I was the programmer and head writer for this game- thank you so much for playing!! To motivate myself during writing this game, I'd sometimes imagine how you would say some lines, so hearing you actually reading them out loud is a bit surreal. I'm so glad you enjoyed the game! ^_^

This game's a feast for the eyes - love the muted, but bright colors and cute characters with macabre themes. So energetic, so stylish!
The design is suprisingly good. It's not even inspired by eastern artstyles and still very stylized. You love to see it.

Yeah. At least include a name tag or a "(name): " thing. I kept getting confused on who's talking
the letter typing sounds actually differ from each other; Pearl, Grizz and Brandon each had different sounds but I do agree it was hard to tell anyways...
I definitely agree. While you *can* tell the difference by the sound of their text when it comes out (Grizz has a deeper sound than Pearl, for example), it's not noticeable enough to clearly discriminate the characters.

Grizz as she seems not bothered by being caught by the police she probably thinking more of it as her normal life. Like her life is as normal as they other people she kills she just do it for no reason at all as if it normal life routine

Ah yes, the backroom. A magical place where every customer thinks employees have an infinite amount of product. Clearly the creators are familiar with retail work.
Even though somehow just ONE limited edition beer case was left by some miraculous reason. Not complaining about it. Just think it's funny because through my years of retail, we NEVER had the items our customers were asking for in the back.
Manly said "Christmas is over, it is now Halloween again," and I'm here for it.
Instructions unclear, Christmas has now been ended and Halloween has been extended to encompass the whole year.

I really could have done with Pearl being toned down (probably around the time the reality of the situation hit her) or having her death not be treated as a bad end. She was way too "quirky" for the MC to reliably care about her well being like that.
@@aliceiscalling The main character didn't want to kill her to begin with. and the impact is going to be a lot bigger with someone you interacted with than a stranger.
Also given that game over I don't think she was too worried about getting caught. even more so when realistically the alternative was death with info she had to work with.

I think grizz is female. They kept calling her ma’am . And there’s other things that were said too. Like at the end “(saying excitedly under *her* breath)” pearl wouldn’t say anything under her breath, I think that was grizz’s line. That’s cool.

My only gripe with Grizz is just the design, it really doesn't convey her being female, now I'm not saying it's bad, there are some cases where a female genuinely doesn't look female, but... It is what it is, the game is definitely silly and the characters personalities work off each other in a... Weird but quirky good way.

After the guy went to the toilet I assumed he was still in there afterwards and that you had to go check on him during those free-roam parts or else he'd find out about the murder, guess not. There really weren't any secrets to find during those either huh?

The fire wouldn’t destroy the bodies properly. Possibly making them less identifiable. There would be bone fragments still and more than likely someone may find bones fragments where the bear trap was. Two bodies found would be very suspicious.
Yeah, and there'll be evidence of the gas everywhere! The police will probably know who was working right then, so Bear will be caught anyways.
@@CometsarecoolI mean that's why pearl said "not hidden anymore" right? It was probably enough to avoid getting caught but her (Grizz's( actual name is probably out there. Pearl is probably fine, and maybe helps Grizz hide from law enforcement.
Bones yes but especially dental. Teeth are specifically identifiable individually. I watched the show bones with my mom hehe
@@Proditum-dt4vz I'm no expert but I'd imagine teeth would be like fingerprints in that maybe they'd know they were present but all the unique identification would be scrubbed away in the blast.
Either way, if anyone at all knew Brandon had gone to the station to look for Courtney (which is far from unlikely considering her had both stopped there multiple times and had conversed with others on that day in regards to her whereabouts) it'd be pretty easy to deduce that he was one of the victims, regardless of his body's status.
Realistically, it's actually surprisingly difficult to get a gas station to explode, as nearly all of the gas is stored in underground tanks with no oxygen; it's unlikely the duo's trick would have done anything more than burn the station down. If it did end up exploding, it would certainly pulverize the bodies beyond recognition - but would also almost certainly kill Pearl and Bear based on their proximity. Further assuming the explosion was unrealistically localized enough to devastate the station with minimal excess destruction, perhaps authorities would be able to find evidence of casualties (which would not be unexpected), but it would almost certainly be unidentifiable as an intentional murder (of course assuming there were no witnesses).
I mean if a part of the hatchet was left near brandon they might think that brandon killed courtney (as it would just be a dismembered charred corpse) and died trying to cover it up by getting stuck in a bear trap (that the store owner already owned) while trying to burn the building down and possibly dropping the match

Not being rude by the way, it's completely fair of me to say this. I don't even mind it if it's done somewhat tastefully and has an in-universe explanation, but the fact is that if you want "tall broad women in games" then there's already more than you'll ever need.
Yet another horror-themed game where I have to stop watching a few minutes into the video... because it looks so good I want to play and experience it for myself! But don't worry, this usually only happens every ten videos or so, I watch the rest of them always to the end.

