Hi Donato, recently found your channel and am loving it. I did my 2nd half marathon (1st in 3 years) at the end of May in 1:28. Hoping to get it down towards 1:20 by the end of the year. Just a question. With the pacing, doesn't slowing down to talk to those couple of fans and running clubs negatively affect the people trying to run with you? Not necessarily a bad thing but just something I found interesting throughout the video.
Thank you for the feedback and glad you are enjoying my channel. Good question about chatting during racing. You best ask them, if it affected them negatively? But as you may of seen, everyone who was chatting back with me all got personal bests, so maybe i am motivating them? 8 minutes off a HM is 6 months is a big ask, but all depends what your fitness was like when you ran 1:28?
@@PoetWithPace That is very true. I guess its like in a more recent video of yours where you state that all of your PBs have come from when you walked through the aid stations. There has to be some merit to slowing down periodically to allow yourself to be quicker overall. Anyway, love your videos and if you ever come to Australia, let me know and I will come for a run!
@@PoetWithPace Queensland. I am yet to run in any of the other states but from what I know and have heard, there is a reason they call QLD the "Sunshine State"
@@PoetWithPace Cambridge was 12 seconds, Manchester 13 seconds, so I think you're on schedule for 15 seconds next time. Just be sure to stay out of Wales, as you need the vowel sounds in the location.
I don't know where you find it from within to sing while you're running. I usually struggle to say "Thank you, marshal" at parkrun events, such is my breathlessness. BTW my best time at one of these in old age is 93:37 and I bettered that with a 93:08 at Stafford. I wouldn't get close to that now though, which is why I chose the 10K this year instead, plus I've done no preparation for a race this long as I've only recently picked up again. BTW I ran in what I believe was the very first City of Birmingham Marathon back in September 1981. We began at the NEC, halfway was on Colmore Row, then we headed back to the NEC. It was a scorching hot day and I naively hadn't run more than 6 miles in preparation. My time was only 3:38:27, but I went through halfway in around 87 or 88 mins, but then, like many others in that race, I resorted to walking long stretches on the hilly climb back to the NEC.
@@PoetWithPace For sure. BTW my parkrun time today was 23:45, so not a sub 23 as I'd hoped for. But it is definitely a long course. I'll use the next 2 weeks to lose a bit of weight and get fitter, because even if I kept today's pace up for twice the distance, I'd only make about 47:30.
Great video, I think you are made to be a pacer Donato, helping people with their times and entertaining them at the same time!
Maybe a new career for me? Thank you James and glad you enjoyed this. Be sure to share with all you know :-)
Great video!! That looks like it would be fun to pace in a race. It looked like y’all were having lots of fun. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you Andrew! It was awesome!

0:10 your elongated location-vowel PB stands at 14 seconds. Gonna need ever-increasing intakes of breath to beat that
