Wow, I'm so happy to see how much love this is getting, thank you so much to everyone who followed while I worked on this and to everyone who's watching it now!
Ok but this one is pretty cool for being portable, it still holds up with the GBA port around. This game is literally that one game that it's the same on both the 3DS and the DS except for the graphics and 3DS having some bonuses
True but this was the original GB (color), not the Advance, which was current at the time. It was an end-of-life release for the aging GB hardware. Still an interesting look back though.
Also not too long ago handheld ports were different to consoles' to be less complex and BAM! With a single generation now magically the games for handheld became exactly the same as the ones from console. Maybe this is the best time to have handhelds becuase now they're actually portable consoles in every single way!
While i was actually very happy with this version of donkeykong country, looking at it now, it felt more like a flashback rather then being an atmospheric experience because the snes version has it all along with that 90’s feel wich the gameboycolor versions lacks.
I remember how frustrated i was with the last world,i took me hours to beat that level with the lights turning off constandly, and everytime i ran oit of lives i waa always going back to world 1 to grab some extra lives in level 1, then going back to world 6 were i started that horrible again at the check point, and i was keep going following that same precedure going back and forth to grab some extra lives once i needed to do that, and then that moment i finally beated that level ,i was just soooo releaved man i could finally save from that point to contineu on the next day, because back then i was playing that game in my darkroom under a light bulb, phew.
I was wondering if someone would've done a TAS of this game. I remember trying to get passed Gorilla Glacier when I was a kid on GBC. Finally got passed it til I got suck on a different level. Never finished this. Love the TAS.
Nice TAS! One question (since I didn't find the answer in the author's comments): Why did he take a small detour to Cranky in the overworld at 6:53, instead of going straight to the next level? It happens in other worlds too, so I guess it's required for some reason.
The overworld movement is forced after beating a level for the first time! Unfortunately in worlds 2, 3 and 4, it sends you in the wrong direction, which loses some time but is unavoidable.
16:06 If you shoot upright in the barrel next to the Necky (or the one next to it, don't remember) you end up in the section skip barrel too, at least on SNES. It's faster I think.
Not in this game, that shoots you to the 4th barrel which is past the skip and would require you to go back to get to it. You can't steer yourself in midair, your speed gets locked. Although it looks slow this is the fastest way to the skip, trust me, I tried everything!
I think I would have liked to see more entertainment tradeoffs during the levels whose gimmick is "bad lighting." I can hardly see a damn thing during those segments.

I love TASs like this where it's just 'go forward as fast as possible, let nothing be in your way' really mesmerizing to watch at 2x speed.
good channel profile picture
Love the music sync at 17:30.
Also, this port really is a miracle.
Truly Rare's talent at its best.
using DK Land’s engine to remake DKC1 on the GBC was a genius idea
plus its actually a very solid port
Ikr?
It's also like hard mode
it plays worse than all 3 dkl games lol
DKL2 seems to control better than DKL1
I've been waiting for this TAS for ages. Well done to DK (DeathKontrol)!
I love the sound Neckies make
Agreed. I'm fond of the banana collection sound as well
Aeeeee
Man, this makes the movement in this port actually look somewhat decent!
I had this version and I played it before the SNES version, what a difference that was!

This Gameboy music is so good! I prefer many tracks to the their SNES version even
Amazing how vibrant the colors on this port are.
Trick Track Trek, where Diddy Kong drops his new mixtape.
Barely talking about this unique GBC version of DKC been made...
Its surprisingly how it was well made in 2000 days.
I still can't believe this game is from 2000
Look at how portable games have evolved in a span of 22 years, holy shit...

Yes like back then the difference was night and day while now, if you're lucky, it's the same thing as consoles, otherwise there are slight downgrades

Yeah, we went from having the same game as a home console with significant downgrades to just having the same as a home console and stop. 🤣🤣
Lol I replied 3 times, I'm gonna leave that 😂😂
Aquatic Ambiance still sounds choice. Great TAS!
Beautiful, I’ve always wanted to play this!

I had no idea DKC was directly ported to the GBC. I knew about Donkey Kong Land, but DKC? I might have to check this out…
00:24
Am I crazy or is this literally a downgraded screen grab from the DK64 menu select screen?
No it's original
You’re not crazy, that’s literally what it is
14:33 Lol Diddy moved so fast I thought he became an unused sprite for an insect enemy 😂
11:45 sick
wild tebt
It's kinda weird seeing this when the gameboy version was made.

While i see this i hear the green hill zone music in my head

@@DeathKontrol Gotcha. Thanks!

Oh yes… watching this for sure
Love this game. ❤
How is the Game Boy one less broken than the SNES one?
Seems that the GBC version has less glitches
Epic!
11:33
I'd be doing all that to if I could see all the data as im playing lol. the tools used trivialize the game I bet
I think I would have liked to see more entertainment tradeoffs during the levels whose gimmick is "bad lighting." I can hardly see a damn thing during those segments.
There's a video on my channel of those levels with the lights on, so you can see what the TAS is doing!
I never did beat this game
I did it took me hard work and dedication to beat the game!
Expand Dong
23:23 XD
子供の頃めちゃくそやってたな…
is this some kind of trainer or a real player?
Research what a TAS is and you will find out.
@@notsyzagts7967 thanks, now it makes sense
There’s no way this was an official Nintendo game
Well, it is, sooooo… 🤷♂️
@@yordansic I made that comment 2 years ago. IDK if my comment was supposed to be positive or negative

You're familiar with Mario Kart, right?
