He returned at the outbreak of WW2 in 1939, then in 1951 when his brother, King George VI, was ill and had surgery to remove a lung. And then again for the King's funeral in Feb 1952. And then again the following year when his mother Queen Mary died, for her funeral. In 1965 he returned for the funeral of his sister Mary, the Princess Royal and Lady Harewood. In 1967 he returned for a ceremony celebrating the centenary of his mother's birth and the last time he returned was in 1968 for the funeral of Marina, Duchess of Kent.

      It is not well researched, it is the govt cover up story. Documents in Bahamas, Spain, Portugal, show the Duke wrote to the Germans in German code telling them to bomb London and he was ready to do anything to return to his throne, that he gave copies of his scouting reports of the French military defenses to the Germans. The rumors are true and he was not an innocent dupe. He also was involved in dirty money schemes with crime bosses.

    • @marylut6077
      @marylut6077 Год назад

      @taluta, if you think the Duke deserves a tribute, read The Traitor King by Lownie. Little was available in England archives, so Lownie researched copies of documents archived in Bahamas and Europe that England had destroyed. He set out to answer whether the Duke was an innocent dupe or purposely aiding and abetting the enemy. The Duke was 14/16 German, spoke German, was anti-Semitic. The documents and letters show how the Duke was dealing in dirty money with known crime bosses, giving copies of his reports about French defensive weaknesses to people he knew should not have the information, writing to the Germans suggesting they heavily bomb London, meeting secretly with German officials, writing to the Germans that he was ready to do what it took for them to help him regain his throne. The Royal Family told a love story tale to the world that we all believed but his father and his brother and the PM didn’t trust the Duke to put England’s interests above his own ambitions and pro-German proclivity, and they had his phones wiretapped and never released documents that showed his acts of betrayal or what a crook he was.

    • @marylut6077
      @marylut6077 Год назад

      Edward and 1 interviewee says the Duke never cooperated with the Nazi’s, but truth is letters were found written by the Duke to the Germans using German code - and the Germans weren’t giving their code to their enemies. England broke the code, so does that mean the Duke got the code from the British govt - nope, they didn’t want the Germans to know the code was broken so they certainly wouldn’t want a member of the Royal Family using the code, would they?

Prince Charles has been divorced and he remarried a divorced English woman and he will be King. Also, Harry and Meghan have much in common. When they met, they discovered that they share a passion for lifting up those in need-Harry through the Invictus games for military veterans who are disabled and Meghan in her work to support women’s reproductive rights. Also, they have two beautiful children and by all accounts a happy marriage. Harry has said openly that he and Meghan were both suffering with the British press publishing racist stories about Meghan. Also when Meghan was pregnant with Archie, she became very depressed, suicidal even (as can happen both during and after a pregnancy). When she went through the proper channels at the Palace to ask for professional help, she was told that there was no help for her because it would reflect badly on the Royal Family for her to have a mental health problem in need of treatment. Harry has made mental health awareness one of his causes because he knows that people often suffer needlessly when help is available.

    I worked in Paris in 1972 when HM The Queen paid an official visit, indeed I waved her car as it drove along the Champs Elysee and I recall the day The Queen went to see her Uncle...The Duke of Windsor, little was said about the visit...and the details explained here though sad...must have given HM some comfort. having the chance to say her farewells so close to the end of his life. I'm not sure what HM's feelings towards her Uncle were...a unique relationship to be sure.
    I'd like to think, HM's feelings towards her "uncle" were a little softer than were lead to believe, those of her parents were.

Imo it was such a good thing for Elizabeth to see him at that point, and then the fact that he acted in the manner he did... To me it speaks of reconciliation and washed away years of bitterness for him! Merely a few days later he passed with perhaps a mended heart. God bless the Queen for doing that!

I think it has been a very open discussion on a very high profile couple and please allow them to rest in peace.
    Well done Edward

      @drdebo Cherry, sorry to burst your bubble, it is heartfelt because Edward doesn’t know but is very dishonest account and govt coverup. Evidence of his betrayal does exist in Bahamas, Spain, Portugal. He wrote to the Germans using German code, he wrote they should bomb London, he wrote he was ready to do whatever it took to regain his throne, he gave them his military scouting reports on the weaknesses in the French defenses. Watch RUclips videos of Lownie, author of The Traitor King, talking about the documents that didn’t exist in England but were available in countries where the Duke went.

