DETAINED BY POLICE IN HELSINKI FINLAND

- Today didn't go entirely as expected! Being detained by police here in Helsinki Finland is the LAST thing I thought would happen on our final day here in the city! We started our morning visiting the Rock Church, only to find out it wasn't quite yet open to the public, so we headed off to Cafe Regatta! this charming cafe is situated right on the water front just outside of downtown Helsinki. We ordered up some cinnamon buns, blueberry pie, hot chocolate, and their famous sausages with mustard! The best part is cooking the sausages over their outdoor fire. Oddly enough, it was here that Daniel was detained by police! We passed by Amos Rex, a popular art exhibit on our way back to the apartment. Helsinki has been a great city to explore and enjoy. Next stop...LAPLAND!

I love that you are in a country with snow. Your mom is a pure joy. When she gets home she needs to have her own channel. She could hire Ryler to edit it for her once a week. There is so much she could share with all of us that love her. She has raised a wonderful family and creates joy wherever she goes. Folks help Dan and Chelle get to 100,000 subscriber.
@giveaway146 Fake
I just checked the map, and I think the "restricted area" you were flying next to would be the residence of the prime minister (Kesäranta) and the president (Mäntyniemi), which are both located a few hundred meters away across the water from where you stood. Pretty bad luck.
The no drone zone starts just north of Regatta along the shore leading to Kesäranta. There are signs at the start of the zone, but someone launching their drone from Regatta would not have seen them yet.
She's currently in Australia, but she sometimes jogs there near regatta.
Yep, and in recent weeks there has been some talk in the media about possible "Russian spies" flying drones in the Nordic countries near prohibited places (due to Finland and Sweden's NATO applications).
They were just doing their job - IT wasnt anything peronal - but security first !
It is because of the Nato that Finland and Sweden aplaying.
8:08 I think very few Finns would think of calling a sausage without a bun a "hot dog", and hot dogs with a bun aren't particularly popular in Finland, so that's probably the source of their confusion. Also I'm guessing that what you call "spicy mustard" is just one of the most regular types of mustard for the locals, so perhaps they didn't think of it as spicy.
Exactly what I was going to say. Your hotdog is our sausage and spicy mustard is just regurlar to us. Most of us eat these several times in a summer, especially at cottage or hiking, but also at home if you have a grill.
But because it is so everyday thing to us, it is not easy to find from cafes or restaurants, Regatta could really be the only few places, I dont know any other.
Sausage is sausage. Wiener is wiener. Wiener inside a bread bun is a hot dog.
Why would anyone call sausage a hot dog is a mystery.
@@XtreeM_FaiL Yup, and also regular Finnish "mild mustard" as "spicy mustard", because there are also strong, spicy and very spicy versions of the mustard. 😎
I swear that Chelle and Jolene can make fun happen everywhere they land!!!
Life must be so joyful!!!
I would get confused too if someone asked about hot dogs and spicy mustard. Those are (for us) just regular cheap sausages and regular mustard, just tastes so good when its cold outside and maybe you get one at an event or you make your own at a campfire, or at home in wood oven/stove/fireplace.
Exactly. If you say the word ’hot dog’ to a finn, they will think long, thin & straight sausage inside a bread bun 😅 No wonder they couldn’t find it! Same word, different meaning
@giveaway146 Shut up
Regarding the drone incident, I don't know if this is a factor, but Finnish officials have an increased level of interest in anything involving drones due to the recent events in Ukraine and the possibility that Russia could be doing something shady in other countries as well.
We don’t call it hotdog. Hotdog for a Finn is a narrow sausage inside a bread. That’s why it took so long for you to find. It’s also kind of outdoor or cabin food, not city food. When we go a hiking trip for a day, we take sausages whit us and grill it on open fire.
I understood you are coming to Northern Finland. Here you most probably will get sausages. You can also go to the grocery store and choose from dozens of different sausages.
All over Finland, outdoor trails have been built, along which there are places to make fires where you can roast your own sausages.
I travel a lot on those routes myself. Mostly by bike these days. When traveling alone, I rarely have sausage with me, but with family or friends we almost always roast those.
I don't know where you are going in the north, but if you come here to Ylläki, you should rent an electric bike here and go riding on the snowy trails. Today I'm going again myself and I'll probably make a video too.
I just love Jolene! She has the spirit of a child! She seems like such a fun and positive person to be around! You and her have such a wonderful relationship! I have a great one with my Mom too and it's priceless, you both will remember this trip forever! I can't wait to see where you guys go next. I bet you hit 100,000 really soon!

