Hi everybody, I have been following David's Rav's course (through "Master The Hand Handpan) since September, practicing on a little Tank Drum. (My Rav just got here 10 days ago and the universe has opened suddenly...) David's teaching style is so generous, friendly and progressive, anyone can definitely bring to life the Rav Player who was dormant in their heart. I personally have no musical background but I already feel I have already been getting so much joy with it and am already venturing some short personal compositions. The harmonizing power of this instrument is just beyond words.. Thank you so much David. Keep doing this wonderful work.. Pauline
I just found your videos, my rav is on the way. I'm practicing with a tongue drum. My speed isn't up to par as yet, but I am improving. These are wonderful ways to learn, your explanations are clear and the way you teach is fun and I feel I'm accomplishing ....music lol Thank you so much!
Great lessons! Thanks so much! I just got my VAST a few days ago and these videos are very helpful. I just have to watch the video one time; unlike some other videos where they demonstrate a rhythm at almost full speed and you've got to watch the video like twenty times to pick it up.
Oh man, this is such a good format. As a complete beginner who knows nothing about music (other than the fact that I love it haha)I REALLY appreciate it❤️
Damn it I gotta buy these now lol😂 I was really hoping to find some free lessons on YT. But now that I see this example,, I gonna really need this. I love the teaching style I just ordered my RAV Vast and I can't wait till it arrives!! Thank u will be back!
My rav vast b Kurd came today and in a matter of an hour I can slap out this tune and feel like a pro already. These lessons are wonderful! Will be signing up for the full course!
Really enjoying these lessons as someone who doesn't have any musical background before getting my first steel tongue drum. I'm looking forward to your full Rav course!
I am brand new to the Rav Vast and percussion in general. I love your videos. Is there someplace I can get the tabs that show at the bottom of the screen? Is there also a way I can use this to create my own tabs?
This is so helpful! Thank you so much for being so patient and posting these tutorials! I just got my Rav this week and don’t have a musical bone in my body so this was such a help! 🙏 Can you advise what that app is you use to set the beat please?
Thanks for these lessons, I just got a Rav Vast. Ultimately on this song/pattern what metronome speed should the ultimate pattern be to match your intro? Thanks
Great Video! Im 13 and really wanting one of these, but most of them seem to be really expensive and i was wondering if anyone knows any good RAV Vast drums being sold for a reasonable price?
I just bought a Rav Vast Kurd, as a completer beginner I look forward to purchasing your Rav full course. I plan on practicing with this tutorial before purchasing full course. Is it helpful to have a digital metronome to pace oneself, especially as a beginner? Thank you David,
I literally almost cried with relief and I found your channel. I have had my RAV Vast for a couple of weeks and really I had no idea where to even begin. What concerned me was that I knew I was developing bad habits, out of ignorance, of how to play correctly from the beginning. I'm willing to take all the time needed to start slowly and build good habits; but I had nowhere to get that instruction. Of the concerns I have- I do not seem to be able to create a good tone. It just feels as though I am not getting a ringing sound, a resonant sound. It feels weak and muted. It makes me question if I have purchased a drun which is perhaps too difficult for someone with zero experience. I have been advised by several people to use mallets; and something about that feels almost sacrilegious to me and certainly doesn't feel like what I envisioned playing a hand drum. I don't know if it's just ignorance of how to strike the tongue and where to strike the tongue. But I have been unable to replicate clear tone that I admire when others play. It seems to come so easily to them. I also have a double ding drum; and so I'm concerned that may have made my choice more difficult as it's harder for me to get the small tongues to resonate as well as the larger. How can I best apply a double ding instrument to instruction that does not have it? I am so grateful for your channel and if there is a complete instruction program available available to progress through each skill in a logical progression- please push me in that direction and you'll have a student for life. I also complicated my acquaintance with my drum by trying to understand the overtones that I have seen demonstrated on another channel, striking different parts of the tongue while dampening another part. I'm sure that's far too advanced and not helpful for a beginner. But these are the mistakes that I make when I do not have instruction with a clear progression of skills. I have seen some people strike only with the middle finger, and some strike with the ring and middle finger, and some who use their thumbs. Regardless of which way I attempt, I cannot seem to get the clear, ringing sound that seems to come naturally to other people. Also, I am a Leftie. 😗 I will go to your website and look at any options that there are for complete instruction. But I am very grateful to find this series of videos.
Oh wow thank you so much for sharing all this. The full RAV course is on its way. Will finish to shoot its videos during the summer. Here is the page to get all the infos : www.masterthehandpan.com/rav-vast-online-tutorials-and-lessons Can't wait to have you
Absolutely (given the fact you have a left-handed instrument). One approach is to reverse everything you see, so blue will be right and red will be left (the opposite to the current set-up).There will be a few restrictions for you as a left-handed player in that in the videos you will hear 'left' and for you it will be 'right' and as all the movements are reversed, it may take a little time to get used to.
Here is the metronome I am using : itunes.apple.com/us/app/pro-metronome-tempo-beat-subdivision-polyrhythm/id477960671?mt=8

Hi, What do you think of rav vast onoleo for a beginner ? or is another better like G pymy or Celtic ? Thanks
They are all really good. It's a matter of tastes. I love for myself the G pygmy

Verry funnyyyy thank you so much!!! J’ai joué mon premier petit morceau grâce à toi 😃👍 merci beaucoup hâte d’apprendre la suite 😊☀️
Oh trop bien!! merci de le partager ça fait super plaisir
Is it possible to switch left with right? It could feel better if you're a lefty, like me... :-) Or would there be a reason not to do so?

In the video you're playing at half speed in respect to the metronome so the actual BPM is half, no?
Great. Thanks
