Hi friends, sorry I'm like 2 months late, moving made me literally forget I ever recorded this but hEY AT LEAST I GOT IT UP! Heartstopper Season 2 was p good, had some strong thoughts about it after learning more about Alice Oseman, but hey it's just my opinion it's totally ok to disagree EXCEPT FOR THAT BL PART! Let me know your thoughts, and what other shows I should review and do not say Summer I Turned Pretty because I'll literally trash that entire show for 40 min straight.

They bodyshamed Kit because they thought he wasn't as build as Nick and after season 2, they now bodyshame Joe for not being thin enough to play someone suffering from an ED to the point they keep on harassing him, Alice and Patrick by demanding a recast. As if anyone could play Charlie better than him. They disgust me to no end.

personally i can relate to Isaac’s character as an asexual myself. so many people would tell me that i need a partner to be happy. i’m not quite sure if Isaac is supposed to be aro/ace or just ace but i really think he deserves more screen time and i’m excited to see what they do about his character in the future.

I think it was hinted in the show that he's aro as well from his monologue with James saying he might not be able to find (romantic) love
YES totally agree i relate to his journey so so much - the not knowing what he feels? perfect.
the vibe i get from isaac is that he feels a strong connection to james and feels pressured to like him romantically. maybe he even believes he does at first, but his journey is about realizing that his feelings are platonic and that he's not any less of a person for not feeling romantic feelings. and it's such an important story to see!
I don't understand the whole "everybody is queer, so it's unrealistic" argument. We're literally hyper focusing on a queer group of friends/people, from a school of what? hundreds? literally from hundreds of people a good chunk of them will be/are queer.
plus i've noticed queer people tend to gravitate towards queer people. i'm 21 now, and my closest friends right now are queer people i met between 12-15, and none of us were out at that time and came out on our own schedules later

this is exactly it! there really isn't THAT many queer people in the show, like 5 people in either school. If that's all the queer people they have, that's not a lot at all. People are so used to seeing straight main characters with queer side characters that the opposite seems crazy, even though that's so many people's reality
The “everyone is gay” being unrealistic is not accurate in my experience. I’m my British high school most people are homophobic or take the piss but there is a significant amount of queer people and they all bad together and hang out. It’s not that there’s loads of queer kids it’s just that the all travel in a pack because everyone else are arse holes. In the show they clearly show the school is mostly bigoted. It’s not that the school is 95% gay it’s that Charlie’s friend group is 95% gay and they also make up nearly the whole queer population in the school.

charlie’s eating disorder is alluded to in season one too, he doesn’t get popcorn at the theater and tori offers him food in the last episode and he denies it
he also stares at his cereal in one of the episodes and also doesn’t eat at the theater tho tao and issac were shown eating
20:29 as an aroace who barely ever crys issac’s story made me cry. It made me feel so seen and the representation was so accurate of the aroace experience. Being surrounded by romance and feeling suffocated, your friends trying to get you to date someone, and everything about his storyline was so accurate i love issac and i think his representation could help a bunch of people find their identity and is the first step in there actually being aroace rep in media which makes me so happy

okay, you asked it so I'll give it to you hehe:
as an aroace person, it was incredibly nice to see issac's storyline of him discovering his identity. but he definitely needed more screen time and more flushed-out story in general but anything is better that nothing, still. I just hope we get more of him in season 3 and in general - have more diverse and complex characters on the aro and ace spectrums.
I personally still think that the best ace representation I've seen in my life was cash from heartbreak high simply because it was refreshing to see an ace queer man and a non-binary gay person figure out their relationship and etc.
knowing alice is aroace (i believe, they might be alloace?) i have a lot of hope for isaac's story in season 3. it really feels like what we've seen so far was just an introduction and there's much more to come.
Arguably, the "everyone is gay" while the whole rest of both schools seems to be homophobic is actually realistic/ acurate, because queer people seem to gravitate towards eachother and surround ourselves with other queer people, so in our own little bubbles (or from the perspective of charlies friendship group) it feels like everyones gay, when really most people in their schools aren't
I also really appreciate Isaac's ace storyline, he was already a relatable character to me and then him finding out he's aroace was really cool. I understand wanting him to have more screen time but he is a very quiet person as well as a side character so it kinda makes sense for him to not have as much screen time
I like that Issac got his Asexual Storyline and as an Asexual person and kinda I wish I came out as Ace in high school and had that experience but I'm glad I still came out when I was relatively young, like I come out my first year of college. My thoughts on his storyline is that I wish that he had more scenes of his friends comforting him and telling him that he is still valid and still in their friend group even if he doesn't share the same desires as them and it is cool to see more aroace or ace story lines that aren't rooted heteronormativity because most of the storylines are about women when we do get it about men it tends to be just straight men that just don't like sex which is fine I think that Heteroromatic people do have a spot in the LGBTQ+ community its just the people who are usually writing them tend to lean to more heteronormative angle.
There's a Tudum article that says that B*n isn't coming back in season 3. In the books, he isn't seen after when season 1 is set but Alice wanted to include him in season 2 so that the part of the story that involves him is more fleshed out and resolved.

