Pulse Rifles really feel like the perfect counterpart to Handcannons. Its a shame most of the current excisting ones are so difficult to get your hands on them as they're either in deep endgame content or RNG is in a boxfight with RNG. Gridskipper is definitly a pulse rifle we'll be seeing a lot though this season. Strong archtype, strong performance for its archtype and the perk pool is something else. Looking forward to see how many people will hate the " dad guns" spamming them with flinch this season.

the one crucial thing to keep in mind about vigiwing: you absolutely need Vigil of Saint-14 to give it its full potential. both the base gun and the gingerbread gun ornament have the chunkiest ADS ever and detract from the weapon.
I just commented something similar about how The Third Axiom is useless due to it's scope/gun model. There's a bunch like that in the game, and it makes you wonder how nobody in testing said they absolutely suck to play with compared to cleaner glasses.

Outbreak perfected is my favorite gun that has ever been added and simply just feels at home in my hands, its less competitive but has that quality of life flow to it.
FYI, Time-worn spire can two-burst with One for All, which gives you the highest damage bonus of 35% and is easier to proc than you might think. If you are challenging a lane against multiple people, they tend to peek out and dip back into cover. If you have Armour-Piercing bullets, you can easily tag more than one person with a burst, and this thing fires pretty fast, so it’s a lot of bursts. Long story short, the third person to peek out gets a desperado treatment and you can keep that desperado for 10 secs. Right now these pulses are dropping like candy during Halloween from Iron Banner, so look out for one with Slideways or Subsistence or Moving target + OFA + Armour piercing + Mid-zoom scope. This pulse is not S-tier, but it is definable unique.
I just wish he did a bit more digging on each pulse before making the list. Cold Denial is probably the worst in its archetype because of the low zoom factor and it falls off at 31m meaning you are going to struggle against a properly rolled Palindrome and you don't even stand a chance against a 120 especially if they are charged with light. Stars should be in the A tier as it has a zoom factor of 18 and can maintain bullet magnetism out to 60-65m without a max range roll while the Cold Denial is whiffing shots.
got a high caliber, outlaw and headseeker Premonition that absolutely slapped in PvP but then they sunset it only to bring it back without the same perk I loved
Even though I love NTTE and Vigi Wing, I might've even ranked Messenger alone in S but perhaps that's just because it suits my personal playstyle better. Also I think the notes at 15:30 are pretty important/insightful for anyone considering using a pulse rifle. Overall awesome video!!

It may come down to personal preference, but right now my favorite pulse rifle in the game is time worn spire, and I don't even have my God roll yet. I do have two that are very similar and very close and if I combined them it would be a god roll for me. For now the closest I have is a mid range scope (prefer the long range on my other), high cal rounds, slideways, iron grip, and handling mw. There is no damage boosting perk here, but with the high stability this offers in addition to slideways it is extremely consistent and reliable in every gun fight. I don't have even close to a God roll grudskipper yet, but from the few I've tried, I am not sure it will feel as good as the TWS. I am still grinding for that God roll so I have a good option to pair with the Chap when I'd rather use a pulse than my bottom dollar.

