  • "I will people would realize how much they waste in their own lives" - Genbo Nishikawa (Priest at Torinin)
Torinin, a pagoda of Myoshin-ji Temple, is known as the temple of the sara tree. Usually open to the public only in mid-June, when the sara trees are in bloom, and on special occasions, the temple has another face: that of a cooking school. The temple's priest, Nishikawa Genbo, devised the "Buddhist cuisine cooking class at Zen Temple" which is held twice a week. There are many temples in Kyoto that offer vegetarian cooking, but here visitors can learn actual recipes and cooking in the temple kitchen.
