It's a beautiful game to look at. Some great graphical effects and lighting. However the game isn't without its weaknesses particularly in the challenge / difficulty department. The other elephant in the room that I can't overlook is the historic issues of WM including the present batch of unfulfilled preorders. As a result I wouldn't recommend anyone preordering.

😂 didn't read the first revision. I understand why you'd be pissed at him. I certainly won't be getting anymore WM products unless it's guaranteed to arrive. Which they can't do without a trustable external party.

I'm still waiting to get mine after confirming my address a while ago (December 15th 2020), it still hasn't changed from Los Vegas (it still says shipping).

Urg I'm really concerned regarding this. I do wonder if he's raising cash from new preorders to fulfill the first run... I hope you get it soon!!!

Love the game myself - regarding difficulty, there are paths in the original mode that are genuinely difficult, it's really only the default path and the arcade mode that are easy. I think it was an odd decision to make it that way, but the main game is really the original mode, I expect arcade is just there to appease an audience that expects the game to be more like SoR. You can certainly cheese the game, and I've seen loads of people complain about that, but you could do the same in SoR and the Turtles games (the latter I think, feel-wise, this is more akin to), that's hardly unusual for a mega drive game. I think despite all the things that are clearly wrong with it, it's still overall much better than most games in the genre, especially so on the platform it's on. I don't think I could compare it to SoR 2 because I have too much nostalgia for it.

I can't fault the graphics bar the frame imbalance between sprites! Other than that graphically it's a very polished game!

What a gorgeous game! I agree the visuals have seemed a bit washed out in the videos I have seen prior to this. I am impressed by the quality seen in the video.
The sound is great as well!
Nice play though! Def no SoR2 or 3 but not bad at all, the devs did good!

I'm so glad that they made this game. The reason I like old school games is for the pixel artwork and chip tune music. If I go to the store and buy a PS5 I don't get pixel artwork or chip tune music anymore........ its just hyper realistic games which push millions of polygons.

I made that mistake (regards difficulty) - the Original Mode plays much harder vs Arcade. Especially as you unlock thrones and work on different routes later. I found I just could not complete the 3rd throne route at all and end up deleting my save and starting again. As you play more of Original Mode, you start to realise how big the game is - loads of secrets, 3 or more unlockable characters. Various endings depending on which areas you've throned. Secret sections, shortcuts, mini game etc. Originally I thought it was too easy and wasn't as good as the Streets of Rage games. If you put nostalgia aside and cover more of the game - it's amazing and I think it is better than those other games in scale and content. The AI could be better, and there could be more frames of animation in places.

I really wish retrobit/castlemania games/limited run games could help them put this game out for real. If it wasn’t soo damn shady, I’d buy a copy all day.

It's got positives and negatives. I guess it's 8 year development cycle could have seen them tighten the character AI up a bit.

  • @TwoBlackMarks

I have not played it, but overall it looks like a very impressive game, and sometimes a not so hard game is fine, especially if it has a lot of pathways and possibilities, like Paprium seems to have. Some people get really discouraged to keep playing if it is too hard, I would say especially if you introduce new people to an old console, so those will probably have much more fun with a game like Paprium than, Comix Zone, Alien Soldier, Kid Chameleon etc.
While I sometimes like hard games, so I die, die, die and eventually get better, sometimes it is OK with an easier game.

Is it aimed at new gamers, I guess not, especially with the price and the whole PR stuff.
I am thinking about buying it though, but 130$ is a lot, especially with the uncertainty around delivery time.
The price, while a bit steep, is nothing compared to the accumulated $$ I have spent on games (or other crap) the last 25 years, this game atleast will maybe hold its value better than other stuff. And it IS a bit more fancy cart than just a "plain" 8 MegaBit rom.
(Virtua Racing was very expensive when new!)

    • @RetroSegaDev
      @RetroSegaDev  3 года назад +1

You make some really good points regarding difficulty. I guess for me SoR2 and SoR3 are games I continually return to play because they're rounded games. Paprium is something I'd unlock everything on and then only return to admire for the art and sound and not the gameplay. Which is a real shame as it could have been so much more!
Pricing is presently ridiculous you can purchase the European edition for $339 off the wm site or the other editions for around $169
      46. I wouldn't purchase it at those prices $135 is my limit.
Even if I would the problem boils down to trust. Can I trust WM not to take 8 years to deliver after purchase?

@@RetroSegaDev I love SoR 2+3. Yeah, with "some better" cooperation and some tuning on some issues it is a good case of "what could have been", I do not know anything in programming so I do not know how hard it would be changing that stuff or what it could or may introduce of new issues in one area, when you fix something in another.
I was just surprised when it actually, suddenly, came out.
It is probably a case of running out of time and money, together with/because of poor planning, big visions, high expectations and in the end just too big of a bite than you can swallow. But it somewhow managed to get completed anyway, not without issues. But, all in all, an impressive game.
The price for the universal "Classic (JUE)" is 129$ when I check, I would no way buy the other editions. Based on price alone.
Yeah, it is that uncertainty around the when/if will you get it though, that`s one of my main concerns, also the custom chip, how long does that last? The SVP chip in Virtua Racing still works I guess, so does most older chips in pretty old stuff.
Tha Grand Stick looks impressive too.
I see you can use PayPal again though, on a sidenote i 100% believe the PayPal troubles, I cannot understand how a private company can have such an monopoly on checkout payments on the whole internet, many people have had trouble with them, myself included. But that is a whole other chapter... :D
