I had a certain amount of respect for them, but I never really trusted them, and they gave me good reason not to with their own words. I tried not to get too attached. It was really uncomfortable after grinding rep with them for them to basically say they're standing by the Old Gods and will try to wipe everyone out when they feel the time is right. Um... yeah, let me buy that faction mount and gear then I'm going to have to stop coming over here anymore. They were nice enough to warn me though. Felt a lot worse about General Nazgrim though especially since I quested with him many times in Pandaria. As Saurfang said, hope that you never have to be in the position to have to choose between honor and loyalty.
I like the mantid dynamic with them telling you that theyre basically gonna be your enemies if the old gods return. Its like the epitome of honor, like soldiers realizing that theyre not so different from one another. But they still fight, because thats just how it is. They didnt kill each other because of hate, but because its the thing they have to do, and when they died they didnt feel hate towards the other side because they knew that that was the thing the others had to do. aka. theyre real ones, godspeed.
Should of shown the alliance side to saurfang. Varian at the time was a die hard horde hating machine, but had so much respect towards saurfang that he let him take his son's body and leave.
Being a horde destroying monster myself, even I respect saurfang. to be honest, he is one of my favorite wow characters. I can't wait to see what he will do in BFA.
Come now. He will do in BfA what the Horde always does: Pillage, burn, murder and destroy. Blizzard try their best to smooth over this and make the Horde likable enough for players to play, but at the end of the day, NOTHING has changed for the Horde since the day they stormed the Draenei lands and massacred any man, woman or child they found for their own debased desires. They chose the demon-loyal path, and even freed from it, continue on their path to kill anyone and everyone that will not stand with them.
Is the history of the Horde not an endless series of events where someone's land get pillaged, burned and destroyed, and the people murdered? Am I *WRONG* about that? Do the Horde *NOT* continue doing this long after the demonic influence - THAT THEY CHOSE TO TAKE PART IN - was no longer a factor? And if not, do explain how it's one-sided and hypocritical to point this out, and something that makes me a 'wrong' part of the Alliance - the very organization that was made for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of stopping the Horde? If you have nothing to counter my position with, you should not be making noises to that effect.

