Completely agree. I’ve out lived 4 of my 7 siblings because of lifestyle. One of my siblings is in nursing home with diabetes & vascular dementia now. He’s 6 years younger than me. Diabetes is supposed to be hereditary but I believe diet and lifestyle could have avoided the disease to my siblings. I’m only 71 now, I know something might jump on me but I’m doing my best. There is diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, liver disease, aneurysms, and on & on in my family medical history. I saw my siblings just accept these as fact. And I have been told I could drop from heart attack and be gone right now so don’t get uppity. It keeps me humble & serious … especially aneurysms. My mom told me right before she passed I would probably have aneurysm like she had, with heart disease. Yikes! I’m just doing my best but I think you can overcome some of these things by lifestyle, diet. I’m just absolutely thrilled to still be alive with all these diseases in my family. But please don’t accept family history like it’s FACT, it’s not a fact.

YES YOU CAN OVER COME ALL HEALTH ISSUES with a proper diet.
Many researchers believe dementia is the 3rd type of Diabetes! LOOK INTO this for your sibling.
In nursing homes most have horrific diets meal plans that they feed their patients full of refind processed carbs and sugar which is horrible for those that have dementia and Diabetes.
Many people with early stages of dementia and others who have diabetes are switching to the Carnviore diet (all meat diet) and are healing their Diabetes and getting of their Rx drugs including insulin.
PLEASE watch carnivore vids on Chans: Dr Ken berry, Shawn baker md podcast, Homestead how, kellyhogan, nutrition with judy, Dr Mindy pelz, steak and butter gal = a ton of interviews who reversed their Diabetes and other health issues and got off all their rx drugs plus lost weight.
Nursing homes are terrible for keeping people sick. It's all about money that's why the feed them the evil food pyramid food. Why do nursing homes feed their patients this junk food? IT'S CHEAP...health diet cost them more money = less profit for them. And they keep their patients all drugged up and they will never leave the facility = more money for them.
Work with your siblings that is in the nursing home and see if he is willing to change his diet. then DEMAND the nursing home change his diet. You may have to find a doctor to tell the nursing home to change the diet to carnviore .
many first transition from the Standard american junk food diet (which is what nursing homes feed their patients) to a Keto diet then on to a elimination diet of Carnviore diet. your library will have books on both keto and carnviore.
Please help your sibling. I know this is alot of work but, I have read endless testimonies of people healing their Diabetes and brain issues on carnviore diet
Shawn baker had an interview with a Nursing home owner who changed the diets off residents from standard American diet to a carnivore diet and guess what happened? YEP the elderly patients got better...the got off many of their Rx drugs and some went home.
Diet cures the body add in fasting and that really cures the body including brain issues see dr mindy pelz vids.
Wishing you & your family all the best take care.

it depends upon what your health is. if you are generally healthy, switch to whole foods. instead of processed cereal, go to unprocessed ie oats, buckwheat, etc. if short of time in the AM, you can soak these overnight, oatmeal eat as is in the AM. buckwheat, cook for a few minutes. add in other whole foods such as flax, chia, nuts, raisins. this is mostly carbs. so add protein powder. eat a hard boiled egg.
if you have metabolic problems, one should emphasize protein & fat over carbs. this translates to meat/fish, eggs, beans, nuts, or protein powders for protein. olives, nuts avocados, olive/coconut/mct oil for fat. some people have to eliminate grains or potatoes, etc. some people may just need to reduce the amount to 1/2C or 1C per meal. everyone is different. david sinclair uses a wearable glucose meter which showed he was very sensitive to white rice, white bread but not reactive to potatoes. i've made chive pancakes w/ psyllium.
i am on the thyroid autoimmune spectrum & am dealing w/ gut issues. therefore i eat no grains, potatoes, rice for breakfast now, but like hyman, add in higher carb veggies like squash & sweet potatoes. for breakfast, i eat a stir fry, stew, soup, omelette or quiche, emphasizing a protein source (i have problems w/ legumes. i did want to go vegetarian). i also emphasize vegetables. my grab & go is a nut shake (1/4C nuts, 1 scoop protein powder, 1/4C berries per cup) & cut up veggies/cherry tomatoes. i have used recipes for nut & coconut flour waffles.
i highly recommend "the Wahl's Protobol". see Hyman's YT interviews Terry Wahls. she details 3 diets which you can pick depending upon your health status. Mediterranean for pretty healthy. Paleo for middling. Keto for very ill. her diets differ from the common iterations in that she designed them for you to get almost all your nutrients from foods. hence, both her Mediterranean & Paleo recommend 9 cups of vegetables (modify this based on your BM's), 3 from the sulfur group, 3 leafy greens, 3 from colorful veggies. 6C for keto. her mediterranean can be vegetarian.
if you are an omnivore, read Hyman's book "Pegan Diet". simple explanation. it is basically Wahl's Paleo.
it takes time to work things out. have fun exploring, finding what works for you.

They have the same urges to eat it as other people. Their reservations are not emphasizing enough the importance to eat their native diet or something similar and stay away from European type foods. Not sure if your stomach problem is digestive problems. If you can find a “functional” doctor who doesn’t treat symptoms but finds out why. From my own family situation we found all our painful digestive problems need Gut Microbiome healing. If you can find a dr that understands that you’re on your way to healing. Even the bacteria in your mouth to begin digestion there.

Why would you want them to stuff themselves with even more saturated fats and carcinogens like red meat ? And no, we do not need LOTS of good fats. A little good fats is all we need, and there's good fats in fruit and veggies too. And why on earth would you recommend butter to anyone ? This is nonsense.
