Psalm150 1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
Just saw Mr. Alexander w/John Clayton & Jeff Hamilton in Salt Lake City, got home and was hungry for more. There are no limits to this wonderful (and personable) man's abilities. Thank you for posting this! His gospel numbers had me ready to convert!
Everyone comes together when there is jazz to be played. So awesome to always have a smile on every beat. Love this version because it just is so happy to hear!
He may not play as deep in the keys as Bill Evans or with the virtuosity of Art Tatum or the powerful swing of Oscar Peterson, but Monty is the best pianist alive since the passing of Oscar. His technique, his clever interpolations of musical quotations, his penchant for surprise--rhythmically, harmonically, melodically, and perhaps above all his infectious, visceral pulse--that sense of "Swing" (the word itself, sadly, is disappearing from our language) is unequaled by any musician of the past 15-20 years. Finally, he's the leading custodian and ambassador for "The Great American Songbook" (Berlin, Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers, etc.) that, since Louis' first hits, has had a symbiotic relationship with the development of this art form. Jazz and the "classic" American Popular Song--two separate, unique, American art forms? ... or inseparable, mutually stimulating branches of the same great American music? You couldn't have one without the other. As Dylan recently said, jazz and its songs will outlive his own music for centuries to come.
I am in so. Cal. And I am lucky to receive radio waves from Long Beach State University. They run a Jazz fm station 24/7. I though I had heard it all through the years. But I keep discovering new thing then I look them up. If I am convinced they are you tube and g+ worthy, I re-share them with you.
Yes!! I always listen except on Salsa Sunday. Thursday Classics with Bio. are exceptional. Sometimes at night the actual performers show up and play and discuss some heavy bio.
Joseph Scriven who wrote this Hymn was buried in Ontario, Canada. His Spirit grooves with Monty whilst his remains turn over at the Grave due to Trudeau's illegal abuse of powers.

Monty is one of the most creative jazz pianists alive and has a terrific technique.
Excellent. I hear some Les McCann influence -- he is (the early playing) one of my favorite gospel-jazz players.