You’ve worked to hard putting out great content, you deserve to hit 100’000
Awesome Work Guys, Thanks 👍👍👍😀 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
About the drone: there are few "no drone zones" in Helsinki and when you were at the Regatta, you were actually just barely inside of one of them. That's why the police came. Luckily police in Finland is very nice 🙂 I'm not sure why that area is no drone zone but I'm guessing it has something to do with one of Presidents official recidences being close by.
ITS Good to show that someone IS awake !
Kesäranta & Mäntyniemi
So much laughter!that’s what it’s all about!!! Keep smiling and making memories ❤
Oh my.......Daniel, do you ever feel you are babysitting Chelle and her mom?? Those two find every way possible to have/make some fun. It's so awesome!!! Reminds me of toddlers who find mischief wherever they are. Please Chelle and Jolene don't ever lose that quality!! If ya gotta get wrinkles, may they all be laugh lines!
I’m glad to see your mom enjoying some adventures with you and Daniel
Mana Jo your energy and laughter makes my day, snow angels & sliding down the snow hill so funny. I love black liquorish its delicious. Chelle I love the close bond you have with your mom its lovely to see. I'm so glad Daniel didn't get in trouble by the police. I shall look forward to your next Video.
The Suomenlinna sea fortress is actually the most visited sight in Finland, Temppeliaukio church is the 2nd most visited one. Nice video! 😊
Suomenlinna - Fortress Island - are much nicer at Summer ! Summer months - Have somuch more - that this IS average 12 months ! Note - Helsinki 24 Card - covers The 20min Ferry !
Oh so close to the 100,000 subscribers - fingers crossed x Jolene is so funny loved the back sledging really made me laugh. What a wonderful cafe experience, but not with the Police, bless poor Dan xx
Loved spending time watching you having a blast with Jolene ,the snow play was so funny ,the pizza story oh my goodness ,keep making incredible memories love you all stay safe and warm ❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The reason people didn't realize what "hot dog with spicy mustard" means is we simply call it "sausage with mustard"
When you say the sunsets at 4… it just made me feel SO small! Oh my goodness the world is just huge. I love your videos!
Usually you just don't see the sun for weeks in the early winter so you just realize greyness is little lighter at noon (when you are at work).
We had such little sun the whole time in Finland!
@@danandchelle One year it made news when we had like 3 or 4 months with no sun.
Every year in january‐february people are posting images of sun to social media with captions like "omg, alien attact", "what is happening", "my eyes hurt, take it away"
and then in the summer it barely goes below the horizon
If you ask a Finn about hot dogs, we think you are talking about the bun and sausage combo. What you ate at the Regatta, we call a sausage. And the spicy mustard is… just mustard 😄
First time viewer of the channel, had to subscribe since you are so close to the 100k and I really enjoyed the video. Happy that you enjoyed Helsinki despite the weather… Next time you should come in the summer when the sun never sets. I bet that the drone troubles were due to the proximity to the prime minister’s summer residence.
We don't call them hot dogs in finland. It's a sausage and the mildest mustard we have is "spicy" in comparison of the yellow mustard. No wonder the locals had any idea what you were after :D
Just niin. Nuotiolla kärtsätty makkara ja sinappi. A campfire-fried sausage with mustard is definitely the food your father meant. And it really is a big treat for Finns. I myself eat it whenever I find it.
Love love all your vlogs top quality again the tourist boards should be using them all !!! Great content and info love from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
Happy Friday. I hope you’re having a blessed Friday. And an Amazing day. I love watching your videos. You’re the sweetest kindest couple ever and I love your dog. I hope you’re enjoying your trip in Finland.🐶💯🆒😎🤩❤️💙🤍
You 3 are soo amazing to follow!! Love you all!!❤
The problem was you asked for a hot dog with spicy mustard. If you asked for a sausage and mustard they would have immediately known. Because that mustard is the standard Finnish mustard and we do not use the word hot dog other for sausages. In Finland the hot dog means the whole American style shebang with the bun, mustard, ketchup and dried onion.
Hello Michelle & Dannie !!!!!! My name is Agnes!!!!!! I am an extremely big fan of your Channel a lots !!!!!!! I hope you will have an amazing!!!!!
Your mother is crazy funny! Sliding down on her back. I am sure your father was watching and laughing....that's my family! Haha
Jolene is like a 20 year old. Amazing woman who loves life and has passed that on to her kids. Sending love to her on this difficult few days !
I never laughed so hard…..👍 kudos to mana Jo sledding 😂❤️ Great Vlog!
The restricted area was probably the houses of the prime minister and president, since they are quite close to cafe regatta
Watching you on a slide down the hill was funny after I realized what I thought she had fallen down You guys are hilarious together
Security is a bit stricter than ever now when it comes to drones in the nordics due to several cases of drones flying near or in restricted areas, with some verified cases involving Russian agents, or suspected Russian agents. There should be available maps of restricted areas when it comes to photography beyond no-fly zones for other cases.
