^^ not everything is a castle here in Germany because we would use different words for different styles in which they were builded...
Here in Germany we would differ between eine Burg and ein Schloss but in English both words get only translated as castle 🙄 and then we would also have the word Palast that would mean palace 🤷

There are some beautiful parts of Germany, but in general, as a German I feel most of our landscapes are really boring compared to the breathtaking landscapes on other continents. Not only did German-speaking Prussian lands once extends as far east as Königsberg/Kaliningrad all along the Baltic Sea and the Danube river, but those are no longer part of today's Germany. And most of the country and its forests have been extensively used and moulded by agriculture and forestry since Roman times. There's, like, one small "Urwald" (primeval forest) left and its under nature protection. And our North Sea coast with its small islands and the Baltic Sea coast are not as majestic as i.e. the French Bretonic coast or the Atlantic coast.

But I think America has a lot of very interesting places to visit we would never be able to see in Europe.
So every country, every continent has it's special history and nature.

4:15 It depends. What is a castle to you? The estimation for castles originally used as fortification or (in the broadest sense) military buildings is about 25,000 - that includes some ruins, but not palaces built for representative or governmental purposes (except for some (re)built in the 19th century in "medieval" romantic style like Burg Hohenzollern (1:29) or Schloss Neuschwanstein (1:04) and some others) or e.g. abbeys which were repurposed in the 19th century as palaces, army barracks or infirmaries or e.g. municipal fortifications.

Some are rather new (200-300 years old) while others are over a 1000 years old, like for example the castle in my city which was build around 800 AD in order to withstand the attacks of the vikings. 😄
And concerning the islands: Germany has 77 islands. The biggest island of Germany is Rügen in the Baltic Sea. The biggest German island in the North Sea is Sylt. 😄

The war didn't destroy as much as we think.
After war, 80% of industry was still in good shape.
That's why (west) Germany was able to produce again really fast.
Some towns and areas were really blown away. That' s right.
Ruhrgebiet, Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt, Nürnberg and some others really got full package.
But many parts of the land were still ok.
Also the rebuilt was really successful.
Many "concrete-sins" from the 60s are corrected meanwhile.
And look at Dresden, as sample.
Dresden is a real treasure today :)

Hey my friend. I was born in Germany and grew up there since 1981. One of the reasons why we have so many castles and similar fortifications is because of our history. The Germany of today was preceded by a period of time known as the Middle Ages that was characterized by noble families, their possessions and the people who lived there. During the so-called feudalism, those people were just as much property of the sovereigns as the land on which they lived. The central point was usually the castle of the respective nobleman. A castle that was both a symbol of his power and the place where he lived. There were many noble families and the number of castles was correspondingly large. A few could even afford to own more than one castle. The castles that can be seen in Germany today date back to this early historical period.

In this time they had a lot of wars and many different peoples. And this you will find also today with the castles and the diffrent accents and dialects and architectures.
