It’s ironic that our ancestors were connected to nature because we are nature . She has all the answers we need. I know we can and will reconnect with Mother Nature then we can truly heal .
Great story! It makes me feel good to see people who look different than me on the trail (I'm that Nordic looking guy she was talking about, but not skinny!) The outdoors belongs to everyone, and I hope that I can bring the outdoors to all on my channel. It is the greatest feeling in the world when someone tells me in the comments that I inspired them to get outside and hike.
Kudos! This makes me happy. I have always been a lover of the outdoors especially skiing. I remember feeling like the only black person shopping for gear in the Rei store. 😆. Keep up the good work.
I'm a White Bass Fisherman. Black people can go Bass Fishing too. Just FYI in case you were considering another recreational activity. Amazingly the Bass don't care if you are Black or White, and Black people can even buy a fishing license, just like a White guy can.
This brought sweet joyous tears to my eyes 😊! I've been longing to go out into nature, especially since the pandemic started. Us city-dwellers are sooo excited to get back to the land 😍 🙏🏾 Thank you for speaking out on this.
I really appreciate your video. I am starting my RUclips channel too and when I searched for hiking or nature trails or anything outdoors I don't see us(our black community). So thank you for doing this and I'm more encouraged now.
Yes! I wish I could find more black people to hike with. I rarely see anyone who looks like me when I hike and sometimes I feel like I get those awkward stares when people see me along a trail like "Oh, there's a black person hiking here".
Honestly she’s right, I really wish I could see more black people in nature, Black people doing those catch and cook things (hunting) black propel hiking black people farming etc, i always try to look it up but no more than like 5 videos show up, nature isn’t just for white folks lol, but seriously if there’s any black RUclipsrs that do these type things I would like to know about them
You should all get to Alaska. All Alaskans love the outdoors, no matter the race or nationality. Alaska is for all of us to enjoy and it’s very normal for all to be in nature. But, if you’re from a major city it’s great to get everyone out who normally don’t because of race.
Wow the gatekeeping was at its maximum in those times.Environmental racism that was depicted in the map (Joe wheeler state park) is horrific and saddens me deeply.it’s definitely gives the interpretation that melanated people are only allowed to be outdoors when it serves white bodies and people of color have trauma from that alone. This woman is a huge inspiration very happy seeing this beats the office setting for me.
Respect outdoors and others is all that’s asked. Quiet time is to be respected when forests post those guidelines and don’t litter. Don’t care what color is visiting outdoors
As a guy living in Belgium, i am a bit shocked that a simple relaxing activity like hiking is a race issue in the USA. Well it seems that this organisation is really nessesary, so i support it. Especially when the USA has one of the best and most beautifull hiking places in the world! Enjoy your countrysides!
I didn’t know black people were discouraged by whites to be in the outdoors. Weird…. 🤨 This has got to be some BS. I think it’s just not part of black culture to go hiking on the weekends. I don’t think anyone is stopping them. No one has stopped my dad, an Asian war refugee who speaks little English, from visiting Yosemite, a place he loves going. Outdoorsy people are so kind btw. You lose count of how many times they greet you or offer direction and advice.
Today there aren’t any physical barriers. But 50-60 years ago my family wouldn’t have been safe or welcomed in National or local parks/campsites. The outdoors aren’t a large part of black culture because there’s a considerable jump bringing your family somewhere you weren’t traditionally safe or wanted.
This is amazing, as a black girl myself I was always judged that I loved to go camping... this is going to change the game.. thank you 🙏🏾 ❤️
I love this lady. She is such a great roll model for us

Zhäy Bae Blíss well I agree but for me God has all the answers I need , he made “Mother Nature” so I go to the Direct source which is God
Camping is soo cool! No judgement here
I haven't been for this reason, but I wanna...
I love this lady. So inspiring!

‘Reclaim’ being the key word
It’s always about taking

I agree. Alaska was absolutely magnificent and everyone was outdoors there. I'll be going back next year.

And see I had the same mindframe which had me start my channel.
