Another trick for those with no welder, take nut off the stud, slide the closed in of the wrench on, then use two nuts tightened against each other and back it out.
1:35 at this point I generally keep a little heat on the block by way of a propane torch as the aluminium cools more quickly and grabs the bolt that has thermally expanded or naturally rusted.
All you do is put 2 nuts on and use one to lock the other from turning then put a wrench on it. Use penetrating oil if it feels super tight where it may break. And let it soak in over night. I’ll post a video in the morning called “simple easy Harley exhaust stud removal. Old skool way”
Wish mine In my buell would come out like that! Roanoke valley Harley Davidson screwed my bike up! Paid them 2k and they stripped the stud. Was riding bike and the front manifold fell off
@@HouseMadeUS Thanks for the reply. I let it soak for couple of days with penetration oil. I'm ready to try double-nut method tomorrow. If it's success, I will upload the video in my channel and update you on it. Thank you!

Do you think there is any way of repairing a stud if it has been stripped to some degree? I accidentally put the wrong nut on when replacing the exhaust so I double nutted the stud in the hopes I could get it close to torque specs without having to remove the stud. It’s the rear stud on the front port and a pain to get to on a limited. I think it may be the cause of vibration in the foot boards now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
You could as long as you get the exact size you need as to not bottom out the bolt and also hug up the exhaust right. I think they do it this way so it takes the guess work out of it.
For some reason my welds only stick to the nut but not the stud, any help on what it could be I cleaned the stud with a wire brush but nothing it doesn’t stick. Thanks

Soaking the stud with penetrating oil helps as well after welding. And keep the heat down as well or you'll be through the stud.

Thats that I thought he was going to do, saw Doc Harley do it but with the bottom engine studs.
What if the nuts are still training in place once the nuts are "locked"
Interesting! I'd stuff a rag in the exhaust port, those sparks are tiny pieces of metal that you don't want in de cylinder.
Good point, I did rebuild the top end after this, but yeah next time or for anyone who does this, plug them ports! Thanks Patrick! 👊🏻

Good idea, I'll probably be giving it a go in a few days

Great job. Have a similar problem now. Now i know how to take it out
Possibly the heat helped remove it .. but as commented already use kroil ..
Good work , with a job well done brother ...

Wtf that's really bad
Kroil works good
What is Kroil?
Could of just used two nuts and would of been able to take it off with welding
How about double-nut instead of welding it?
I tried that but she wouldn't budge. I think the heat helped

Hope your replacing with stainless ;)

Try the mini Ductor induction heater
It works trust me
Takes a lot of patience sometimes though
You got lucky
Agreed.

You could try a due and rethread it?
Am I just just stupid? Why are these studs needed? I just broke one last week on my 1700. Why can't I just use a stainless Allen bolt?

ALOT of penatrating oil and 2 nuts is what i use
Next time for sure.
Dude! Plug up that exhaust port before you weld to keep weld splatter out of your cylinder!
Now you tell me! 🤣
Uhhhh there is no direct way for weld splatter to get in to the cylinder via the exhaust port unless the valve is actually open
Why not just use commercially available stud remover ?
This was free and worked perfectly. Using what you have instead of buying something you might use only once is a better option.
Great where the F do I get a Mig ?
Amazon sells them. 👍🏻
ALL that splater from the welding just went into the exhause valve area... ??? always plug up the port man...
next time pinch two nuts together no welding needed
Agreed. I have done that many times
Gotta let em cool
I was about to comment on using the wrong socket, but then remembered, the U.S still uses Ye Olde Imperial units.🤣
Yeah I know! I would switch over to metric if I could. Much easier. We remain in the dark ages. 😂

More heat. Turn it up!
just put 2 nuts together and turn the bottom one to break it loose, much better than heat cycling a bolt by welding it to get it off
Was it a stainless steel stud?
And you have to go slow, once you break it you can hit it with an electric ratchet 😊
Oh. Da dear dee Right kid ...
weird question what kind of haircut does this guy have ?
Yup, thats a weird question alright🤣🤣