I remember his eating disorder was seen even in season 1, when nick and Charlie go to the movies nick offers Charlie popcorn and Charlie replies with “im not very hungry right now”
And Charlie never eats his lunch or his cereal bowl in season 1, too. And he denied Tori's offer of making pizza after their raw emotional scene with Charlie crying over the drums.
Also after he broke up with Ben, he's in the kitchen stirring but not eating his cornflakes, he opens aNd closes his lunch box in the art room. He doesn't eat chips at the bowling alley even though Nick and Tao are seen eating. It's not so noticeable because as the viewer, we never really question when an actor is not actually eating.

The fans being the driving force of a lot of the hate the casts gets is just mind blowing. They do love the show and yet do exactly the same behavior? Forcing Kit out, bullying Joe non stop to the point of tagging Alice, Patrick on Twitter and Joe himself (on IG, Tiktok) about demanding a recast. Insane. Sad. Disgusting.
As someone who read the comics and already knew about the eating disorder, I caught the foreshadowing since the very first episode in season 1 when he wouldn't finish his bowl of cereal. I don't know what those girls were watching

As someone who used to think they were bi for about 4 years, (im a lesbian btw), the whole "Nick doesn't have to say hes bi every two seconds" argument KILLS ME. Mainly because, like you stated, that's one of the most frustrating parts of being bi, in my opinion. Everytime I said it, it was always about MEN and how I was required to prefer another side more because I was just "confused." So, personally, thank you for explaining that so well Frederic, because biphobia is such a toxic, frustrating thing, and I don't think it's talked about enough.
OKAY aroace person reporting for duty- i absolutely love issac, his portrayal of finding out you're aro and/or ace is by far the most gut-wrenching representation i've ever seen for this topic (which doesn't exactly have a high bar) but he absolutely kills it, which honestly makes sense considering alice is aroace as well, but yeah he's awesome. this might just be a personal nitpick but i hate how in episode 7 he snaps at his friends and then it immediately transitions to everyone happy at lambert like nothing ever happened, they might expand on it more, like issac explaining to his friends why that happened once he learns more about being aroace, but idk it just hurt. maybe its to drive that feeling of being invisible and alone even in the lgbtq+ community and never really understood by anyone in terms of sexuality even further across? on the bright side however, there's a lot suggesting that they'll expand more on his journey in s3, or at least i really hope they do because if they don't and just leave it at that i'm going to start a riot

As someone who’s bi and aro/ace, I liked how they explored Issac’s character a little bit more in the show. The scene where he kissed the boy but wasn’t sure how to react, with the boy saying “Maybe you just haven’t found the right person yet” hit me HARD. So many times, aro/ace people have been told to just “wait for the right person,” when it’s not as simple as that.

Lgbtq+ people wanted a pure, sweet story with two boys in love. And when they got it, they suddenly became bitter. Ffs. How about, I don't know, just enjoying it for what it is?
Also, Nick having to correct people about his bi-ness is the most relatable thing ever and the fact this season was DILIGENT to include this happening multiple times is such an amazing move. We, as bi men are constantly being invalidated by the straights AND by the fellow queer people. I love this being brought up in Heartstopper, and I especially love how assured of himself Nick is. Like, "no, maam, you are not going to walk over me, thank you very much". Whoever dismisses this, truly never lived through the bi experience.