Though I recently went up against someone using VWing and he barely won the gun fight pretty much every time I went against him. Might give it a try. I also really like Time Worn Spire. Got some pretty awesome feeds with it. I love how mine feels, consistently dumps a lot of bullets down range. Tried Gridskipper but it just wasn’t doing it for me. Id swap TWS and Gridskipper on this list. Obv my personal pref.
I always preferred the energy one who’s name I can’t remember and am too lazy to look up. Worse stats, but I always seemed to do much better with it for some reason.
Time-worn spire can roll with iron grip, wich kills reload but you can reach +80 stability with that. It's like a laser even on controller. It's dynamic-sway levels of consistency Also, since you already have minimun reload, using extended mag has no downsides, and a reload mod fixes the problem
Vigilance Wing has been a favorite of mine since it got hyperbuffed in S3. The optimal TTK can be achieved with just two bursts, you clean easily clean up a kill with a third burst if you screw up with the first two, the five-round burst in general feels super unique and hits like a truck, and the catalyst gives it the severely underrated full auto trigger system perk. Things like 120rpm hand cannons may be better on paper, but V Wing combines effective killing power with astonishing ease of use, and it’s my go-to primary in most PVP activities
Great list. The peek shoot potential of high impacts can’t be denied though. Peeking out and doing over a 100 damage at long range... I’ve gotten so many clean up kills with them, people just don’t expect to be hit like that.
It is nice the destiny community is so helpful to new players especially this channel i just found , the game is super fun and I just finished beyond light as a warlock. I am glad no time to explain is ranked so high, I liked it even regardless, great video explaining too
tunnel vision on the gridskipper is quite nice, I have the tunnel vision/multikill clip roll, and I love it. I gotta say though, I think heating up/multikill clip is the way to go, I *also have that roll with ricochet rounds and after a few kills, in tandem with the damage buff from multikill clip, it becomes an unstoppable lazer. For those of you out there chasing a roll, I highly reccomend heating/multikill clip.
Yeah, me as well. Despite sacred provenance shares the same archetype and has great perks (mine has rapid hit and kill clip) something feels off when I try to use it in pvp. It's just not consistent at all.
might as well do this with every other weapon type. great work. I loved chattering bone but stars has been my baby but who don't love a despo messenger.
The gridskipper definitely deserves to be in the A+tier. The gun is amazing. I got a small bore, high caliber rounds, tunnel vision and multi kill clip. Plus, you can run the gridskipper and bastion together. I just wish the guns flinch like they should, but what ever.
God, I love NTTE. A high impact pulse with really good perks, it returns rounds to the mag on headshot, and the little gun buddy greatly helps with suppressing fire and adds a ton of forgiveness when hitting bodyshots.
To me, pulse rifles feel like the best alternative to hand cannons in pvp and also generally feel a bit better in PvE. I really like using firmly planted, kill clip/damage boost pulse rifles on nightstalker, makes it really easy to proc flawless execution and hold down a lane or doorway. I also like using pulses with bottom tree golden gun for the extra stability and faster super from precision kills. I think I would rather use a hand cannon or auto rifle (Titan) on the other classes though.
Man, the day you could start getting premonition at shadowkeep's launch I got a max range outlaw kill clip roll that carried me through hundreds of hours in the crucible, I miss being able to bring it out for trials, but i still use it from time to time in control :,)
Graviton Lance is easily an A tier pulse with it’s catalyst. Hidden hand grants +20 range and +15 aim assist, making it’s total AA 75 before target mods...basically it’s always going to crit, and it’s a guaranteed 4 burst from any distance, 3 burst before range drop off. Cosmology isn’t fantastic by any means, but you’d have to be really bad at Destiny to miss crits with Graviton. It’s A tier because it’s consistent, and I regularly out duel 120 hand cannons with it.
Personally the Chattering Bone has been S tier for me! I used to run messenger on wide maps now I just run Chattering Bone for everything! (6v6 control mind you)…. I got opening shot and high impact reserves. Fast swap/ADS, fast reload, lightweight = move faster. Works for me as I run striker Titan with 80 mobility with glacioclasm. And I win a LOT of gun fights! I don’t have high caliber rounds but I think it must inherently cause some good flinch! I’ve been loving it! Lol
back when I used to play ESL in BF4 and BF3 my faves were the AN94 and the M16A4 in BF4 speccially. timing pulse rifles in Destiny is a breeze, so V Wing is my most cherished weapon in the kinectic slot when I feel like going brain dead.
I have 13000 kills in crucible-trials with Graviton Lance is so good !! Vigilance Wing is my other favorite …sometimes The Messenger…. Have to look at it this way …use the weapon that suits you ……hand cannons ,snipers ,shotguns ,pulse rifles, auto rifles they all good weapons… use whatever make you feel comfortable in a match-game
Bad Juju is get with attunement of sky with its hip-fire grip. So much fun also the not needing to reload has helped me destroy people that expect me to after I kill their friend lol.

