As a bit of a fun fact, the Legends of Wrestling game series was originally supposed to be an ECW game series but WWE bought ECW so closing their doors this coming up with the Legends of Wrestling series. While the gameplay wasn’t all that, in terms of this game, Legends of Wrestling 2, I personally felt this was the best one of the series. I liked the soundtrack, they even had rules where you can make the matches antigravity, slow-mo, speed, etc, plus a way to get coins aside from winning matches within story mode is you can gamble for coins in which could be used for certain unlockables. Some unlockables are thru coins or some are exclusive to where you have to play a certain territory with story mode to get certain wrestlers.

Plus you wanna know why RVD and Sabu were in the 1st legends of wrestling, they were included in the game because at the time, it was gonna be an ECW game but once WWF bought the rights in 2000, closing the doors for ECW, Acclaim games, decided to change the game into a game about Wrestling Legends. So since at the time, RVD wasn’t exclusively signed to WWE during the alliance days thus allowing RVD to appear in the late 2001 game. Sabu was able to anyway since he wasn’t really WWE at the time thus leading him to appear in all 3 games while RVD only appeared the 1st one since he signed to WWE later.

After this series of games, no matter how good or bad they were, WWE put the SMASH on this and games like it by signing Legends deals and putting Legends into their games.
I still remember WWF/E putting the Road Warriors R.I.P into Smackdown Here Comes The Pain. And others (but they're my All-Time favorite Tag-Team).
After Showdown Legends of Wrestling 3, WWF/E really made sure Legends weren't on any other video game for a long, long time.
Sure, there was a TNA and AAA Pro-Wrestling video games in the U.S., but WWE was not allowing any games like this with stacked Legends rosters anymore.

The game moved and played like WWF Attitude and Warzone. Never really was a fan of it but liked the fact that the legends got some love
Moved like warzone, not so much played like it. The grappling system was good on paper, not great in execution. The reversals though, excellent idea eventually used in much later wwe games.
Showdown LOW looked and sounded the best but the gamplay sucked because they dumbed down the grappling system, ruined how finishers worked, and the CAS was garbage on terms of simply selecting colors on hair. LOW 2 was the best of the three. Wasn't great, but had lots of ambitious ideas that just all fell flat, but coul have been great if a better gameplay system was made and more polished

I've been playing the carrer mode for Hulk Hogan and Dynamite Kid. The reason for that is if you play and complete the career mode with Hulk Hogan, you unlock Bruno Sammartino. With Dynamite Kid, you unlock British Bulldog.
I've already completed Bret Hart's career to get Owen Hart.
A little tip for people who want to play this game. If you go into a storyline to be a part of a tag team, be prepared for a massive difficulty spike.
I think that’s why it was called Legends of Wrestling. I don’t think it mattered what company they was with. Love the content bro, keep that grind goin. Much love

I remember renting this from blockbuster and not knowing who like 90% of the roster was. So I created Randy Orton and gave him a cutter as a finisher and played as the Legend Killer gimmick lol
9:05 It wasn't that he wasnt with WCW or ECW it wasn't like now ,back then there were things called "territories" like mid south wrestling and what happened was Vince McMahon senior started buying all of these territories.. he did it by simply buying the talent out which results in inevitably the territory collapsing and having to sell...long story short Vince McMahon bought all of the territories and was the only top dog until Ted Turner decided he wanted to compete and managed to buy one of the few remaining territories.. then it became WWF and WCW as a corporation war... But first Vince bought the entire competition.
No actually,Vince Sr didn't want to touch the regional promotions. When Vince Jr took over, he started buying all the regional promotions out.

Every wrestling game that has authentic wrestler names and likeness is tied to the company. It’s illegal to do that on its own without having licensing.

I think one of the Von Erics signed for a short period with the WWF, but they are NWA and ECW before it became Extreme and not East, I could be wrong though... The Von Erics are legend of just wrestling. They wrestle in all promotions and made an impact.

35:00 I'll tell u wat u do, do a one v one and when the match starts don't look at the wrestlers.. don't look at anything but your name bar and just practice reversing everything. Don't worry about offense just do one mach like this and you'll have the reverse stuff down np. Of course u won't win but that's not the goal the goal is to reverse

Showdown is the best to me the move set is insane. But the acclaim games are rough gameplay wise edit: at the time all of the legends were free agents working indies so this was passion project of sorts from acclaimed.

