I love that when Ben starts talking to Charlie at the restaurant, right before Imogen calls him out, Nick starts to get up from his chair. Nick’s instinct was to protect Charlie - just like it was Charlie’s instinct to protect Nick at the bonfire when Harry was harassing him.
Nick tries, but quite frequently he lets Charlie swing in the wind while he’s too uncomfortable to stand up and do something. He just sits there when Harry mocks Charlie for the hickie, for example… when he was partly responsible for giving it to Charlie. He also did nothing when Charlie got hurt in the rugby game, and in most of Harry’s bullying of Tao and Charlie, he immediately shuts down if Harry directs his bs to him. I understand that Nick is struggling to come out and he shouldn’t feel pressured to do so, but everyone knows he is ‘best mates’ with Charlie and it wouldn’t seem weird for him to stand up and protect him. Charlie is actually much stronger than Nick at this point in their relationship. He’s willing to sacrifice almost anything, his friendships, his grades, even his own safety when he tells Harry to piss off, to protect Nick.
@@graphiquejack I can see your point, but keep in mind that navigating all of this is new for Nick, and he’s clearly not yet fully comfortable. It has been only 4-5 months by the end of season 2 after all. I think what’s often overlooked is Nick’s anxiety, and the stress of all of this on him. His breakdown at the bonfire was clearly a panic attack brought on by severe anxiety. I think the 2 boys are strong in different ways. Nick is the ‘feeler’ in the relationship, which sometimes gets in the way of action. Charlie on the other hand suppresses his feelings, but he is more about action. I’m amazed at how strong Alice wrote the character of Charlie, not to mention Joe’s ability to bring it to life, while he is struggling with severe mental health issues.
Tao awkwardly giving Elle the apple juice and watching if she drinks it, only to then immediately turn away when she looks at him always kills me like boyyyyyy you’re killing me but also I’m giggling so hard
The Paris trip was all that! I hate to tell you, but Darcy’s reaction to the Mona Lisa is 100% on point. It’s so tiny and blah. The other paintings in the room with the Mona Lisa are huge and brilliant and fabulous. And then there’s the Mona Lisa looking like a postage stamp hanging on the wall.
Why does the size matter? Out of curiosity. I've never been to Paris (or Europe, though I'd like to go someday), so I've obviously never seen it in person. Is it really so underwhelming?
Harry is making a big redemption sometime in this series. He is taking Issac defending his friends without defending himself. He is just laying down and listening. He defends Nick and Charlie. He apologizes and still accepts the door being slammed in his face. I love how gradual this change is. Ben symbolizes how some din’t need redemption and Harry (if they keep this up) show that some people can change if they want to. His actions are showing his change not just lip service.
