Jazz Band Camp Concert and Melissa came to our room and played alongside with us on Herbie's "Maiden Voyage" and it was a one-of-a-kind experience. One of the stories our instructors told us when she came to the campus was that she immediately asked to use a practice room; she told us that she would practice about 6-8 hours every day.
Reminds me of attending NTSU in 1964 and hearing the One O'Clock Lab Band's Fall concert with Billy Harper, Lou Marini, Tim Bell ,Galin Jeter, Jim Riggs, John Monaghan, Ed Soph.. we were in high excitement...always love a Lab Band sound. And yes... Melissa is the living end.
Two of my favorite tenors soaring high!!! I'm so glad you had Melissa in this one, Chad. Always loved how she spoke through the saxophone. More power to you and to all in this big band!!!
Todos lindos maravilhosos, e a melissinha nossa representante da america latina uma senhora cosmopolitana! e logicamente o Chad grande aglitinador de talentos, e ele tambem é o maximo! saudaçoes do Brasil!
Waiting for Melissa's drop, every time, this virtuoso Sonny-inspired bridge from no-ther Brooklyn like no-other, ad-ap_to/in..Or? Waiting for Melissa...
I’m always conflicted over these kind of arrangements where the harmonic re-compostion is so thorough that it’s difficult to hear the original song. Like hearing Herbie Hancock on his ‘New Standards’ tour and feeling simultaneously happy yet kinda confused! Chad’s chops filled yang and Mellissa’s lyrical yin work well together!
@@MiqelDotCom I wouldn't say painful but kinda agree. Superb playing, but is almost a full new tune, that way i like it very much. But if you take the cheerfull caracter, the joy of living, the straight from heart simplicity of the inmortal original, i fell something is missing here. They play overwhelmly fine, even emotively sometimes, Melissa specially.. But, with Rollins' your feet, yor hips...they move by themselves. This one is really hard to dance, lol
Chad, look! Look! Look! God and His Angels are dancing in Heaven's 🙏 Kingdom. Yes! Wah'ow! The Devil cannot help himself; he too is dancing, his being intimidated by the Global Woodwind and Brasswind Onslaught of Chad with his Organic (Real) Jazzicians. How melodic, coherent and "orgasmic" Melissa can often be! Her altissimoes are impeccably precise and within melodic and harmonic context. What a storyteller is she! Is Chad endeavoring to eclipse John Coltrane, Sal Nestico, Bob Berg, Michael Brecker, Wilton Felder, Stanley Turrentine - RIP -, Ernie Watts, George Gorgone, Jerry Bergongzi (sp), James Carter, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman et al? What I do know is that Organic Real Jazz is 🔥 about one's being as explosively creative as possible. Chad concurs excellently with ferocious practicality: virile tone, clarity of thought, agility and expressiveness. Oh, I adore how he meaningfully contextualizes his overtone note-cluster! Shall we not attempt to enlist Camille Thurman, super tenor saxophonist and vocalist who is smooth and fluent in her use of Organic Jazz vocabulary, phrases and sentences? Is that a "yes"? Excelentissimo, videttes.
I feel like I am one of the only ones who just doesn't get this whole swooning thing over Melissa Aldana. Her playing sounds fundamental and forced. I just don't hear fluidity and fluency. Chad's mastery is more than obvious. Am I the only one who feels there is a bit of "Emperor's New Clothes" here? Sorry, but Chad seems to be carrying her. I downloaded an album or two of her stuff and all I heard was basic scale structures and what appeared to be more like simple etudes than melodic song structures. Forgive me if I am wrong or ignorant.

Hello Chad LB . I really want to feel it in your online band.
Would LOVE to see you in SF, but no tix listed for sale yet. Some day, until then, RUclips…
outstanding arrangement it breathes new life into standard
Man Melissa’s tone and control over the altissimo is absolutely wild
Sure is.Stars for that altissimo navigation.Shes definitely a presence on the sax scene.
saw her yesterday at a gig, still shocked by her skill level
@@thiesvb3971 Did you tell her to stop by & give me altissimo lessons??? Naw, I wouldn't be able to focus on SAX..
Melissa control and playing is amazing, so much work, Chad sounds for me a little bit more wild, and he dance a little bit more xddd
If I could have 1 ounce of Melissa's lyricism I would be a happy man. She's all finesse. It's insane!
Melissa looks like she’s gonna cry but sounds so good. Such emotional playing I love It.
Thats because her lyrical playing comes from deep emotions and invariably, it will show as she plays. Melissa is never a cold, technical player.
Yes
Chad’s sound from that period was just superb

Beautiful. Such beautiful solos. I love Melissa's playing.
Yeah!!! Sounds awesome - exactly what I was imagining when I wrote this. Congrats on a great project, and thanks for including me!
Melissa is so creative both rhythmical and harmonically.
I just cant understand how organic this sounds when you are all recording from home. This is amazing!

Two tenor titans!!

Melissa is amazing Chad💛
Melissa's clarity in that altissimo, my god
Two of my favorite tenors soaring high!!! I'm so glad you had Melissa in this one, Chad. Always loved how she spoke through the saxophone. More power to you and to all in this big band!!!

Muy muy grandes!!!!👍💪🎷
I get Maria Schneider Orchestra vibes from this arrangement.
1:29 elegant!
Amazing !
It's the Nexus vs. Mark VI comparison video we've all been waiting for! Personally, loving Chad's sound on the new horn and mouthpiece.
I think it’s more Melissa vs Chad :) you could swap the horns and they’d still sound like themselves
there is no Mark IV. it's a SBA.

I'm not conflicted at all, I think this arrangement is painful. (the players are all fantastic though!)

Personally I love the arrangement.
It just goes to prove that it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing!

Melissa Aldana y Lucia Sarmiento 🦋💜
Nice arrangement. Sounds like Melissa has listened to a lot of Seamus Blake (another great tenor player).
also Mark Turner
Melissa is the 3rd generation of superb Chilean tenor sax players.