You have the coolest Mum, she’s so funny and always down to have a blast!
Y’all so funny sliding down that hill loved it. Daniel getting stopped by the Cops holy moly
Love y’all you to Momma Jo.
XOXO
Oh my goodness how funny, Jolene!!! So fun.
I know why you are getting cold shoulder with your hot dog with spicy mustard! To a finn, hot dog means the product with bread and... um... a hot dog. Only one sausage type is called hot dog, rest are "makkara", sausage! 😀
Yeah we were probably confusing everyone 😂
I'm glad I found you guys, and I can't wait to see where you're going up north! Oh yes, I have subscribed as well.
Welcome!!
You guys are a riot!!! 😂😂 infectious joy !!!
The term hot dog means only wieners (nakki) with buns, no one calls any wieners (nakki) nor sausages (makkara) as hot dogs in Finland. Also American style of yellow mustard is served with the hot dogs, not the Finnish spicy one. No wonder about the confusion about it. 😅
Ps. The regular mustard in Finland is called "mild mustard" (mieto sinappi) and it's spicier compared to mustard from other countries. There are also spicier version called "strong mustard" (väkevä sinappi) and even spicier version called "spicy mustard" (tulinen sinappi) and even spicier called "really spicy mustard" (tosi tulinen sinappi). 😇
Love your mom , she is the best ❤️
loll love it Chelle we need to fact check Joelene info! old guide books too funny awesome! yes ur dad should have spoken more about somewhere warm
Glad you like Helsinki, makkara (the hot dogs), cinnamon rolls and bilberry pie 😇 I personally love licorice and salmiakki too, which is usually referred as salty licorice.
Have fun Dan and chelle Jolene on your trip love guys 🎉❤
There are multiple big signs in that area telling people not to fly drones, you just need to pay attention😜
Have fun in Roveniemi!! It's a beautiful city and Santa Clause Village is a lot of fun! Wishing you luck on seeing the Northern Lights!
You should bring your mom with you on your travels! She is so funny and a joy to see how close you guys are
good idea :)
4:20 Nooo! That is the wrong type of "black liquorice". That is just normal liquorice. Salmiakki is the one you should try.
Greetings from Vladivostok!
Cool video! You are so wonderful!
I wish you health, peace and success!❤
I was in Helsinki for the second time a few weeks before you. The church at the top,of the stairs in the square was amazing,,but I wish I had gone to the sauna.
Hey you guys . Im glad i found this video Im going to Helsinki in April. Your mom is awesome. I got a lot out of this video. Makes me wanna bring my drone.
Have fun dude! Just check for no fly zones! 😂
This is so special for you guys and for Mana Jo. We almost Doug in YT land! Hope you got new subscribers from around the fire lol Tell Mana Jo that YT loves her tons. Daniel I’m the same as you I don’t break rules but if I do I get busted instantly lol
"I'm super cold... hey, let's go roll in the snow!" 🤣
Helsinki has snow - so The YLE STATE Broadcasting Company make us - hear about IT ! This is The Only Place in Finland - Where they have " no room " for snow ! This IS as like having a headache - after drinking ! Helsinki has snow - so Rest of The country laugh - with Our EYES Only ! You know The Laughing EYES - Right ?
Nice that you have had nice time in our country. Now I'm waiting to see what you are going to do in the north. This year the snow came a little earlier than usual here on the southern coast. Statistically it's 50:50 if we have white christmas or not. I live about 25km northwest from Helsinki center.
Bro thumbs up you handled those gals greatly. Balancing love and respect
😂😂😂
Wow. Been watching you guys for so long and now you are in Helsinki where I live. 🙂
How cool!
Hi, that was a very good video and I really love your happiness, therefore I subscribed to your channel. Welcome to Finland. Could see you didn’t come to my lovely small city Porvoo! Such a pity, this is one of the oldest medieval city in Finland. If you change your plan just let me know and I will be delighted to show you places. Take care and enjoy your stay. Best regards, Pascal
Thank you!
I would follow her, if your mom had a RUclips channel! Love you guys! 🎄🦦
Awesome 😎
I love salty liquorice, it's definitely an acquired taste. You should try it ❤️
I’ve been subscribed since before you left and am subscribed to Michelle’s brothers-branden,Justin and jared
Love helsinki I finally moved to finland happy for your adventure
Awesome!
True bas ass travelers come to Finland this time of the year and enjoy it! 😂 I love your vibe, especially mom is hilarious! By the way, we do not call them hot dogs but sausages (makkara). And your dad probably meant salmiakki which is salty licorice. Would like to see your mom try Turkisk peber. She will survive anything! 😄
The drone issue was propably because that the presidents and prime ministers residents are quite close.
You should come back in June to see the opposite living conditions ("too much" light).
