How easily you explain anything that is your charm Patrick. You can explain any complex concept in a simple way.
Great tutorial. I hadn't thought of using report and visual header tooltips in my dashboards; this has triggered some new design ideas for me that I'll be including in my next project.
Love these tips Patrick. I could watch your videos all day. You explain stuff so well. Thanks!
I loved the tips (or tool-tips). Definitely something I will be incorporating in some of my dashboard designs. You're amazing! I have learnt a lot about Power BI from your videos.
Patrick this was really helpful; I had never realized that placing measures in the tooltips area actually impacts the query efficiency. Also the report header tooltip idea was great as well
You guys are always awesome. Thank you so much for the tooltip visuals explanation.
Great video Patrick! I thought I knew everything about tooltips but you provided some creative ways to use them. Love the maps legend idea.
You guys really make THE best PowerBi video's on the net. Keep going !!
Hey Patrick, Watching your videos from last few months and they are really helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Love this video and I especially love the Header Tooltips. Brilliant stuff as always!!
Great video!! This is a very good introduction to be able to understand what Tooltips are and follow the rest of your Tooltips videos. Before this one I didn't understood what was the tooltips box for. Thanks!
Love this video of tooltips.....just had a report with tooltips today adding both visual and report tooltips......great video. Thanks for your how to and guide👍🏼👍🏼
Great video as always. Thank you! One more useful thing about tooltips is that any field you add to a tooltip can be used to sort the data on the visual.
Another great video for another innovative solution. Thank you Patrick.
Love these videos. How to create and deliver more context per visual. Huge potential.
I just want to say how awesome all your videos are. They are easy to understand and very informative. They have helped me become better at using Power Bi!
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial about tooltips. Your videos are awesome!
Nicely done! Thanks for the clarifications!
Thanks for a great video! Really helped me to add the tooltips I needed. :)
Love the idea of using visual header tooltips to provide extra information about what is being presented... def gonna use that
Thank much for video, it was really a life saver. You explained the concepts very well.
There is so much value here. Instant subscribe!
Those tool tips are awesome!
I am learning how to create powerful visualizations with PBI, and I am finding this channel very enlightening.
Ran across the Report Tool Tip capability in the Power Bi Data Analyst Cert training I was doing and thought...what?? You can do that?? Found this video and now I am so excited to use it in my reports. This is a great way to declutter the report page as well so that data can only be visible when needed. Love it, thanks for sharing!
amazing content! thanks, Patrick
Great video, as always!
Just used the Visual Header tooltip.. great idea! Thank you
I love your videos and your energy! Thanks!
Lovely thanks a lot guys you are making ppl happier.
Great video! Useful as usually!
Brilliant! Love this.
Thanks, this is a great way to use tool tips!

Patrick this tips are awesome.
This is amazing, so helpful, thank you!
Thanks Patrick, that Report tool tip is amazing 👍
Merci Patrick ;) Super job
This video was great!!! Never really understood how to use the various tooltips. My reports are going to really stand out with these in use. Thanks!
Happy it helped
useful tutorial, thank you so much to share with us
Great Video on Tooltips Patrick!
Appreciate that Balu! Thanks for watching 👊
Thanks for your awesome videos. Patrick, just wondering if it's possible to add report page tooltips to slicers??
Thanks for the video, really easy to follow. It had almost everything I needed to know :) Do you have any that go into a little more detail on the tooltip field options. I am try to have a map and when you hover over a region a specific tooltip is shown (not all the same)
Thanks a lot Patrick, great video and very useful 👍🏻
We appreciate that Raul! 👊
Hi Patrick, Great material. I have the challenge in a line chart to get a tooltip that has the cross line as you showed in your example. Marker, Name, Qty . Any hints? Thank you!
Great video again!
Question: Why can't the sync slicer method shown for visual header tooltip, be also used for report tooltip?
Thank you for this video, I love it. Can you do it again with more tables, maybe 3 o 4, and add a data table as well. I would like to understand how all that gets connected. Thanks.
