That line reminds me of my (great) aunt who should have died years ago because of cancer and now she should have died a year ago because of "old age" (her lungs dont work properly) now shes in her bed wondering when she will die and she doesn't even recognize her sisters anymore she cant even recognize me and i would go everywhere with her when i was younger. Now the sad part is that one of her sisters (my other great aunt) has died of cancer recently she was always a healthy person but one day she felt bad, she went to the hospital and found out. The doctors said she would have a good chance of surviving, and now my uncle has cancer. The future is unknown
Me too. I'm an AIDS survivor (end stage when they found it). I was supposed to die at the end of June, 2008. Since RENT came out, I find myself thinking that particular line every day several times.
After my second heart surgery, there were severe complications. They resulted in my heart stopping twice. I was fully awake and lucid both times. I'll never forget that feeling. I could actually hear my blood cease to circulate and my lungs give out. I watched in quiet horror as my EKG flatlined, and though I was surrounded my doctors and nurses, I'd never felt so alone and scared in my whole life. That was almost three years ago. My heart is finally healthy. I'm a mom to a beautiful little boy. And damnit, I'm alive. No day, but today.
What I love about this scene is, it did not matter.. White, black, tall short, male, female convectional, or gay young, not so young..Aids did not discriminate, the only thing in common was, we lost friends family loved one's to this horrible deadly Diseases. Miss you always Sam, you are forever in my heart.
During the AIDS crisis, so many years ago. It was an absolute death sentence. We actually had weekend conventions to learn, talk and feel. The community accepted everyone on that death row because there we many people who feared them, ran from them. Some wouldnt even aet in the same room much less hug, kiss or even hold their hands as they died. I personally only lost 4 friends to AIDS. I guess its a had to be there thing to truly understand how desperate HIV/AIDS patients were for any connections.
@@selinaburke7645i call BS. Many found a deeper connection with their friends as a result of their diagnosis. It was the outsiders that shunned people living with the virus. Yes there were members of the community that shunned those of us living with HIV, but it was the community that rallied, demonstrated and demanded a place at the table. Groups like ACTUP, Friends in Deed and many others.
Just imagine how boring Mark Cohens film would have been if he had not been so lucky to find the one Life Support group that always starts collective singing and reaches emotional climaxes in less than 2 minutes?
There's only us, there's only this. Forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other road, no other way. No day but Today This was my Senior Quote in my High School Year Book. :]
The magic of this story is how it combines dispare, terror, hope and precious beauty all at the same time. These things should be seperate, but here they're not.
No Day But Today! A message that we all need to be reminded of, especially in the times that we're living in! No regrets! Love life to the fullest and as if each day is our last! Thank you for this beautiful and powerful song Jonathan Larson! I know you are smiling down from up high! ❤️❤️❤️
Years later and this still gives me chills. It breaks my heart that people suffer through this. I hope there’s a cure one day. No one should have to suffer like that. This is such a wonderful musical and I love it so much. I cry every time I watch it.
I mean Gordon isn’t in much of the play. He’s in the life support meetings and that’s I think it. And he is in the ensemble for SEASONS OF LOVE. In the play SEASONS OF LOVE A comes at the start of ACT 2 (it’s a 2 act play/musical) instead of the beginning of ACT 1 like the movie.
the movie is an adaptation of a broadway musical. Most of the actors in the movie were part of the broadway production in NYC. Mimi and Joanne I think were the only 2 that were not part of the broadway musical.
People usually say that they cry at the funeral, understandably so, but these three life support songs are what get me the most. Beautifully simple, and hauntingly true :)
Hang in there. This video gives such a beautiful voice to those suffering from HIV and AIDS. I am not infected, but this song, and movie have touched my heart. May God be with you!!
