    In what is essentially a port of Donkey Kong Country 2 ( tasvideos.org/2027M ) to the Game Boy, Diddy Kong and his girlfriend must rescue Donkey Kong from Kaptain K. Rool. Along they way they are distracted by a copious amount of shiny coins and other miscellaneous tasks.
    This movie achieves 100% completion, which is the maximum allowable by the game.
    Alyosha ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/A... ) improves the previous TAS ( tasvideos.org/1489M ) by 2 minutes and 3.05 seconds, thanks to better optimisation, but also thanks to using an intended shortcut.

    How were we able to see this on the old gameboy?!

    • @Atylonisus
      @Atylonisus Год назад +2

      Owned this game.
      The answer is, the high-contrast black and white coloring factors in.
      Regardless, this game was one of those that you'd bring on road trips, not because you liked it or it was enjoyable, but because it never left the backseat pocket of your car.
      Ports of older games typically were a slog on GB.
      They would be massively pared down to even fit on a gamepak, but doing so got rid of most of the best parts of a game.
      If you want to see another example, look up the GB version of Rampage.

    this game annoyed me a lot back then

      @jacobduval4654 2 года назад

      What was the cause of the annoyance?

    • @Atylonisus
      @Atylonisus Год назад +1

      @@jacobduval4654 it wasn't the real DKC2. All the beautiful color palettes were removed for memory and hardware constraints, meaning the certain puzzles or aspects of the game specifically coded around being able to SEE would need to be reworked.
      The sound also suffered from being unable to "play" multiple concurrent sounds at the same time.
      You hear that all the time in this TAS where the music cuts out because a BOUNCE or BANANA sound effect supercedes the music itself, resulting in a choppy feel.
      Not that you'd get to listen to the music for long anyways. Parents famously HATED the beeps and boops of portable gaming and would yell at you to TURN THAT NOISE OFF.
      When you owned a ported GB game, you just understood you were in for a lackluster time.
      "I wouldn't be playing this game if I had anything else better to play."
