Yeah, Saturn & Playstation were already out by the time my sister & I got our own. All the other kids on the street had one though, so got to play plenty of different games throughout. Only one with the Mega-CD though. But they had plenty of games for that too, so we even got to play those too!
Woo! Thank 😂 I'm not sure whether this video will do as well as my others but wanted to do something a tad different! The question is did you fall for the fake count down? Lol
I was a SNES kid! My brother begged for one for Christmas, and my parents, after having bought a 2600, 7800, and NES, said "we're not buying you any more video game systems!" Luckily, our grandmother bought it for us! I wasn't really even aware of the Genesis until Sonic the Hedgehog came out and Sega started making those "blast processing" commercials. I was intrigued, and always a little bit jealous of how cool Sonic looked, but I knew few other kids who had a Genesis, so I didn't have a chance to play it much. The Genesis audio always seemed quite poor compared to the SNES and I never liked the controllers as much, either. I'll admit that FM audio is an acquired taste, and hearing it in so many PC games later on conditioned my brain to finally appreciate it. I have a Genesis model 1 that someone gave to me at some point in my adult life. There are a lot of things I appreciate about the Genesis, like the 68000 CPU (I really wish the SNES had used one!), but I remain a SNES fanboy. There are just too many games I grew up with on that platform that I can't play anywhere else. The Genesis, however, has stood the test of time much better than the SNES in terms of compelling hardware for retro game programmers and homebrew, I think. Nice trip down memory lane! Always interesting to hear people's stories!
Ha it's actually great to see I have some Nintendo fans here and aren't grandparents great? 😁 I tend to agree with your comments on FM. It's not to everyone's taste and I do find it jarring sometimes when used badly! Poor instruments can make a track sound horrendous!
@@RetroSegaDev I love your channel! Love seeing the stuff you cover, the homebrew and technical stuff, and I'm fascinated by older console hardware. I'd like to get into coding some stuff myself!
Fun video! My first Sega system was the Sega System. My earliest memories were my Dad stomping me in soccer. My first Genesis game was Altered Beast and I was blown away - I thought it WAS the Arcade Game!
@@RetroSegaDev well I loved my Master System so much I just had to have the new Sega Genesis with pack-in of Altered Beast so I begged my parents and believed I got it as a Christmas present. It helped that I'm an only child lol
I don't think Sony Imagesoft had anything to do with the production of Sewer Shark. Maybe they were a publisher in Europe. I don't think they did so in North America.
I got my Sega back in 1995 or 1996, quite late in its lifespan. The first game I had was Comix Zone - quite a brutal introduction to the system, heh :D But since the game was so awesome and I had nothing to play anyway, I eventually managed to beat it :D
@@RetroSegaDev Even though I'd eventually gotten really good at the game, I still wasn't able to complete it on every playthrough :D My estimate is that I got the bad ending in 50% of playthroughs, the good one in 30% and got a game over screen in the remaining 20% :D
What are your first memories of owning a Sega console? P.s I wanted to note that I know Sony Imagesoft and Sony PlayStation were totally different it just amuses me they both stem from Sony in the first place!
I got Master System in 1989, then a Game Gear 1991, a Mega Drive in 1992 and a Mega CD in 1993...And then a Saturn 1995 and a Dream Cast around 2000 ( I think)..Ufff....The only Sega console I didn't have was the 32X...From the consoles I mentioned, I still have got the SMS, MD and GG....By the way: My first console was an Atari 2600 in 1983 :-)
@@RetroSegaDev My favourite...Hard to say that, hehe! Every console has got something special...But despite loving my SMS, I believe the Mega Drive was "the console that blown my mind". I got speechless the first time I saw it! :-)
Wow! FMV games really were... not very good. I remember seeing a screenshot of Night Trap in Dragon magazine and being intrigued, but only because the lass was in a bra. Or strappy top. Or something. I was fifteen at the time.
Really enjoyed your life story great video.
Sega 4 Life 👍🕹

Oh thanks 😊 SGDK stuff is a really good place to start. Definitely worth a dabble if you fancy learning some code.
rocket knight adventures was the smartest purchasing decision you made in 1995.

I didn't appreciate the more subtle improvements of Mortal Kombat 1 on Sega CD until the Digital Foundry video on all of the ports lol

Nah it was more that it was Sony in general 😁