Im not scared to say it Pearl was annoying. Theres a fine line you have to walk when it comes to the "bubble outcast". It felt like the story was struggling to make me feel sympathy for her. Like it wanted Pearl to be seen as "misunderstood" true crime obessed girlie. When it just came across as true crime obessed girlie who would 100 exploit someone dead family member for views. I was waiting for her to grow on me and she didn't :/.
Bear tho worked prefectly I liked bear. I feel like they flirtied with the idea of giving her a deeper story. Ya know following the route of sympathic killer. But in the end i liked the fact Bear had no reason. It almost seemed like they did it because it was convenient. Which would have been a take, you don't see often in these types of games. I honestly wanted to know more about them.
The art and the story all seem to come together prefectly tho. Its as if the story and art was holding hands that how good it is.

@@iconica9516 Yeah! I thought we were gonna have a real moment. Where bear was saying "I never wanted to get involve with people like you because you always want to be seen." (paraphrasing the line). Bear points out how attention seeking Pearl is etc. I thought for at least a second they were gonna pull a Bear can understand Pearl in a backwards type of way. Bear is the opposite of everything pearl is so in turn pearl learns how to chill the fuck out. But no! It never happens Bear stays the same and doesn't show any real strong feeling towards Pearl other than tolerance and convenience.
I also kept waiting for Bear to turn around and Kill Pearl. Cause at every turn pearl was making shit difficult.
To be fair, Grizz did immediately say they were going to kill Pearl later and just recognized that a loony fan would be at least temporarily useful in their current circumstances.

I really like the art style in this game, especially Pearl's. The design is very distinctive and cute. I agree that the story isn't anything special, but the art definitely elevates the game beyond what it is.
It kinda reminds me of some mid-2000s cartoons, just way more darker.
It looks like a mix between Rhythm heaven's cartoon style and something stolen from that weird internet show with the red people I keep seeing stuff somewhere

I agree about the art and music elevating the writing. I think it slowed because of the boyfriend's dialogue which needed a bit of tightening and probably one too many customers. The guy in the bathroom was forgotten about, and one or two others would not have been missed. Otherwise I liked Grizz. Pearl was almost too obnoxious, but all together this worked pretty well.
I like how everyone assume the piss guy never got out and probably burned to death in the true ending instead of getting out off screen shortly after his event
@@letsreadtextbook1687 I don't know what happened to him. Tbh, he wasn't important enough to care about. He was never mentioned again, which made me wonder why he was inserted in the first place. I think there might have been some gag planned about the guy, but it's like that whole plot point was dropped? And he was featured on the magazine, so maybe it was just a nod to the music composer for the game.

You know, I am willing to bet this exact situation has happened quite a lot since there ARE serial killers that still haven't been caught to this day, even ones as recent as 10-20 years ago. Parasocial relationships are one hell of a drug and some people are willing to do everything to please their "idol"
WOW I'm so happy you played this Manly! It came out a while ago and I played it and thought how is this game not huge??? Actually such a fun duo to listen to and the jokes and gameplay are really good as well! I'm personally hoping for a sequel from the devs cuz this game was such a hidden gem!

Apprechiate that you covered your mouth whenever Grizz talked, because of her mask. Adds to the atmosphere.
This game is really charming, I really liked the artstyle. I enjoyed the writing, but sometimes it was a little hard to tell where the story with Grizz and Pearl was going. It was also sometimes a bit hard to tell who was talking in the cutscenes.
Pearl being so insufferable she's less likable than a serial killer makes me question why the ending where she dies is ""bad.""

I think the dev accidentally mixed the "pearl stays alive and happy" ending name and the "pearl dies" ending text up
I really like Pearl as a character, it's just that her role in the story didn't suit her. She's an attention-craving true crime junkie, so of course she'd latch onto an actual serial killer when she finds one. The story should've ended with Bear killing her because she can't be trusted not to talk, her usefulness doesn't outweigh how incompetent she can be, and Bear doesn't seem to need friends. Right before he buries the hatchet in her head, she realizes just how in over her head she was in this whole situation.