During WoTLK it's not Arthas, but Lich King, Arthas was killed inside Lich Kings mind, or rather his Soul was killed or something, there was a chapter about it in the Arthas book
@@RaelagDidEverythingRight Arthas was still in there somewhere, seeing that he kept Jaina's in his memory and also upon death asking his father if it is over.
I had killed Archavon probably 20 times before I found that journal of his... I really did feel pretty guilty. It's an interesting testament about what we considered "okay" or even "good" when we let available game mechanics dictate your actions. We see a boss with loot and come up with a reason why it has to be a bad guy, because surely you wouldn't be killing this thing only to steal from it. I mean look at those skulls on his boots!
Nazgrim came.. a loong way from grizzly hills.. i freakin loved Nazgrim and Taylors rivalry... i was so god damn sad to see it go and i bet Taylor was too.. despite being enemies they had the utmost respect for eachother. And personally being an orc warrior.. facing him, fighting him. it hit me right in the feels. I dare say if Saurfang had a good fan or student even if not official.. Nazgrim was that. I only wish to bring Nazgrim to peace once again.. He does not deserve to be desecrated this much, turned into a death knight...
Nazgrim's death hit me hard since I've always enjoyed the quests he'd given in the past and loved the fact that this NPC was with me for years across multiple alts. His resurrection as one of the four horsemen in Legion made me beam from ear to ear since I saw it as me getting to pal around with my old (dead) buddy again.
I would've like you to mention the sight of an alliance player with Saurfang's son. The King spoke to Saurfang and stopped his own men to let Saurfang pass to get to his now fully dead son, Saurfang even thanked him and Jaina cried, saying how nice the King is for ignoring the fact that the Horde and Alliance cant stand each other, and that he let Saurfang get his son's body in safety
I would have put Elisande on the list too, I always feel bad when she dies, gives her speech about having doubts and tries to help us, the players... KJ's death in Legion is somehow sad too, especially after hearing his conversation with Velen. Nice video though...
No, hes saying valuables. Hiru has admitted on many occasions that his reading and spelling arent the best. Its kind of a running thing that we just accept it.
Kael is the most screwd character in WOW, and you put him in last? He even turns a Crack Elf in the Sunwell. He was awesome in W3 but WoW has a thing for screwing good storylines.
maybe he was only on place 10 because everyone is used to him being "bad" at this point. i on the contrary am not known to get over things like these very easily. i am still mourning af
I didn't play a Horde character in TBC, but I imagine it would have come as quite a shock for new blood elf characters who heard everybody verbally praising Kael'thas to reach Outland and find out they would have to fight their prince.
Honorable mentions: - lost protectors of the vale; the 3 pandaren you worked with in the Golden Lotus faction, who were killed in the Sha explosion in the vale, yet linger on to experience the pain of their failure forever
Honorable mention to Naxxramas' Thaddius, who has been making players squirm since WotLK. I loved this. Not everyone takes time to break down the lore. You were clear and concise, and the audio bytes were a great touch. Awesome work!
The player-characters are often the villains for at least a chunk of several of WoW's expansions. The best example is Mists of Pandaria, where we go full colonialism on this pristine environment during the leveling zone, and spend much of the endgame trying to fix our mess (except the Krasarang Shore stuff; we were still ruining it then).
As an Alliance main and someone that primarily played during Wrath, I wish you had shown the Alliance version of the Saurfang story because it was pretty good for us too.
@@joheg8433 We'll still see about that though. Unhinged use of magic is undeniably drawing more and more out of the ley lines. I always did find some merit in Malygos' story, even if his method was not right. But with him abruptly stopped and no further precaution as to what continous magic can do the world, it still remains to be seen. (I bet it won't be though cause Blizz probs won't make that 'small but actually important detail' into a large plot point.)
Garrosh even had the balls to scold Sylvanas for her actions in Silverpine Forest, back in Cata. I really liked him back then. I stopped playing before Pandaria so i was actually disappointed to see him take a turn for the worse, although i wasn't so attached to him to really be upset (unlike with Kael'thas)
