You don't just learn MMA for a few years at the weekends then step into the Octagon against a beast like McGregor, the difference between what McGregor did and what Mayweather would be doing is Mac actually used his boxing skills and refined them in the octagon even though it was not pure boxing and on top of this trained in boxing since the age of like 14, it doesn't matter how much BJJ you learn in the span of a few years when a pro elite MMA fighter is on you not only waiting for you to make one tiny mistake so they can strangle you or break/dislocate your limbs but are also at the same time caving in your skull with elbows into your face and eye sockets you pretty quickly are going to forget whatever fundamentals you learned and panic. You need to fight in the octagon to develop those skills, not just mimic it in practice gyms as if that is real preparation. And I didn't even begin to talk about the clinch/elbows/kicking/knees aspect of the standup, and McGregor has elite kicks as well as boxing.