It' has always seemed to odd to me how many Hand Cannon purists always sing the praises of using skillful weaponry when they are using the primary with the least amount of shots needed to connect, the highest aim assist, the best peek shooting potential and one of the best aerial shots in the entire game, and then decry Pulse Rifles as "Dad Rifles" requiring no skill.
I have the God Roll Gridskipper and it's A- Tier, maybe even A tier. Arrowhead, Ricochet, Heating up, multikill clip. I get so many triple that are from heating up and I haven't had to reload to activate mulitikill clip.
Honestly though - I hadn't tried it a lot since I masterworked it. But Cold Denial honestly slaps - I have a cool themed perk roll on it. Cold Denial /w: Killing Wind, Eye of the Storm, I put Icarus Grip on it and it has a Range masterwork stat boost. I didn't realize how hard it popped off, with Killing Wind active I was getting solid 2-3 shot kills to the head, with some fast 3 shot body kills. I haven't come across a pulse rifle that I actually like more. Currently trying to get some good rolls on Auto Rifles and Submachine Guns as I prefer auto weapons.
Really great list. Totally agree with those S tiers. NTTE is actually ridiculous in PvP and I'm always so surprised (and glad) when it never gets a nerfed in new sandboxes. I don't even see many others use it.
Agree with this list besides stars in shadow I think personally it should be up at A tier especially with kill clip. Other than that spot on and great video!
As someone who just got into D2, i personally love Bad Juju (especially for PvE)...However it's also good for PvP, if you get used to it. It can easily wipe a full team in 3v3.
Jian 7 by far my most favorite pulse rifle in PvP to date. We all have our preferences and for me it's just the best one. Sure I haven't tried all perk combos on all pulse rifles, but damn does it shred.
I'd absolutely agree with most of where you ranked these pulses but the problem is that a good number of these weapons can change tiers depending on what it's rolled with. The Messenger is an s-tier weapon so long as you have Desperado. Without it, it drops down into A-tier (even a "badly" rolled Messenger is still amazing though). I'd argue that a god-roll 540 is definitely an S-tier weapon (heating up, multi-kill clip for Gridskipper is s-tier and probably the best 540 in the game, IF you get that roll). I have a god-roll Time-Worn Spire with red dot micro, high-cal, moving target and iron grip with a stability masterwork. It's extremely consistent, flinches your opponent like crazy and it's the best 1v1 duel weapon I've used in D2. You do have to play around the inherent disadvantages of a 540 (most notably range), but a good player will know how to close the gap to get within optimal range. And once you're there, you'll out duel pretty much everyone. People just aren't ready nor expecting a 540 to be that consistent, coupled with the added stickiness and strafing speed that comes with moving target. I used it almost exclusively in Comp last season on my way to legend. Can't tell you how many 120's and Messengers I beat in Comp because of how dominant the weapon is in 1v1's. Couple that with the numerous damage boost's PVP has now (Whisper of Hedrons, Charged with Light builds and etc.), I was often two bursting my opponents with a 540. 540's in my opinion, are the best pulse rifles for aggressive, fast players and for those who often find themselves dueling others. It's a fantastic archetype.
Imo Cold Denial and Stars in Shadow should both be in A-, but I think the Cold Denial just edges Stars in Shadow out by one tiny bit by having the better FOV and (somehow) it feels more stable even though it's a high impact pulse. That said, both are amazing pulses.
The only times I've been able to get 40+ kills in crucible is with the V-wing. I'm very inconsistent and not up there as a PvP player. But when the V-wing comes out it always performs. Hands down my favorite pulse.
Im so glad i farmed my double perk cold denial all the way in arrivals. Arrowhead break/Fluted - Ricochet - Killing wind - Swash/Mkc with range masterwork :D
Tunnel vision with Frenzy on Gridskipper is alot of fun in pve. Throw down a empowering well with Sanguine Alchemy and Devour ontop of it is a one man harvesting machine. Only prob is you run out of ammo pretty fast!