@@troodon1096 Sylvanas don't seem to care for the Horde anymore. It's one thing to take care of yourself as a person and seek your personnal goals, but it's another to do that while completely forgetting your role as a leader and letting your peoples behind as a consequence. Sylvanas should be above that but she's not, she don't give a shit. I'm for the Alliance all the way, but I feel bad for the Horbe because of how much it must suck to have such a self-centered, waste of a character and leader. The Alliance have Anduin, sure he make mistakes, he can be naïve at times, but it's normal, like he's young and all, he's still improving even tho he's already really good. Sylvanas don't have that excuse, she's shit just because.
Ngl I kina wish they had kept bits and peices from both factions canon with ICC Saurfang passing on a debt to Anduin for Varian allowing him to take his bod would have been nice tbh
epic subtitles made the whole video worth it. There's a ton of people doing WoW lists, though this one has a rather unique premise rather than just "best" or "worst" or "most interesting" or whatever, but those subtitles were comic gold. Subscribed for that reason alone.
The Horde deaths I always felt bad for. They were always people that just did what they truly believed what was right. The only Alliance that I actually felt sad for was Varian. Other than that the horde were always the ones I felt sad for.
Hey Hiru, i just wanted to point out that i normally find top 10 videos boring. But you are one of my favorite (wow) youtubers and do always such interesting stuff. Thats why every new video you make gets an instant like from me :)
You missed the saddest part about Varok Saurfang, he suffers from extreme PTSD. During his Blood Haze and the Slaughter of Shattrath he massacred over a dozen young Draenei children, their screams a sound he compares to that of a piglet put to the slaughter, it disturbs him so much so that he is actually a vegetarian and refuses to eat meat because he constantly relives the sound and images of those Draenei children. Just to stir some chocolate in his shit soup of a life he's one of the last people to talk to Cairne before his duel with Garrosh not to mention Saurfang was the final deciding vote that allowed Garrosh to survive his trial, yes Warlords happened because of Saurfang.
Evan W The part that also hits was when he said, when Garrosh said they'd have grown up to fight them(what an ass), was Varoks response of "I'm not solely speaking of the children of our enemies..."..which implies in the haze orc children may have been killed, too. Yikes.
I'm supposed to be sorry for him? _"He suffers from extreme PTSD" suddenly don't sound very sad when you continue with "...because he slaughtered dozens of Draenei children and their screams of terror and pain reminded him of the way Orcs prepare piglets, BY STICKING THEM IN THE FIRE WHILE STILL ALIVE, so now he can't even eat pork because it triggers him."_ And that was just the START of the long road of horrors this aging mass-murderer has visited on anyone unfortunate enough to be attacked by the Horde. Fuck this guy. He deserves to never sleep again, kept awake each night by the haunting screams of the people he made to suffer and die.
Terenin Meh, I can sympathize with him. He was under the blood curse like many other Orcs. Things like these have also happened in real human history as well, war is a nasty ordeal
I really expected Arthas to be on the list, for me at least, after reading the book, playing w3 and wotlk, it was tragic, he was always a bit arogant, but he was a young prince, that was actually a very realistic caracter personality. Considering that he was tricked by malganis and fell into lich king grasp was only because Uther did not trust him, he actually did all for his people and the ones around him abandoned him when he needed them the most, including Jaina who from the book you will learn that they were actually lovers.
@J Ygb Well he wanted to save his people. So when he killed everyone in Stratholme he knew that he either had to do it now (when they were no threat) or wait for them to turn and then he'd lose a lot more people. But making that decision probably made him feel so guilty and unworthy and with a stain so huge on his soul that he didn't feel what he did mattered anymore anyway. So he continued making bad decisions. After he picked up Frostmourne he was basically mind-controlled. There was only a small bit of him left and that bit was the reason the scourge didn't overrun everything. And he kept Jaina's locket indicating that the small part of him that was left was driven solely by love (maybe just for Jaina but probably also still for his people). He was arrogant and cocky but he was also dutiful and responsible. Raised to be a king who would have to make dificult decisions. It is tragic that fate tossed him that lot.