"not everyone can be gay" Once in highschool I had a friend group of around 6 or 7 people and two were out as bi. When someone else came out in the group she said "I guess theres 3 of us now" and ANOTHER person came out right after. So eventually one friend said "Ok everyone whos lgbt raise their hand" Only one person didn't raise their hand. Raising my hand there was the first time I came out to them. I guess we just kind of find each other even when we aren't out

When nick always says “im bi actually” I relate too much the amount of times I’ve had to remind friends that I’m bi since a lot of them are lesbians or are dating girls and tbh it’s feels uncomfortable to even mention a guy I like or anything so I just don’t 🥲

Okay, now to Ace things cuz I'm demi: as someone who is also ace (im not aro tho), I think a lot of aroace people go through the struggle of not knowing if their platonic feelings are romantic, or if their aesthetic attraction is sexual attraction. It's a constant struggle of "Do i think they're pretty or am I sexually attracted. So relatable. Also Alice themselves are aroace so she is basing it on her experience, at least partially. Do I wish he had more screen time? 100%! Am I happy with all his journey so far and do I have hope for the future of his character? Also yes. All the characters outside nick and Charlie got more development than in season one, so I think his aroace-ness will be explored more in season 3.
The girls complaining about the lack of ED talk I think are coming from a place of “Up to date with the comic” because the last big arc was all about that. And the show was just the start of that story line so it’s like… Ladies, they’re gonna get there. In the comic the ED story line didn’t happen until after Paris calm down lol
I'm aroace and I loved Isaac's storyline! I do wish he had more screen time with it but I feel like there were too many things happening in s2 to really give it the time it deserved. It didn't feel like a one episode thing that wasn't otherwise mentioned because I could see all the little moments of realisation and Isaac trying to figure things out that a lot of people may not have noticed if they didn't know he was aroace. For example, the scene on the bus when Isaac asks Charlie how he knew he liked Nick. This could come across as Isaac thinking about if he liked James, but through an aroace lens it was him not really being sure what romantic attraction is and if that's what he's feeling. I don't mind Isaac being quiet and not having a ton of lines because that's very relatable to me, I'm also the quiet friend who just likes to sit and listen and keep to myself and is aroace :)

As someone who is ace, Isaac’s story means so much to me. Even though the discussion of it was mostly in one episode there were small hints and moments in almost every episode. Every time Isaac was just looking at all his friends coupled up or asking Charlie how it felt to have a crush, I started to tear up. Before heartstopper, I’ve never seen a canon ace character before and I didn’t realize how much it would effect me to see someone going through the same things I did. When James kisses Isaac and Isaac runs away and cries, that broke me. Though the transition to him accepting it seemed a little fast, I have full faith in Alice. Plus it is an 8 episode season based off a comic book where he wasn’t an original character, so I knew it was unlikely that he would have a huge part in the season
stop because im so scared for s3 because i dont want to see charlies struggles in depth (its gonna be so sad 😭) but ik nick and charlie will get through it fr ❤️
It wasn’t perfect, but them using ‘crush culture’ AND ‘people watching’ for Isaac’s story absolutely destroyed me

definitely needed more episodes for the second season given the popularity of the first season.
The show is really important as it's something that pre and young teens can watch with their parents, family, etc... that shows queer folk as just normal people trying to go through life. Also it's just a good watch, and for folks in the UK who lived through the era of Section 28, which was a "don't say gay" bill in the UK through the nineties and early 2000s which banned all teaching and expression of gender and sexuality that wasn't cis and straight.
It's also nice to have something that's British and relatable to a UK experience.
Also I recon a lot of folks went "oh, maybe that's a bit like me" and started a whole chain of questioning and investigation.
Also I like how it's kind of a training guide for good relationship and behaviours.
Please do red white and royal blue, I have a lot of mixed feelings on it as someone who’s not a huge romance person… I don’t know why I decided to watch it. I just knew that it was popular. And I like the movie, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it because you always have such cool, and interesting insight’s ESPECIALLY with queer media

I dont know what people are on about but this show is awesome and i just finished watching it 2 days ago. Yes the episodes are short and the storyline is not fully providing i agree with the giving context on Charlie's bullying and past at school. You know what i like the most about this show? The gay arab representation with the teacher Yousif. As a bi arab i appreciate that. And while watching this whole show i was like "how and where the heck does Nick mention he's bi a lot in a bad way?" Like idk if i'm being bi-ast see what i did there ok anywyas, as a bi person, i stand with all those times he had to clarify. They were a perfect amount not a lot and are on the right timing and all. I'm sick and tired of people doing that "u just straight stop being different" or "you gay stop trying to hide that" like come on bro. I love all the points discussed in this vid