I would swap Cold and Stars because of the range that Stars can engage at. Cold Denial has a zoom of 14 which is really low and makes it struggle to compete against 120's and DMT. Messenger (18), Stars (18), Sacred (18) and can roll with Rangefinder/Kill clip, No time (17), Premonition (18) all have a better zoom factor and without even a max range roll Cross was finding that Stars still had bullet magnetism at 60m and was securing a 3 burst kill while Cold Denial was taking 9 bursts. Cold Denial should probably be an A- or B tier pulse as it's got good perks and is deadly inside of that 31m range but if you can secure even a basic roll like I did with Stars with Firmly Planted and KC, a Sacred Provenance God Roll, a Nasty Messenger roll, or a nice Premonition then they will serve you much better than even the best Cold Denial. Not to mention that higher zoom means you can go for perks that correct your burst pattern. If you can't get any of these high impacts then No Time is a great starting point and it absolutely shreds people. I have to say that my Sacred Provenance feels the best though as it has the ideal roll with perfect recoil, high cal to flinch the enemy, rapid hit for blazing fast reloads even after one burst to their face if they decide to run, and kill clip to turn it up a notch after a kill (a range master work for good measure). If Cold denial had a 16 zoom factor it might be more deserving of a higher ranking.
I have at least 1 of all of these and Gridskipper is my absolute favorite legendary. It's consistent and nasty with Heating-Up and MKC - add Sprint Grip for the lower handling.
8:04 It would've been absolutely hilarious if you said "And for this reason I'm putting it in the _ tier" after the Stranger clip. That way you would've ranked it without explaining why. You could've even thrown in a "And I don't have time to explain why" after, and then said "Oh wait nevermind, I have some time actually". Also you forgot to mention that the Time Worn Spire can roll with the Iron Grip (I believe it's called) perk which makes it's stability go so high that it feels like a Hawksaw.
I don't use pulses often but the ones I do use are up in s and A tier so I would agree with this ranking. I just wish I had a stars in shadow with perks good enough to compare to my perdition.
“Where Pulses really lose out to Hand Cannons is...” ...in not having ludicrous aim assist values that mean anything around the upper body counts as a headshot. (And before anyone tries it, yes, M&K has aim assist. It actually has more bullet magnetism than controller does.)

Hailing Confusion is such a good pulse. I have a Surplus + Wellspring roll and it SLAPS. The recoil is literally nothing and the kick of it is ZERO

It was great. I used the same max-Stability Feeding Frenzy/ Rampage roll in PvE and PvP constantly.
I had a 97-range Feeding Frenzy / Kill Clip roll which was the *best*

Get heating up on a gripper. It's the best pulse in the game. High impact reserves and heating it up makes it s tier easyyyyy

Graviton Lance is a beast right now, with energy accelerant and Warmind's Decree.
Stars in Shadow with Surplus/KC (and high stability perks) is incredible on controller.

It is nice the destiny community is so helpful to new players especially this channel i just found , the game is super fun and I just finished beyond light as a warlock. I am glad no time to explain is ranked so high, I liked it even regardless, great video explaining too
tunnel vision on the gridskipper is quite nice, I have the tunnel vision/multikill clip roll, and I love it. I gotta say though, I think heating up/multikill clip is the way to go, I *also have that roll with ricochet rounds and after a few kills, in tandem with the damage buff from multikill clip, it becomes an unstoppable lazer. For those of you out there chasing a roll, I highly reccomend heating/multikill clip.
They need to bring back black armory weapons I want my god damn Blast furnace
I still find myself using Redrix even now in regular crucible. I wouldn’t mind getting an exotic version of it in the future.

As I started playing Destiny 2 my favourite one was Gravitation Lance, before Sunsetting my absolute Favourite Pulse Rifle was Go Figure.

Yeah, me as well. Despite sacred provenance shares the same archetype and has great perks (mine has rapid hit and kill clip) something feels off when I try to use it in pvp. It's just not consistent at all.
might as well do this with every other weapon type. great work. I loved chattering bone but stars has been my baby but who don't love a despo messenger.
The gridskipper definitely deserves to be in the A+tier. The gun is amazing. I got a small bore, high caliber rounds, tunnel vision and multi kill clip. Plus, you can run the gridskipper and bastion together. I just wish the guns flinch like they should, but what ever.
God, I love NTTE. A high impact pulse with really good perks, it returns rounds to the mag on headshot, and the little gun buddy greatly helps with suppressing fire and adds a ton of forgiveness when hitting bodyshots.
To me, pulse rifles feel like the best alternative to hand cannons in pvp and also generally feel a bit better in PvE. I really like using firmly planted, kill clip/damage boost pulse rifles on nightstalker, makes it really easy to proc flawless execution and hold down a lane or doorway. I also like using pulses with bottom tree golden gun for the extra stability and faster super from precision kills. I think I would rather use a hand cannon or auto rifle (Titan) on the other classes though.
Man, the day you could start getting premonition at shadowkeep's launch I got a max range outlaw kill clip roll that carried me through hundreds of hours in the crucible, I miss being able to bring it out for trials, but i still use it from time to time in control :,)
Yes it's so good. I don't understand what were they thinking when they removed kill clip from the perk pool.
My fav pulse rifles atm- Adept Messenger, Vigilance, outbreak, and chattering bones
Graviton Lance is easily an A tier pulse with it’s catalyst. Hidden hand grants +20 range and +15 aim assist, making it’s total AA 75 before target mods...basically it’s always going to crit, and it’s a guaranteed 4 burst from any distance, 3 burst before range drop off. Cosmology isn’t fantastic by any means, but you’d have to be really bad at Destiny to miss crits with Graviton. It’s A tier because it’s consistent, and I regularly out duel 120 hand cannons with it.
Personally the Chattering Bone has been S tier for me! I used to run messenger on wide maps now I just run Chattering Bone for everything! (6v6 control mind you)…. I got opening shot and high impact reserves. Fast swap/ADS, fast reload, lightweight = move faster.
Works for me as I run striker Titan with 80 mobility with glacioclasm. And I win a LOT of gun fights! I don’t have high caliber rounds but I think it must inherently cause some good flinch! I’ve been loving it! Lol
Time worn spire is my favourite pulse of all time ( haven’t gotten messenger yet tho)