I knew from the begining that Saurfang was going to be in the 1st place. My god, the first time I killed his son, it broke my heart when I saw him collecting his body and saying those words: "You will have a proper ceremony in Nagrand next to the pyres of your mother and ancestors" Felt so sad :'(
I have a strange video idea. 10 weird things that one shot you. Not like just raid bosses, just strange things in the game that for some reason 1 shot.
The Howling Forge But mostly Jaina. She was so pure, tried to bring piece within the alliance and the horde, etc. And one by one everything went wrong in her life
So. You feel bad about Saurfang, but not about Arthas. Saurfang is a deathknight - undead- , who wants to turn you into undead too. He died fighting the enemy. Yeah, Arthas didn't die, but his mind was under controll and his soul was taken.
No Malygos? Really? I mean, yeah, he was reduced to a T1 boss in WotLK but honestly, his story is more tragic and sorry than Saurfang's, IMO. He was just doing his job.
You are responding to a video done by an obvious Hordeling. 2/10 entries are Horde characters that half the game don't give a single fuck about, but are on the list anyway.
Insane dragon who wants to kill all mortal mages? You do reallise vast majority of blue dragonflight were wiped, and his story is actually kind of similar to Kael's?
I always loved the Alliance side of the Saurfang battle. Muradin's heavy heart when he says he can't let Saurfang pass, and Varian coming in to order Muradin to let him pass...That was the close to the height of storytelling in the game, and it was really touching to see people who were supposed to be enemies showing respect for each other. And then BFA comes and the factions fight each other again for literally no reason, when they should both be saying "Hey, our planet is on the verge of death and countless numbers of our people were just killed by the Legion...let's end the bloodshed." But nah, VIDEO GAMEZZZZ! GOTTA HAVE VIOLENCE AND MURDER LAWL FUCK CHARACTER PROGRESSION FUCK LOGIC FUCK STORYTELLING LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWL
Actually, in lore the legion is dead in Bfa and they started a fight over Loeradon in fact, nobody likes the forsaken anywhere so it was promoted by blizzard that we were going to have conflict
I actually think, that as soon there is peace between these two factions, WoW as a mmo will end. That could be where this all is going, actually. Next they will make the players fight and defeat the void lords, over how ever many expansions it will take, but I think peace will be the last thing happening in WoW, before it will end as a game.
I really felt bad about Nazgrim...I know many might disagree but I love MoP. And Nazgrim pretty much stood at your side through a big part of questing. He just died as an honorable orc and doesn’t betray his leader.
Wheres arthus, having played him in warcraft 3 and seeing him fall into the madness of wiping the scourge and instead becoming part of them, his story is pretty sad. hope you include him in a part 2 if u decide to make one
We only know anything about her outside the dungeon journal from the now unavailable weekly quest to "save" her soul that was given by Valithria. We get to know Blood Queen Lanathel more than Sindragosa because of the Queldalar chain..
talking about the actual fight. if anything muru should feel sorry for us. i know the lore and he was definitely abused but i still doubt anyone felt anything anymore after finally downing him.
henri knutsson except gameplay difficulty (and whatever frustration you may have felt at the time) has no relevance due to the fact this list is about lore. Somebody could very well make the argument that they didn't feel bad for Vaelestrasz since he was such a frustrating fight (in fact as an NPC, he was responsible for the 2nd highest number of PC fatalities during Vanilla). Yet Vaelestrasz is on this list.
I was always a horde main, but when I raided SoO I switched to alliance to play with some friends. It made the Nazgrim fight sting a little extra. I felt like such a traitor.
I was looking for this comment, Arthas gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect azeroth and doomed himself in life and even after his "death" as lich king. If it were not for him, all of azeroth would have been annihilated by the scourge.
Mr. [Bones] MoP dinosaur raids was the best time in the game hands down. Armored dinosaurs and shit, plus the secret island that dropped the dino pets that sold for thousands of gold in the ah.. goooood times making huge 40man groups to kill the super rex boss on the island
Even though I havent played a single World of Warcraft except warcraft 3 only I just got chills while watching this which explains how great the expansions are and how emotional we get by all of it.
exeterra probably because her death wasn't "HOLY SHIT I CAN'T WITH THIS FIGHT" her fight was incredibly boring and quick, it was the cinematic that made it sad.

