  • It's as close to a railroad time machine as we have in this country - narrow gauge steam and scenery in abundance.
If you are planning to ride I strongly recommend going from Chama to Antonito rather than the more common reverse. The Antonito terminal is a big loop added when the line was cut back to the edge of town as a tourist operation. Chama is the real deal. It is fascinating watching as they prepare for departure in the morning, and the authentic yard is completely open to visitors.
    Recorded July 2019.
P.S. The ride is a little bumpy - bring your sea legs.

Love this railroad and the Durango and Silverton. I would love to see them meet up again one day, because each railroad is exciting in their own right but this would be truly awesome. I think it was surveyed to be 60 miles to link them again

Man, I remember when there was a time only the K-36s ruled the C&TS; now that 463 and 315 are back in action that isn’t the case anymore, although I wish I could say the same for the K37s and 483

It is one beautiful breath taking rides that I've done. My first time was from Chama to Osier and return. Mother Nature was right their riding among us. Where else could see this unbelievable scenery and have the four seasons all wrapped up in one day.
If you haven't taken time out for a trip on the C&TS, do it asap. It's worth it.

I rode it July 2019. Worth every dollar spent.

It saddens me to see the 315 being parked outside I wish they park it in a shed to keep it in running condition I hope she'll run again

The 315 is very much in operating condition, and often takes trips over the C&T, usually as a helper for one of the regular trains to let the Historical Society train their crews or just to stretch her legs.

8:43 That tender in the background belonged to K-27 462, the Locomotive was scrapped in the 50's but somehow the Tender survived

I have been on the Durango and Silverton and I have never been on the C&TS before. So I know that one thing is the same is the steam engines but what about the coaches are they in a different color? I just wanted to know so thanks.

I just wondering if they ever got their turn table built, cause I worked for the trucking company that hauled the parts in. I hauled in the main bearing block for the turn table. 🤔

Nice to see the 489 the way it used to be before they ruined it.