My brother passed away from an Aids related illness. He was born with it and grew up very ashamed of being AIDS positive. Which was my stepfathers fault. He became very angry and started doing drugs and not taking his meds. We had various scares over the years but 4 years ago he had something like meningitis but aids related, I can't remember the name of it. He was on life support and my stepfather made the decision to take him off. I wish he had grown up in a world where it wasn't a shameful secret. I wish he had more support then me who loved him unconditionally. I wish he had Life Support while he was alive to benefit from it. This movie means so much to me and breaks my heart at the same time.
I had that meningitis when they found my AIDS in 2008. Cryptococcal meningitis. It's a fungus and it infects your spinal fluid and the fluid around your brain, making it swell. It's the most painful thing I've ever had. But once they drain it with a simple spinal tap, it's treatable. I'm sorry your stepfather didn't try. They could have kept him alive. I feel very lucky that my husband was determined to keep me going.
this movie the story should be a compose for everyone this movie shows that happyness and hope can be bad no matter how horible it looks thank you so much Jonathan Larso may you rest in peace im sorry unever got to see ur work but u will always e with every person that loves the play and movie.
This and Will I are my favorite songs from Rent. Wayne Wilcox has a gorgeous voice. He's best known for his stage work which makes sense considering how theatrical he sings. But these two songs dont have many lyrics or are very long but boy do they pack a punch and a powerful message. Jonathan Larson was a fucking genius. It's sad he didnt live to see Rent become the huge success it became. btw, Anthony Rapp who plays Mark and Wilson Cruz who played Angel in a 1998 production, play an openly gay couple on Star Trek Discovery.
What a play What a movie What a soundtrack This ranks with the greats Rent can be said in the company of Andrew Lloyd Webber's great works .... Jonathan Larson we miss you , we love you thank you for your legacy which will live on and be a testament to Alphabet City and the 1980's. PEACE
rent is the most touching musical i have ever seen. i love how gordon sings in the beginning and then everyone joins in. it moves me to tears. its so sad to think about how many people died during the AIDS epidemic. its horrible. i agree with you because when i think of how many people live with disease like that it breaks my heart
It is and to me it is the most important musical of all time, Johnathan Larson brought awareness to that part of the world with homelessness and disease. I wish Jonathan was still here he would have written more and would have been an important figure in playwright, he would have done more musicals especially for the world we're living in right now. We need you Jonathan, No Day but Today
This song hits really close to home. It’s been a little over 3 years since I attempted suicide and here I am. I overdosed on so many pills, and yet, no need for a stomach pump or medication for years. Just a three day coma. Reason says I should’ve died 3 years ago. But here I am.
I'm so happy you didn't succeed in that venture. You're worth more than you can even imagine. Never give up and keep the world bright with your light, hun.🫂
He is really great and I loved the character Marty, so this just made him even better. He also kind of resembles David Moscow from Newsies and at first I thought this was a little reunion for David and Aaron Lohr, but then I realized I was wrong. :o)
aw this is prbly my all time favorite song it honestly made me cry whn i first heard it frm suffrng frm an attmtpt suicide 3 years prior jonathan larson is a genius RIP jonathan NO DAY BUT TODAY
There is always hope. I'm glad this movie makes you think happy thoughts about your cousin, I'm sorry he has to face such an awful disease at a young age.
i dream of making music videos in which songs from rent play in the background. i would have different characters that go through similar things and deal with them in a way that touches the individual hearts of the audience. The best performances make the audience feel something, and even bring tears to their eyes because they connect to it in some way how the character must be feeling. they imagine when it would be like. Rent fits that exact description. Rent inspires me to do so.
this is by far my favorite song in this movie (usually, it changes daily) and i love that guy so much i just want to hire him to sing for me all day long every day!!! ^_^
The way Wilson postures his head and neck at 00:21 and 00:44 makes him look like he's really a woman. He's so beautiful. Not just like a good-looking guy. His facial features are beatiful.
The, "reason says I should've dies three years ago" line gets me everytime.
Bree Jean me too 😂😂he sounds beautiful 😍😍