Thanks! for this tip
Timely! Thank😃 you!
Very cool. Thank you
you are the legend bro ! thanks !
Awesome video as always..Keeping it simple!!! can you kindly put up some video or share something on embedding dashboards on a public link and how to use filters there. This is basically for my clients who do not have Power BI subscriptions.
Cool. Guy in a Cube has been my first daily morning news update so far. :-)
great video. Thanks for explaining. How do you get the pages options in your tooltip selection? Mine has an "auto" option only despite having multiple pages.
Awesome Patrick, can u share the dax for the Visual Header Tooltip Top 10 please?
Using but this video gave some new ideas. Cheers mate.
Great video, thank you! But how did you create the tooltip message?
Great Video!
I love custom tooltips and I like what you did with the sync slicers Patrick.
How accessible are tooltips from mobile devices and keyboard shortcuts? I have heard that is a limitation?
thank you Patrick 🙂👍
great video and great delivery style - i like it :)
Appreciate that Michael! Thanks for watching 👊
Love this guy
Another Great Video Patrick. How did you build the Tool Tip Map Legend? I have a map in a report and would like to do the same just a simple narrative and the colour bar
Thanks for the great video. Is there anyway to make a tooltip pop up and stay up when you click, rather than pop up when you hover and disappear when you stop hovering?
Brilliant!
Amazing !!
Very well explained (with some charm too!). I have a Tooltip related question which I'm hoping you can answer please. Short version: My tooltip values don't update on interactions. Long version: I have a stacked bar chart where the values displays % and the tooltip contains a number measure. When I click on a segment of the bar chart the percentage of another bar chart will update (great, I want that) however the number measure within the tooltip is not updating with it. I feel like it should just happen and I'm missing something painfully obvious - please help ! Apologies if you've already covered this in a previous video :)
Great Video thanks! How do I do the same thing, with data from 2 tables? I have a customer order table, and I have a report listing all the materials that are owing to customers. Then I want a tooltip that checks the stock table, finds the stock for the material number that I'm hovering over and shows this stock figure in the tooltip. When I do this now, I'm getting a list of other materials not related to my selected material in any way
hey Patrick, nice video! How to add additional tooltip on the table kind of visualization?
Thanks for the video. I have a question. I have a table with values and added report page tooltip. On the value the tooltip show up with information. But if table cell value is blank, the tooltip pops up but it's blank. How to avoid showing of blank tooltip popup in blank cells?
Hi Patrick.. Awesome video. Just a quick question. How the report level tool tip is dynamic? Do we need to adjust any specific settings? I mean how the page for report level tool tip is set so that it displays the tip corresponding to the element it is hovered upon. Thanks in advance
Amazing! You Guys in a Cube are THE guys in a cooooolbe! lol TKS =*
Thank you so much -
Thank youuuu!
Its great. Finally someone explain what the hell this tooltip is and how to use it. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful for you! 👊
Thanks for the video..I have one question ..Can you or anyone tell me how to add two measures in x axis and y axis in bubble chart ...
Oh the report tooltip is definitely going into my bag of tricks.
very helpful, can you explain why all my data in the tooltip box not shows (can't scroll). some text hides. how to adjust the tooltip box size or enable scroll? Thank you.
Thank you Patrick! I have a scenario wherein I have a Table and I want to show Tooltip for each column header. Is there a way to achieve it.
Hi Patrick. Is it possible to have a column-level tooltip in tables?
Thanks for the trick which I learnt from you guys and have used but just to share one "down side" that I've experienced with this tooltip is that if you left the Power BI on without refreshing the browser for a long time, the info on the main visual may not tally once information in the database changes.
Example is that the main visual shows the total number of any product type reserved and the tooltip shows the breakdown of customers who reserves the product being hovered on. There were times I realised the number on the main visual is different and after an F5 browser refresh, the number tallies. That is because the main visual does not automatically refresh if user just leave the browser on while the tooltip is always dynamic and gets the latest info from the refreshed database. Hope this makes sense and helps those who uses this trick but found discrepancies in their numbers.
