just be sure to map the discs so you don't scramble them. i accidentally dropped the disc stack on the floor once, it takes a while getting the discs in the correct order.

The interactive element was added to key only to workaround French patent system where Abloy failed to get patent for the key design because you cannot get French patent for a design that has zero moving parts. And because Abloy sells the idea that the blank keys are patented and that's the part of their lock security they MUST have the worldwide patent for the blank keys. Compared to the rest of the core this interactive element is forced to contain springs that may fail whereas classic Abloy lock core didn't need any springs or bending parts.
Excellent teardown -- a bit more detailed in your explanation than in the gutting after your masterful pick of this same padlock. Gutting the Protec II I have, I am amazed at the precision manufacturing tolerances of this design compared to earlier Abloy's. (And yes, DON'T scramble the discs, or it just becomes a tedious puzzle).
i was assembling this thing back after i gutted it, and i managed to knock it over and drop all the discs on the floor. its a very time consuming puzzle indeed
What kind of dimension does the sidebar with the L end have? And what's the outer diameter of the rotating core? Do you think it would be possible to break the rotating core or the sidebar simply by having enough torque on a blank key? (Or a blank key -like tool manufactured from some high strength metal in general.)

they folks that work there assemble these things really quick, but i do think they use machines for the most part.

Your a lot braver than me,I haven't mastered gutting on theses locks so Nope not going to gut it till I have someone by my side first
just record the first time you do it so you don't mess up the disc order. if you just copy what i did here you will be fine.

No, abloy knows of this. You can do it if you heat it up very hot however.