back when I used to play ESL in BF4 and BF3 my faves were the AN94 and the M16A4 in BF4 speccially.
timing pulse rifles in Destiny is a breeze, so V Wing is my most cherished weapon in the kinectic slot when I feel like going brain dead.
I have 13000 kills in crucible-trials with Graviton Lance is so good !! Vigilance Wing is my other favorite …sometimes The Messenger…. Have to look at it this way …use the weapon that suits you ……hand cannons ,snipers ,shotguns ,pulse rifles, auto rifles they all good weapons… use whatever make you feel comfortable in a match-game
Last perdition is my go to pvp pulse, range finder and zen moment make this weapon awesome
Bad Juju is get with attunement of sky with its hip-fire grip. So much fun also the not needing to reload has helped me destroy people that expect me to after I kill their friend lol.
I still miss the Hawksaw from D1. Of all the past pulse rifles in Destiny (1 and 2) that was my favorite.
Gridskipper gets heating up, the best non-damage perk now in the game.
I got a High Cal, Heating Up, and High Impact Reserves roll and my god do I love it.

Thank you for making this point. It' has always seemed to odd to me how many Hand Cannon purists always sing the praises of using skillful weaponry when they are using the primary with the least amount of shots needed to connect, the highest aim assist, the best peek shooting potential and one of the best aerial shots in the entire game, and then decry Pulse Rifles as "Dad Rifles" requiring no skill.
I have the God Roll Gridskipper and it's A- Tier, maybe even A tier. Arrowhead, Ricochet, Heating up, multikill clip. I get so many triple that are from heating up and I haven't had to reload to activate mulitikill clip.
Honestly though - I hadn't tried it a lot since I masterworked it. But Cold Denial honestly slaps - I have a cool themed perk roll on it. Cold Denial /w: Killing Wind, Eye of the Storm, I put Icarus Grip on it and it has a Range masterwork stat boost. I didn't realize how hard it popped off, with Killing Wind active I was getting solid 2-3 shot kills to the head, with some fast 3 shot body kills. I haven't come across a pulse rifle that I actually like more. Currently trying to get some good rolls on Auto Rifles and Submachine Guns as I prefer auto weapons.
Really great list. Totally agree with those S tiers. NTTE is actually ridiculous in PvP and I'm always so surprised (and glad) when it never gets a nerfed in new sandboxes. I don't even see many others use it.

As someone who just got into D2, i personally love Bad Juju (especially for PvE)...However it's also good for PvP, if you get used to it. It can easily wipe a full team in 3v3.
The timewarp pulse rifle fron iron banner is good too im shredding with that