Another great video your so close to your goal ❤
I am so happy that Mama Jo joined you guys I love her she's pure happiness and again I'll say I know when you get your punkiness now. Thank you for taking me along on your pictures because I'll never get to these places with my health God bless you guys stay warm and safe and don't get any more police to talk to you😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤🇺🇸
The 3 of you are so awesome together You just make me laugh and Michelle is so much like her mom and dad full of wife and Bubbling Please help them get to their subscriber mark you won't regret it
I think finns didnt know the spicy mustard thing cause we just call them sausages and having mustard with them is the norm and not a special thing to do, like it's not a thing haha :D and also hotdogs are literally the buns with the hot dog in them here, so people maybe thought about them. Glad you had fun tho!
They are sensitive about drones because of the Russian incidents in Norway etc. people are on alert of drones flown near any infrastructure right now. So perhaps someone reported to the police. Apparently this is happening a lot there.
Black licorice is not the same as salmiakki/salty licorice.
Hi Ryan's mom Sam here.... I now see where Michelle get her mischievous from Jolene 🤣😅 she is as mad as a hatter 😅🤣😅 my mum was my bestfriend we did everything together I lost her in 2020 and I miss her so much so cherish these times xx
some of the sidewalks in the middle of Helsinki are heated so they dont have to plow the snow from the narrow streets.
”'!I really enjoy watching your videos l love seeing the different locations
Love you guys. I just subscribed.
Mona Jo is so funny! I love her so much! 😂❤
I think that you were too close to prime minister’s official residence ”Kesäranta” which is nearby, about 600 metres from Cafe Regatta and facing to Rajasaari island. Or if you went further to Mäntyniemi, then you were close to President’s official residence.
You guys are awesome! I just live travelling thru your eyes! Im curious, Daniel, which hot dog was better, finland or Iceland?
I think the Finnish sausages were better!
Also you were right next to our President's and Prime Minister's residents. That's why its restricted. Like around the Helsinki cathedral is right next to the government buidings and the president's "castle" and thats why there are no drone flying over there either.
Fryining sausages at open flame is definitely a thing through out Finland still this day.
Fortunately, Finnish cops are usually nice and friendly. 😄 But it's a shame that Wolt brought you broken pizzas. I usually order pizzas from a pizzeria that has its own delivery. They are usually perfect. However, it's nice that you also had good experiences in Finland. 🙂
your mom is so funny and and I love here and you both
OMG! Your mom is hysterical!
Honestly, when I saw the police....my first thought was...oh no, what did Mana Jo and Michelle do?🥴..lol.....love you guys!!!!!
So two things; If you say hotdog in Finland most people would associate that with eating a hotdog (with a bun). Second, whatever mustard you had had just looked like a standard mustard. If you tell a Finnish person you are looking for "spicy" mustard they would think you are looking for something with chili, jalapeño or something like that. We don't do the yellow sweet mustard, at all (although you can definitely find it in "american" shelves in the supermarkets)
Salt licorice is so good
Cafe Regatta is very close to our prime ministers residence, thats the reason for no fly zone for drones.
Lol. Oh the memories you are making…I can hear Papa Bingham laughing…
Oh sausage is still very much a thing everywhere in Finland, but be sure to call it sausage or we won't get it. 😅 For Finns a hot dog always means the one with a bun.
Almost 100k!!!!
Dont know if someone told allready but Prime minister official residense is near of cafe regatta, And we dont call them hotdogs😅 maybe that why no one knowed what you were asking😇
At this time of year, I'm hoping the next spot is Rovaniemi. I've only been to Finland in the late summer and you need the cold months to be in Christmasland up north.
Can I borrow your mom please? I’m an only child, my mom passed at age 64, December 15, 1998. And I miss everything. Especially her laughter and your mom is so funny, adventurous, and more. Thank you Donna
Ok, I’ve decided I’m moving to Utah so I can have Chelle and Mana Jo as my new BFF’s! It’s cold in Michigan so no big deal. LOL.. You 2 have so much fun together and I’m with you Jolene, I’ll take black licorice over any kind any day!! Daniel, I’m so glad you weren’t taken away in handcuffs! 🤦♀️ y’all continue to be safe ☺️❤️
Happy New 2023 Year ! Nice and well done video ! By visiting this Church - an (re)naming IT as Rock Church - may be a bit misleading to Those that know something about Helsinki and Finnish as a language ! As at Helsinki - part of a Helsinki stads a districkt - called KALLIO - that means ROCK in Finnish ! So this IS Not KALLIO Church - but Temppeliaukion Church ! Kallio IS More of The Free spirit - type Greenwich Village - where You may join The LOCALS - at Public sauna etc etc... Many been to Kallio - but some never see again... Have an Nice Day