I felt so naive when Charlie didn't forgive him, because I would totally forgive him, I should work on that
i am in high school currently, and i am in the queer friend group. like i purposefully surround myself with queer people, and i believe this is the kind of friend group shown in the show. yeah, 90% of the characters are queer. but within the school that's still just as few as expected. the 'everyone is queer' argument just doesn't make sense to me

the one thing i wholeheartedly disagree with is wanting to see the bullying in the past depicted. some reasons why i absolutely do not:
- it would invite people to have opinions of "well that's not so bad, he shouldn't be impacted by that." in my experience with any victimisations (hope that's the appropriate term here) people seem to feel entitled to dissect and victimblame. someone experiencing bullying would probably be very negatively impacted by witnessing that.
- in my opinion, the experience of getting bullied is a bit hard to capture, more like a lingering taste of the air rather than about one particular happenstance. anything but the blurry conglomerate of those animated grinning bullies would feel kinda... mundane, i guess. i'd say it's also the prolonged and continued experiencing and amalgamation of such things which creates cptsd.
- if depicted on screen any more explicitly than it already has, that would fall under the category of media indulging queer trauma. something which so far heartstopper has found such a great way around. it's really something that i appreciate so much about it: it doesn't shy away from darkness and bad experiences etc. (i don't see how people can still say that the show is too positive or happy, when there are so many mature themes being addressed??) but it shows the way the impacted characters feel/felt it (e.g. with some of the animations), how they process it and what *they* want to share about it. it stands firmly with the victims' points of view, probably/hopefully doesn't trigger the audience that relates, and yeah. i love that and i personally think this is how it should be. :)
(disclaimer tho: while i have cptsd and have experienced some... stuff, i'm very lucky to not have been the victim of school bullying myself, so if others disagree or have corrections, i'm very open to that!)

i actually have a LOT to say about The Summer I Turned Pretty and how they made Jeremiah bisexual & how bad that decision actually was in the long run. (i am bisexual btw) there’s storylines that happen in book 3 that make this decision SUPER biphobic. like they could’ve chosen literally ANY other character to do this with. I don’t wanna spoil it for those who’ve only seen the show but i have so much to say and I know when season 3 comes out it’s going to be CHAOS & us bisexual people will be in the trenches defending our sexuality against what they portray in this show…
ALSO CUS HE WAS STRAIGHT IN THE BOOKS! So Jenny Han knew his character did these things and acted this way before making the show and STILL chose to make HIM the bisexual one. (there’s also a lot of other problematic things in the books like using the r slur)
LEGIT, I hope that they change that in the next season (also because it was just lazy writing)

This child doesn't understand how the world works so when they see one of their friends with an abusive parents they create all of these fantasies in their head about why. They also want to run away with that friend and make them happy. So it's not exactly about someone being closeted but that would be a possibility.

i've been struggling to come to terms about my aromantic identity for quite a while now. while i was watching the show, i didn't really relate to isaac that much, but thinking back on it.....oh shit. he is so me
i love romance. i love reading about it, i love having crushes, i love love! i even have a girlfriend. but......romance just feels so weird to me. scary. foreign. my relationship is a bit hard to explain -- i love my girlfriend, but is it romantic? not exactly. i know allos will not understand that at all, but that's just how it is for us! we love each other, but im also aromantic and have no idea how romance is supposed to work.
Personal I know the show is not as good as other show,but as a ace it is one of my top shows because of Issac. I love how they show how he finds out he is aro/ace cause most shows I see the ace character is already ace and knows who they are straight away or just straight up don't exist. So yeah, that's my opinion as an ace on Issac

If someone doesn't like romance then I guess I can see why they would cringe at this show, but as someone who loves romance I did not cringe a single time and I would have had no idea that anyone thought it was cringy at all if not for the internet (and I am an adult not a teenager). And to say the acting is bad is WILD, the actors in Heartstopper are incredible, especially Joe Locke and Kit Connor.
Some actors are wonderful. And I love this show, but some of the scenes just didn’t feel natural for me. Most of the main characters were really well played, but some just weren’t convincing