Jian 7 by far my most favorite pulse rifle in PvP to date. We all have our preferences and for me it's just the best one. Sure I haven't tried all perk combos on all pulse rifles, but damn does it shred.
I'd absolutely agree with most of where you ranked these pulses but the problem is that a good number of these weapons can change tiers depending on what it's rolled with. The Messenger is an s-tier weapon so long as you have Desperado. Without it, it drops down into A-tier (even a "badly" rolled Messenger is still amazing though).
I'd argue that a god-roll 540 is definitely an S-tier weapon (heating up, multi-kill clip for Gridskipper is s-tier and probably the best 540 in the game, IF you get that roll). I have a god-roll Time-Worn Spire with red dot micro, high-cal, moving target and iron grip with a stability masterwork. It's extremely consistent, flinches your opponent like crazy and it's the best 1v1 duel weapon I've used in D2. You do have to play around the inherent disadvantages of a 540 (most notably range), but a good player will know how to close the gap to get within optimal range. And once you're there, you'll out duel pretty much everyone. People just aren't ready nor expecting a 540 to be that consistent, coupled with the added stickiness and strafing speed that comes with moving target. I used it almost exclusively in Comp last season on my way to legend. Can't tell you how many 120's and Messengers I beat in Comp because of how dominant the weapon is in 1v1's. Couple that with the numerous damage boost's PVP has now (Whisper of Hedrons, Charged with Light builds and etc.), I was often two bursting my opponents with a 540.
540's in my opinion, are the best pulse rifles for aggressive, fast players and for those who often find themselves dueling others. It's a fantastic archetype.
Imo Cold Denial and Stars in Shadow should both be in A-, but I think the Cold Denial just edges Stars in Shadow out by one tiny bit by having the better FOV and (somehow) it feels more stable even though it's a high impact pulse. That said, both are amazing pulses.
I've been runninghigh caliber, rapid hit, kill clip Sacred Provenance this season and loving it.
The only times I've been able to get 40+ kills in crucible is with the V-wing. I'm very inconsistent and not up there as a PvP player. But when the V-wing comes out it always performs. Hands down my favorite pulse.
Im so glad i farmed my double perk cold denial all the way in arrivals. Arrowhead break/Fluted - Ricochet - Killing wind - Swash/Mkc with range masterwork :D
I actually love the chattering bone i don't have a god roll but I still love it, it's one of my favourite weapons
Tunnel vision with Frenzy on Gridskipper is alot of fun in pve. Throw down a empowering well with Sanguine Alchemy and Devour ontop of it is a one man harvesting machine. Only prob is you run out of ammo pretty fast!

I would swap Cold and Stars because of the range that Stars can engage at. Cold Denial has a zoom of 14 which is really low and makes it struggle to compete against 120's and DMT. Messenger (18), Stars (18), Sacred (18) and can roll with Rangefinder/Kill clip, No time (17), Premonition (18) all have a better zoom factor and without even a max range roll Cross was finding that Stars still had bullet magnetism at 60m and was securing a 3 burst kill while Cold Denial was taking 9 bursts. Cold Denial should probably be an A- or B tier pulse as it's got good perks and is deadly inside of that 31m range but if you can secure even a basic roll like I did with Stars with Firmly Planted and KC, a Sacred Provenance God Roll, a Nasty Messenger roll, or a nice Premonition then they will serve you much better than even the best Cold Denial. Not to mention that higher zoom means you can go for perks that correct your burst pattern.
If you can't get any of these high impacts then No Time is a great starting point and it absolutely shreds people. I have to say that my Sacred Provenance feels the best though as it has the ideal roll with perfect recoil, high cal to flinch the enemy, rapid hit for blazing fast reloads even after one burst to their face if they decide to run, and kill clip to turn it up a notch after a kill (a range master work for good measure). If Cold denial had a 16 zoom factor it might be more deserving of a higher ranking.

I have at least 1 of all of these and Gridskipper is my absolute favorite legendary. It's consistent and nasty with Heating-Up and MKC - add Sprint Grip for the lower handling.

That way you would've ranked it without explaining why. You could've even thrown in a "And I don't have time to explain why" after, and then said "Oh wait nevermind, I have some time actually".
Also you forgot to mention that the Time Worn Spire can roll with the Iron Grip (I believe it's called) perk which makes it's stability go so high that it feels like a Hawksaw.

I really love Lightweight Frames and 450rpm exotics. I don’t care if they’re bad, they feel so good to use (especially Outbreak Perfected).

I don't use pulses often but the ones I do use are up in s and A tier so I would agree with this ranking. I just wish I had a stars in shadow with perks good enough to compare to my perdition.

“Where Pulses really lose out to Hand Cannons is...” ...in not having ludicrous aim assist values that mean anything around the upper body counts as a headshot.
(And before anyone tries it, yes, M&K has aim assist. It actually has more bullet magnetism than controller does.)