Thanks for making the tooltips application so easy to understand.
I have a small Question,
if we have a drill down enabled on a visual, then can we have different tooltips for different levels. like for example, if there's a barchart for product category, which drills down to product subcategory, then i want to make a tooltip such that if i'm on category's view, I get information about the category. If i drill down to sub category's view the i should get information about the subcategory. I dont mind making seperate tooltips for the category view and the subcategory views, I just want to know if i can apply seperate tooltips for various drill down levels and if it's possible then how to apply??
Anyone know if it's possible to have the hover over tool tip stay on screen when you put your mouse over it?
I have a graph display on hover over and am hoping to have it show the individual data values on the chart when I hover over it (like what happens on the separate tab it was created on). Currently as soon as I move my mouse towards the hover over it disappears!
Hello Patrick , can we change the Lable of dynamically i want to show the percentage like X% of y amount is remaining to pay or over paid
Patrick, just watched this video and it is amazing! I have a small question that I have not found the answer to. Is it possible to remove some field from the tooltip. For example, the "Month" field in your first example, it is a value field, so by default, it is part of tooltip items. Can it, as well as the data field, be removed from the tooltip, and only show those I add to the tooltips? Thanks
@Patrick, I came across this awesome video of yours and wanted to try out Visual Headers in my current Power Desktop Version (Version: 2.117.984.0 64-bit (May 2023)) and I noticed that the Visual Headers are not available. Did Microsoft remove them?
This is awesome Patrick, thanks for explaining it.
Quick question though: Can you customise what the tooltip displays? For example: “15% out of total 120 sales were made by John”
Where percentage, volume and perdone comes from a field or measure and the wording is custom made. I’ve done this in Tableau but haven’t found a way to do it in PBI.
Thanks again.
Fernando
That's where PBI lags behind, customizing visuals! It can't be done in PBI sadly. I'm a fan of Tableau tooltips though
After watching this video, I cannot but say Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Thanks Patrick
Is there any chance to export the information poping up from the tooltip? (e.g.a visual showing amount of customers by product group and sales and users want to export a list of these customer in a special sales group)
Hi Patrick, how do I make my Tooltip filter simultaneously with my visual? For example, if I am on March, I want my tooltip to show March data, if I'm on April then April data. I made my tooltip but it is not responding to my filters. Thanks a bunch!
Awesome! Now I know how to wow my next client.
Hey Patrick i have one card with some values for which i have set units to million but using tooltip i want to see the whole value how can i do that?
Can a custom tooltip be added on a button? For example as info? I have a panel I show and hide but wondered if there was standard bi way of achieving this?
For different visuals in a report, do we need to create separate tooltip pages? one for each tooltip, or can we have multiple tooltip in only one page for the different visuals.?
Hey @patrick I need to transfer power bi service comments to sql database is it possible can you explain?
Hi ..I have a requirement of dynamical filter to choose absolute value or % to be displayed. Can you let me know if you have solution for same. For example I have a table with Location and respective employee count. In dynamic files user should see option to select value or % when they select % automatically the table shold show % of grand total instead of count of employees.
Hi Patrick..Can we see tool tip for explaining the calculations of the columns in a table. The titles and their meanings are stored in another table and this should get pulled over when we hover over the column..
what do you think of tableau? Is it more powerful than power bi?
Hey, i am not receiving any sample data to work on. Could you please share me a link to download them?
Is there anyway to remove values from a tooltip? An example is a map using latitude and longitude. There's information I'd like to include on a tooltip but the coordinates are not relevant to the user and I'd rather not clutter the tooltip with them. Thanks
Hello, do you know how to jump to last row to check whether it has "null" in the cell or not because I have 50,000 rows in my file and it takes so much time going to last row by clicking my mouse on the arrow...