The only caveat is that the programmer/writer are separate meaning the nice art and music are not from the same person.
@@postman6553 I wouldn't go that far. Pearl's meant to be a source of black comedy with how comically awful she acts, so I actually enjoy most of her writing. It's just that the writer missed the mark with her endings, because she doesn't really change at all. I think that if there had been one ending where she gets her comeuppance at Bear's hands, or realizes how messed up she acts, it would have been way better. The players who dislike her get the chance to kill her, and the players who like her get to see her team up with Bear.

Great art, shockingly good music, some amusing writing. Lots to enjoy here, be it the silly talks with the customers or the proper story. The ending variety is nice too, I feel they line up well enough with what you got to do to unlock them in the first place.
Oh Manly, I appreciate you beary much. Yesterday was killer, today was a grizzly mess, but it's such a treat to sit down at the end of a long day and watch your videos. And I apologize for the bear puns, I know they're polar-izing, but bear with me, I know my sense of humor is unbearable.

I loved how Grizz is just a gal (I'm sure that's the case) that happens to work in murder, while Pearl is just a beyond "quirky" deuteragonist. The moments where the two characters stop to interact I enjoy a lot. Thanks for covering this one, Manly!

3 minutes in and I can tell someone on the Dev team has worked customer service, the old "I'll go into the backroom to pretend to check for that thing I know we don't have" technique never fails.
this was actully so cute, the sprites and arrt were so crisp and eye catching and clean!!! the music was fantastic as well, with little customer minigames to even out the dialogue. this is a great short game.
I use to work for Florida DOC and this game remind me of how this woman left her husband in New York to be with this inmate she saw on the TV.

To be honest with you, Manly, Pearl should’ve never trusted that bear of a serial killer.
Surprisingly wholesome for a horror game, and I definitely agree that the art and music really make it special. It was overall pretty neat, and you did a very nice job voicing it.

this game art style is amazing it's cute and I want more games from the dev the character sprites are every expressive even if the other always where a mask, my favorites are when they have that glowing eye cause i feel like for grizz it shows the most of her murderous intent to stab tf outta the person she chasing and looks awesome, but for pearl it more like her seeing an opening to kill someone like she been waiting for this but isn't sure if she should go through with it

Manly, I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I've been following you for years now, the first video of yours I watched was the Parsnip Rabbit one. Your voice and narration is amazing, and the fact that you actually take time to enjoy the game, and offer some nice commentary is refreshing compared to those other youtubers who take up half the screen with their face, and scream all the time, taking away from the experience of the game. With you Manly, I really feel like I'm playing the game myself or with a really good friend. Thanks for all your videos and keep up the amazing work!

The third ending honestly seemed a little out of pace with the other two. Like, with those ones, you got hints of grizz' backstory, that the killings started as an accident, that she was never really into it, that it just became her life and normalcy.
You got a deeper understanding of who she was, and mote importantly, why she was putting up with Pearl.
I was kinda hoping to see more of that in the "good" ending, especially since it kinda seems like its the only ending where Grizz may still a serial killer (hence the parenthesis on "good".) Instead, it just kinda... Ended.
Like, the whole third ending definitely had more rushed vibes then the other two, admittedly, but the lack of any sort of continuation of the apathetic serial killer arc really just makes the game feel incomplete.
I feel like there was an interesting story about an accidental serial killer apathetic for her work gaining some true passion for killing after coming to understand one of her fangirls and realizing the passion her accidental hobby inspired in people. Like a fucked up version of those stories about regaining or finding your passion, with two horrible people, that sounds fun. Like imagine Grizz' reaction to the actual fansite and forums.
Instead, we just kinda get. Nada. Zilch. Nothing.
Feels weird.
The art style compliments the absolute bop of a soundtrack. Great game.
i like Grizz's design a lot, the fun paw-shoes and the rare chance to see the tuffted apron in the back looking tail like. its nice. also the art is really fun, i like the unique sprites, its really kinetic
an unique text window or font would also be good to differentiate character talking, especially near the climax; most of the speech pattern made it obvious but the hectic ending made it a bit confusing. just a tad.