Another thing, you may notice that with entrance music, some are made for just the game, some were inspired by actual songs whether it’s based on the actual wrestlers songs or if you have someone like Hogan, some may be able to get themes from irl. Hogan has his WCW theme, American Made. I’ll say tho, some theme songs are hilarious, cool, unique or huh. Terry Funks theme is probably the best one. For funny, Sid Vicious theme was random af. and there’s others

Barron Von Raschke was literally my grandparents neighbor. His finisher was the “The Claw” supper nice guy. After he retired from wrestling he was substitute teacher and bus driver for our town lol.
Just came across this channel and subbed. Me and my brothers grew up in Texas and watched World Class every Saturday. I remember when he came back from the Sportatorium one night and was excited about Mike Von Erich making his debut.

As an avid wrestling game player of the past, these are some of my favorite games.. i played 1 and when i got to two i already had the controls down packed! Certain moves have longer times to reverse than others for sure! Showdown was REALLYYY GOOD too!
Its for sure a learning curve because most newer wrestling games from SVR forward are all about hitting the reverse as soon as you grapple or strike.. where this was more of a “feel” on when to reverse.. almost a muscle memory kinda thing 😂😂 it gets to a point you dont even have to look at the meter frfr
The game is hard the controls can be sluggish at time and take time to get use to… and try turning the difficulty down while you practice and fyi the sheik is Sabu’s uncle.
The controller scheme was so ass on this game! I would create a superstar and host custom referee tag matches where I would grief the other CPU wrestlers (and get my ass kicked in the process lol).
The roster is certainly the best of its time period. Loved seeing Eddie Guerrero in this game when it released. I remember asking my pop to rent video games and this was one of my first picks in '03.
It’s wild they had the entire von Erich family in this game when all but Kevin died in 1993 but they were only in a couple other games after that and now memorialized in the game

I remember playing “no mercy”. When I saw Legends of Wrestling I immediately bought it. Want to say for the PS2. I played it for like 7 minutes and cut it off, hooked my 64 back up and played No mercy
This was one of my favorite games. Not so much the gameplay, rather the roster of classics. I'm 43 and these guys were my heroes! I still have over 100 VHS tapes full of old WWF,WCW,NWA and many other federations. Now I just need a VCR to watch them! 😅

Legend has it that the original Legends of Wrestling was supposed to be the next ECW game but once they went out of business the engine was used to make these games. Probably explains why Sabu and RVD were in the game.

The original game was said to have barbed wire rope and scaffold matches and neither happened. Legends of Wrestling 2 was eh but included more match types. Showdown: Legends of Wrestling, the third game in the series, was actually a lot of fun

Great game. I sunk hours of gameplay into it back in the day. I really liked the career mode (though it was difficult). The roster was great and I enjoyed the reversal system. My dad and I would bond over it, playing ladder matches. He would usually pick Roddy Piper as that was his favorite wrestler. Also, it had a banging soundtrack featuring the likes of TRAPT and The Used. Good stuff. Glad to see you enjoyed it, as well!

I love LOW2. My only complaint is that movesets are lacking.
Oh and the reason Eddie was on LOW was because he was fired by WWE and he signed a deal with the game makers to be on here. And then a little bit later he resigned with WWE.
There is no specific wrestling company for the game. Its basically about the old days and territories.
This is a game mostly featuring stars of the 70s and 80s . Most wrestled for vinces dad and in the territories before wwe took them over in the mid 80s

Legends of Wrestling was just that, the game's storylines where based on the Regional Promotions. But the game it self had no affiliation with any Promotions.

The von Eric’s and Baron Von all use the iron claw fritz invented the hold the baron stole that move later since then it’s bin mainly used by German wrestlers . The last locked guy after the last von Eric is Captain Lou Albano . In legends of wrestling show down the roster is unlocked from the beginning.

Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert was ECW's booker before they were Extreme and memphis legend, then the Nasty Boys Knobbs and Saggs are the locked characters. Lots of wrestlers are from the 80s and 90s. Sid Vicious was Sid Justice and wrestled Hogan in wrestlemania 7, then came back to wwf in mid 90s as Sycho Sid. He also attacked Arn Anderson with a pair of scissors when he was in wcw, Sid was also a 4 horseman

That game was soooo good. It was nice to have a wrestling game separate from WWE Smackdown Vs Raw at the time. I'm not saying it was as good as Here comes the pain, only that it was refreshing to have something different and fun.
