Since many dash cams have trouble picking up plates at distance, it's always a good idea to keep your microphone enabled and read the plates yourself. Gives you that extra information just in case the plates are unreadable in the footage, and worst case your readout can be used to correlate what's seen in the footage.

I would also add that you never tell the other person you have a Dashcam. If they lie to the police then it’s on record and it just makes your case stronger. Another thing; roll your window down so the Dashcam records what they say. Again, if they are caught lying it makes you look more credible to the authorities.

Thank you for these side by side video comparisons, especially the license plate clarity. I bought my first dashcam after a hit and run driver caused $4000 damage to my car and the Highway Patrol told me they could do nothing "without proof". I purchased a U1000 dual for $399 on sale after seeing how much clearer it was than my DR900S. The day it was shipped, the DR900X Plus was announced...oof. I like the form factor of the BlackVue better, so based on this new review I will replace the U1000 with the DR900X Plus. Fortunately, my U1000 install was just the front unit using an OBD tap and bought a spare attachment with 3M, so I might be able to recover 100% of my cost now that the model went back up to $499. Keep up the good and useful work!

I was recently involved in a car accident where I was rear-ended by a Mercedes. Yes they driver took off so it was a hit-and-run incident. Well yes, but the whole point of offering an LTE antenna is for when you're away from the vehicle. Otherwise most people already do use the hotspot on their phone.
For me, mine is connected to a hidden Google Fi powered nighthawk router.
I think you might be giving too much credit to the camera and cloud connectivity, however. It's not a speedy process to upload the clips, and you have very limited storage by default.
For me I I would rather get rid of the cloud component entirely... disconnect from the CCP's servers. Just store locally on a little server in my car like I already have running. Access that through VPN. The only difficult part is getting real time footage. Though the existing setup is so slow that you won't lose much by simply watching a minute-old clip from the server.

I just got this camera a couple of hours ago, for the last five years I have used one of the Garmin Dashcam‘s. But sometime last year Garmin updated their firmware where manual recordings only record 15 seconds before and after. It used to record 1.5 minutes before and 1.5 minutes after an event. Not to mention, the Garmin drive cam app is atrocious and trying to find a section of a video that I need took over an hour sometimes. So, I got this blackvue 900 X plus installed, and while I find the app and the way it sorts videos a lot more convenient and reliable, I find the video quality is subpar. The Garmin drive cam and even using a GoPro hero 7 produces better video quality when used as a drive cam. One of the main reasons I decided to go with the BlackVue was because it supports a 256GB memory card and can record up to 20 hours at the highest settings. My Garmin dash cam supports up to 512 GB and can record over 40 hours. Every other highly recommended drive cam seems to only support 128 GB and only records between 6 and 10 hours at the highest setting. I drive a semi truck, so I need some thing that will record my entire day and the BlackVue supports that need. I just wish the video quality was better, it does not seem like 4K to me.

Looked into BlendMount. There are mounting issues with the rear view mirror support mount for Dash Cams. 1) Fitting, Security, and Adjustments. 2) length as does not extend far enough. 3) aluminum construction not solid and can break. 4) excessive Vibrations resulting in blurry video recordings while driving or when the vehicle is in Parking mode that it is more sensitive to wind and slight bumps that the Dash Cam records more often than it should. 5) Picks up more glare since camera lens distance is not as close to the windshield as it should be. - A nice idea but it does no good. It is a waste of money. Please use the glue mounts that are included with your Dash cam.

The U1000 dual was $399 ($100USD off) everywhere a week or two ago. The U1000 parking mode is entirely based on ignition sense 12v, not on time stationary as you can do with the BlackVue. Also the design of the U1000 may or may not fit well visually and astetically depending on what the area around your rear view mirror is like. The U1000 also talks for about 30 seconds every time you start your car...it will ALWAYS alert you extra because it detects you closing your drivers side door as an impact. I had to completely shut off the sound becuase of this. Those are the main things I have notices changing from BlackVue to Thinkware. Google the annoying voice mode on the Thinkware.

      @@Mpostor I have the U1000 Thinkware, 900X and just got the 900X-Plus
The video from the Thinkware seems to be better during live view however it's really a pain in the ass to connect to the U1000. The 900X and Plus is pretty simple and I like the play back functions better - meaning if your driving and someone does something stupid, you have to basically pull over to connect to the U1000 but the Blackvue you can do it sitting at a light without toughing it
My U1000 is setup 24/7 with Wifi and I like connecting to it to check on it; most of the time it's easy. I have not had my Blackvue on the wifi so really not sure. Personally I really like the style of the Blackvue, the U1000 is ugly and seems outdated.
In all, just depends on how much you will play with it - if you're simply installing and forgetting, go the U1000 but if you want style and functions ? go Blackvue

Question. Can you, and how do you, in Real-Time select a period of video captured of a few minutes or so, to save for later. I understand that after a video card is full, it will typically loop or write over the earlier footage. akin to the collision feature which automatically saves about 10 mins. I want to push a button or audio command on the Blackvue to save a couple minutes before and after my command.
My goal is to save many select events while traveling in real time for later. I don't want those selected few minutes or so to be overwritten and thusly upload those files to the cloud or to my PC Can Blackvue allow me to do that, and how do I initiate that request? Do most dashcams offer this feature? I don't see this feature in any descriptions on several dashcams, is it just assumed dashcams can do this or is that a bad assumption?

I had the Blackvue DR900X-2CH Plus installed with the LTX and I am not impressed with the power arrangements. I had the dash cam professionally stalled and after the first day of use I am getting warnings that the battery in the car was drawing low. The system does not have an on/off switch. Even if you purchase the battery back, it doesn't guarantee more than 24 hrs of power. There is one other option which I wasn't aware, the BlackVue Power Magic Pro. Why this is a separate option is beyond me. I would do plenty more research before your purchase.
The LTX is a nice idea. However, you need to purchase a separate sim for the LTX to work. Do so before you have the system installed. In this fashion the sim can be installed before the LTX is attached to the windshield. Adding the sim after installation is no easy task.
I did not find the app for my smart phone to be all that impressive either. Blink was much easer to operate. Further, down loading the stored video is a pain?
Now I need to figure out the power lead so I can unplug the camera while the car is parked here at home.

Do you have a video where you discuss the legal issues of a dashcam? I have been happily running a dashcam for many years, and recently I've been thinking about the problems it could cause. For example, I routinely exceed the speed limit. This could be used against me in court, especially if my cam has GPS. If in any way involved in traffic infraction or an accident, you can not delete the video as it is evidence and can be seized, or be obtained by warrant or subpoena. Also, if you are in a two-party consent state and your dashcam gets audio of someone's conversation where they expected to have privacy... that's a crime.
    What do you think?