      If you think Edward was a talented documentary maker you are very naive! This is a whitewash of the abdication story - not surprisingly, Edward reveals nothing of the dark truth about Edward's Nazi sympathies and treachery during WW2. Now that would have been a documentary worth making! But namby pamby Prince Edward just continues the royal cover up of the ugly facts. No wonder he gave up his pseudo career in television and returned to his pampered life as a minor royal. He has no particular talent but self indulgence - just like his great Uncle Edward!

    I’ve watched several docos and read a lot about the abdication, and applaud this well balanced treatment, which includes previously unknown (to me) information. Sadly I had some problems with the sound and couldn’t access closed captions. Absolutely agree he was not a traitor, just a very spoilt,immature man who made some bad decisions. Sadly he paid a high price for his choice as he was largely ostracised by his family, in particular his brother the king, and his closest brother The Duke of Kent. It devastated his mother Queen Mary, it’s easy to criticise her parenting skills but she was a product of her time and position. Prince Edward has carefully avoided his Grandmother, the Queen Mothers unforgiving attitude towards the Windsors. There was no love lost there, the D of W reputedly referred to her as “Cookie” . The Queen Mother always blamed her husbands early death on the stresses of kingship, seemingly overlooking his heavy smoking habit and lack of self care. . All that said, how fortuitous these events allowed the long and glorious reign of our late Queen. Thank you for sharing.

Winston Churchill offered a plan where he could marry Wallace and remain King but should could never be made Queen. He did not give up the throne because he couldn't marry the woman he loved. He gave up the throne because they would not make his wife queen. Not that their life was bad afterwards. Sleep until noon, golf, afternoon naps, expensive dinner parties, etc.

      Also the Windsors were shameless social climbers who ran an informal dating agency between impoverished British aristocrats and the so called dollar princesses, women sold into the British aristocracy by their Trumpian style parents. By doing so they propped up the failing British aristocracy and they are still doing so today, exploiting ancient family ties in order to benefit from off shore tax arrangements through the corrupt City of London financial services sector.
      It's obscene to be anyone's subject in the 21st century let alone in the home of Western parliamentary democracy and law. If you Muricans want a royal family so much then feel free to help yourselves to the parasites from the UK. At least they have better manners than dirty Donald Trump and Princess Ivanka.

Andrew Lownie uncovered documents in Bahamas, Spain Portugal archives that the Duke was not an innocent pawn but wrote to German officials using German war code they gave him, wrote he was ready for them to help him regain his throne, suggested they bomb London, gave them copy of his French defenses scouting report. He apparently was a very complex man well ahead of his time. Who had only 2 true loves. The woman he gave everything he had ever known up for and the Country he loved yet had to leave but always wanted to come home too. To be able to honor his Great Uncle, His Family, and his Country in such a way. To bring light, truth, uncover mystery and set the record straight. This was so well done by the Prince. Absolutely incredible... Thank you Prince Edward, for all you did on this. I wish more people would take time to really look at history, not just what were told or allowed know but look at the whole picture. There is always more than meets the eye.

    Edward is a talented film maker and he treated the life of the abdicated king of England with much dignity and I do believe there is a bit of love there. He did not know his great uncle, but certainly knew all about him. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were a rootless and very sad couple indeed, swinging from continent to continent, yet belonging nowhere. Edward is able to show that the Duke's heart never really left England.

    I am surprised to see that Edward is quite personable, and has an easy rapport with the camera. And, better yet, his accent isn't as nearly as affected as Charles's.

      @@lynnhauenstein4136 I read that Edward had sent cameras to Eton to get footage of William while he was there. When his cameras, along with others, were told to leave, it was discovered who had sent that particular group. There was fallout. I’m not sure it ended his documentary career, but it certainly didn’t help.

    The Earl of Wessex does a very creditable job of presenting this documentary. He is listed as writer as well and if true, he did a good job there too. A shame he was unable to continue to develop as a storyteller because he was well on his way to becoming a good one.
