Sycamore Gap Investigation Explained As I Attend Crown Court Hearing!

  • This video explains the police investigation into the Sycamore Gap tree being felled on the 28th September 2023 and the two suspects now awaiting trial. They are called Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers, from Cumbria.
Hadrians Wall was built around 1,900 years ago and it marks the Northern Frontier of the Roman Empire. It is of huge cultural and historical significance.
This tree sits on this UNESCO World Heritage Site, right next to Hadrians Wall and for this reason is afforded the highest protections, due to its historical interest and cultural attraction. The land belongs to the National Trust.
Other UNESCO sites include the Taj Mahal, Tower of London and many more.
Sycamore Gap is an area of global significance and interest, it drives tourism, boosts the local economy but is also a place where people lay ashes of their loved ones, make marriage proposals and find spiritual comfort. Thousands of people walk the length of the wall every year and come from all over the world.
Sycamore Gap (obviously named after the tree), is the centre of interest and fascination over the whole wall length and people travel from all over the world to see it. It is the 'Mecca' of the Hadrians Wall walk.
Claiming this is 'just a tree’, is a bit like someone stealing one of the Stonehenge stones and saying this is just about a quarry stone.
The information in this case has been derived from their appearance at Newcastle Magistrates Court on 15th May 2024, after several months of being on bail, pending the police investigation. Whilst at this hearing, the Prosecutor Rebecca Brown laid out the complexity of the case, including where expert evidence forms part of the prosecution case. This is elaborated on in the video.
This video is filmed in two locations; Newcastle Crown Court for their appearance on 12th June 2024 and at Sycamore Gap, the day before.
Both suspects have pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal damage but could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, due to the significant aggravating factors of the case and the fact they are forcing this case to trial.
If convicted, they will almost undoubtedly face a lengthy custodial sentence.

I simply cannot believe, what I've just heard as a full, factual report, into the (for want of a better expression) amount of detail garnered, presented and itemised to an absolutely stunning degree of accuracy!
I'm going to assume you are what could be described as a 'Citizen-Journalist' but, your in-depth knowledge, (much of what I am already aware of) leaves me stunned to say the least!
Your presentation skills are absolutely top-class in every measure possible, and frankly, you have knocked every other Journalist I've ever encountered, into some little pigeon-hole entitled "Must try harder!"
You have set the bar as high as it's possible to obtain. You should deservedly take all and every 'Plaudit' that could possibly apply, within the confines of 'Reporting'! Thanks are not just in order, but deserved without limit!

The mainstream media don’t have any reporters let alone journalists anymore. They have presenters, who read out ‘stories’ given to them by the news agencies. These people have no investigative skills nor inquisitive thoughts.

The modern 'left' political movement is a far right wing political movement.
(What does 'right' wing mean? Is 'left' wing merely a movement aimed at resisting 'well-defined' forms of social injustice? -- (such as the environmental protection movement, the women's movement, the 'peace' movement, the anti-nuclear weapons movement? Further than 25. Graham lives a couple of miles from me. It's closer to 50 miles away. Wigton's even further. Can't understand it all. Madness.

Wow, great report of this mindless, stupid crime- we also mourn the loss of this iconic tree, even though we have never been there- they should all do maximum punishment. best wishes from New York and West Virginia

Great coverage Eddie. Totally agree with you. Despicable and wicked act. I went back there a few weeks ago. Just not the same anymore 😪 Let's hope they have the right idiots and throw the book at them.

These people need the strongest sentence possible. There are so many historical sites that are unguarded and impossible to guard 24/7. A strong message needs to be sent that this behaviour will be taken seriously to deter any further idiots who feel like having a go at our vulnerable heritage.

They should throw away the key, if these despicable individuals are found guilty! This is the most disgraceful act of vandalism, I have ever seen.

It's a pissing tree millions of trees get cut down everyday. These artists were highlighting the hipocracy of mass deforestation.
It's one stinking tree. How is it possible that forestry companies can operate with impunity and when 2 fellas cut a tree down people are baying for blood. 😂😂😂😂😂
      It's a tree and it's gone boo hoo 😢😢😢

Show their faces. Print their addresses ,and find out where they work. Lets hope they never get employed. Superb reporting, this guy makes the BBc reporters look like novices.

The sentence should be 10 years, of 12 hours per day , 6 days per week planting trees.
