    Now there's a piece of inspired artistry! Like the sculptor who was once asked how he could carve such realistic horses; "That's easy", he said, "I just cut away everything that doesn't look like a horse." And so you, take a piece of discarded automotive spring, take away the dross, do some heating, hammering, grinding and polishing and hey presto! A beautiful blade.

    Awesome work, love the vids man, like I said I’m going to get into making my own blades and I’m learning everything I can from all over, just curious why you bake the knife after quenching?

    • @FarawayForge
      @FarawayForge  3 года назад +7

      That's called tempering, it relaxes the steel to make it less brittle after the quench. The time and temperature vary drastically for different steels, look it up there is a ton of information about the process online. Give it a shot, it's a fun craft!

    • @fuzzyhair321
      @fuzzyhair321 2 года назад

      Well honestly that line is very hard to maintain, especially when using power tools. Grind lines are pretty tricky to keep clean in general, no wonder they used to polish all surfaces meticulously by hand. Use any kind of rotary tool and the transition between two flat surfaces will get rounded and blurred and lose all that nice aesthetic value.