I'm so happy you're still with us, Scott. How are you faring these days?
After my second heart surgery, there were severe complications. They resulted in my heart stopping twice. I was fully awake and lucid both times. I'll never forget that feeling. I could actually hear my blood cease to circulate and my lungs give out. I hope you’re still doing amazing…loved your words ❤
I hope you’re still doing well. Thank you for sharing your story. ❤
I’m happy that you’re a survivor, I know that comment was years ago but it hit me hard. Sending you so much love and prayers ❤

I know, right? Total one-in-a-million shot lol
Lol
He's using super 8 film which doesn't render sound lol
Absolutely touching. Peace and Blessings to all the Angels that left us all too soon as a result of HIV/AIDS.
There's only us, there's only this.
Forget regret, or life is yours to miss.
No other road, no other way.
No day but Today
This was my Senior Quote in my High School Year Book. :]
You wrote this 12 years ago :)
The magic of this story is how it combines dispare, terror, hope and precious beauty all at the same time. These things should be seperate, but here they're not.
I love the way Collins looks at Angel at the end of the song. His dad lil' heart eyes
I really like the film as a whole, but I LOVE this scene, all the way through Will I.
No Day But Today! A message that we all need to be reminded of, especially in the times that we're living in! No regrets! Love life to the fullest and as if each day is our last! Thank you for this beautiful and powerful song Jonathan Larson! I know you are smiling down from up high! ❤️❤️❤️

Gordon needs to have more in the movie!
hes so brilliant
one of the best voices ever!

Me too!
Praise God 🙏👼🕊️ and All of You, for THIS 😎.... The Greatest Musical 🎵🎼🎶 Ever Made 💓
❤
Not being from NYC or anywhere near NYC, I was lucky enough to see this @ the Nederlander Theater on Broadway in 1999, one of my favorite musicals
the movie is an adaptation of a broadway musical. Most of the actors in the movie were part of the broadway production in NYC. Mimi and Joanne I think were the only 2 that were not part of the broadway musical.
TheMotheMan Joanne was in Rent on Broadway. I'm not sure that she was in the original cast but she definitely ended up there
Carmen Debenedictis Tracie Thoms was Joanne in the closing cast of RENT, but not the original cast.
+TheMotheMan Mimi was played by Renée Elise Goldsberry in the original production on Broadway
She was a Mimi on broadway, but Daphne Rubin Vega was the original.
this one's more realistic and relatable; anyone can have a disease, anyone can be alone..
This song needs to be longer
the harmonizing in this movie is SO PERFECT! it makes all the songs even more powerful than they already are!
Angel looking flawless
People usually say that they cry at the funeral, understandably so, but these three life support songs are what get me the most. Beautifully simple, and hauntingly true :)
that guy has an awesome voice..i wanted to cry when he started singing ....i love this small scene
This is one of my favorite songs in the show! Too bad it's so short!
Hang in there. This video gives such a beautiful voice to those suffering from HIV and AIDS. I am not infected, but this song, and movie have touched my heart. May God be with you!!

I'm so sorry.
I keep watching this part of the film; this guy's voice is absolutely stunning and I love the concept of the song so much
This scene is a piece of singular cinematic and musical greatness. I get chills every time I see it.
I love, love, love this scene and song. The harmonies. The sentiment. So much.

''forget regret or life is yours to miss''
I can't help but fall apart every time when this song plays. It's so raw and emotional.
Best part of the whole movie, right there...when he sings "reason says I should've died three years ago"...I tear up each time.
ohmigod, it's Marty!!
RIGHT! He's got pipes!
right?!? my exact thoughts!!
I've almost died, I dunno how many times, and these songs break my heart. EVERY TIME.

my favourite scene in the entire movie, i think..
The way Wilson postures his head and neck at 00:21 and 00:44 makes him look like he's really a woman. He's so beautiful. Not just like a good-looking guy. His facial features are beatiful.