I always thought Kael siding with the Legion was due to him drawing too much magic from demons and the Nether, which were tainted with fel and which he and his followers became addicted to. I felt that was fairly well explained. 🤷

Out of all the bosses I feel bad for. Archavon & Nazgrim... Feels bad man. Grim did an amazing job holy gods on that cinematic.

Love you too friend.
Well well. That's pretty one sided hypocrtic point of view
Terenin you sir represent everything wrong with the alliance. So called good guys to make em likeable
Archavon's been watching for 5,878 years.

I mean look at those skulls on his boots!
by how the archive is written it is cannon that he revives after he is killed only to be killed again a little time after that is the truly sad thing.
I killed Archavon tens of times before noticing the journal. The journal made me feel like an asshole for certain.
sirflimflam why would we feel bad for killing him if he just comes back.
Aw I wish I could just go up to him and chat with him for a little bit. Keep him some company. Poor thing.
By reading the journal you can see that "dying" for him is the norm, for him they're only taking his toys and not hurting him in any major way.
BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO: NAZGRIM
As a player who played both horde and alliance, killing him broke my heart... *twice*
And after few months later, they killed Admiral Taylor too.
Nazgrim was also the first on my mind :(
Nazgrim came.. a loong way from grizzly hills.. i freakin loved Nazgrim and Taylors rivalry... i was so god damn sad to see it go and i bet Taylor was too.. despite being enemies they had the utmost respect for eachother.
Yes
and now he's a death knight. A good touch from blizzard.
Of course. I always felt the action of velen like he saying: its all over, brother. Now take rest
Baubles! Archavon says "baubles" not "valuables"!
I think he's just pronouncing it "bal-uables" instead of "baw-bles"
No, hes saying valuables. Hiru has admitted on many occasions that his reading and spelling arent the best. Its kind of a running thing that we just accept it.
OK, cheers dude
Either way that would still be super wrong
Baubles and valuables mean basically the same thing.
Nazgrim for sure. But as a DK, I felt really happy to see him raised as a DK and put in our Order Hall.
@Deathcoldan wrong. Dk stays locked in undeath, they can't go neither to hell nor paradise

It’s because of the mount he drops
Hahaha it messes up every storyline even the bad ones somehow.
I didn't play a Horde character in TBC, but I imagine it would have come as quite a shock for new blood elf characters who heard everybody verbally praising Kael'thas to reach Outland and find out they would have to fight their prince.

I always thought the fight with Y'sera was incredibly tragic.
As an Alliance main and someone that primarily played during Wrath, I wish you had shown the Alliance version of the Saurfang story because it was pretty good for us too.

@@troodon1096 Sylvanas don't seem to care for the Horde anymore.

Explain him in the horde Feast with plenty of meat xD
He doesn't eat pork because of the slaughtering, but he does eat other kinds of meat
_"He suffers from extreme PTSD" suddenly don't sound very sad when you continue with "...because he slaughtered dozens of Draenei children and their screams of terror and pain reminded him of the way Orcs prepare piglets, BY STICKING THEM IN THE FIRE WHILE STILL ALIVE, so now he can't even eat pork because it triggers him."_
And that was just the START of the long road of horrors this aging mass-murderer has visited on anyone unfortunate enough to be attacked by the Horde.
Honestly, for me, none of these felt as bad as killing Arthas. We end his torment only to give him more in his afterlife.
At least Arthas is no longer evil plus I imagine he'll play some sort of role in Shadowlands where he'll hopefully for freed from his torment at last.

There are years of hatred and grudges that cant be erased so easily. Not even time in panda land stopped it.

Not sure for Illidan, he's an ultimate edgelord, so kicking his ass was more satisfying than anything.

Caius Juvonen u would be annoyed too if u had been abandoned by the Aspects and left to die

Another tragic boss: M'uru/Entropius. M'uru was a victim of the Blood Elves draining the Naaru's light energy.
i'm pretty sure no one felt sorry for him after finally downing him.
henri knutsson are you talking from a gameplay (fight difficulty) PoV or an *actual* lore PoV?
talking about the actual fight. if anything muru should feel sorry for us. i know the lore and he was definitely abused but i still doubt anyone felt anything anymore after finally downing him.
I am pretty sure M'uru/Entropius was way too much of a pain in the ass to kill for anyone to feel sorry about him lorewise after they killed him
henri knutsson except gameplay difficulty (and whatever frustration you may have felt at the time) has no relevance due to the fact this list is about lore.
Somebody could very well make the argument that they didn't feel bad for Vaelestrasz since he was such a frustrating fight (in fact as an NPC, he was responsible for the 2nd highest number of PC fatalities during Vanilla). Yet Vaelestrasz is on this list.
*"MY PEOPLE HAVE SUFFERED SO LONG" "IF ONLY I COULD SHOW THEM MORE OF THEIR BURDEN"*

He did it on himself, and the "Culling" was just awful.
I was looking for this comment, Arthas gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect azeroth and doomed himself in life and even after his "death" as lich king. If it were not for him, all of azeroth would have been annihilated by the scourge.
