My daughter teaches at one of these schools in WA State and she shares that this type of teaching is awesome. Kids love it! Fresh air and sunshine all day.
I am a Camp Director for a Nature Based day camp in MA. There are amazing rewards to having staff and children in the outdoors almost all day. And Tony is a creative force in this work! I have had the pleasure of watching Trackers grow over the last several years.
Hooray! I’m so happy to see that you included Sharon Danks from Green Schoolyards America in this piece. Their work to transform asphalt schoolyards into ecologically rich “parks” is so important.
My kids would have loved this type of 'school'.. they were very active and needed lots of outdoor time which we were able to give them outside of school!!
Outdoor classrooms can foster a sense of community and collaboration. They provide opportunities for group projects, teamwork, and social interaction in a natural and relaxed setting.
Although it's not quite Outdoor Schools, I'm pretty biased towards Montessori learning. Being outside and learning hands on has a great, positive effect on kids. Why did we forget this when we become adults is beyond me.
Forest schools are very popular in the UK. Even some top boarding schools have a forest school that students have classes in some of the time. It works really well with young children to keep them active and not stuck in a classroom.
A lot gets done through the efforts of grassroots! Excellent idea. I used to hate being cooped up inside classrooms! Hope more schools are open to the idea!
It's been demonstrated in studies that kids who do outdoor learning have better immunity. What's usually not considered in that is how toxic many public buildings are.
I want to sign up... I grew up in Long Beach Ca and your Sixth grade year and freshman year of High School, you attend a Fall week in Camp Hi Hill. Our school district used to own the property and now its Religious Camp Site. Learned everything about the outdoors there... Good times... Now kids won't stray far from Wifi..
As a teacher for one of these programs I can tell you it is strange how effective it is I really don't know why but you can tell a difference in engagement and retention
@@APerson-hu8lc trackers is amazing program and of course it's strange cuz the concept isn't actually that revolutionary it's just revolutionary to the US and specifically California which is where I worked at Northern Bay area I think it mentioned it in the video but Europe goes crazy for these programs
Authentic outside teaching Wow For this generation I grew up in the 1970"s whrn this was Free and had outdoors recrsd2and even walk to a nearby park near a creek and eat lunch there All kids everywhere needs this experience
I'm literally obsessed. Being outside is so much more engaging, your brain is working more, it's more awake and happy and better focused. Its probably cheaper than real schools too, cause you don't need to build, clean, upkeep, heat the building, meaning you could pay teachers more. Have schools located in forests would also decrease forestry and teach kids a love for nature. Why is the public education system not jumping on this.
15 yrs ago did this homeschooling my kids eclectically. Everything from doing community service at animal shelter to picking up cans along county road then figuring your pay per hour, noting ratio of ETOH cans to soft drink cans, distribution of cans from vendor, what colors lasted longer and why, picking up wildflowers to identify, going on any factory tour I could find, parks, beaches, my kids were there.
If education is not integrated with reality then it is pointless because majority of what children are taught indoor will never and cannot be used outdoor!
Unfortunately, they don't talk about how much all of this costs. Trackers is a school that only people from wealthy families can afford. This is never going to be available for kids from underprivileged families.
Actually, as one of the students for two years, I can say that the mask were definitely worth it. (In my classroom, at least) we only got sick (as in multiple people at once) one time. The masks helped and without them we would have gotten far more sick.
Maybe one thing they could teach first would be that it’s completely unnecessary to wear masks outdoors. You are outside with fresh oxygen produced by the beautiful trees you are surrounded by. BREATH IT IN. Please follow actual science and model smart behavior not blind compliance and fear. Other than that, beautiful learning environment
Good on Portland Maine Public Schools but does anyone really think that American Teachers Unions would do this en masse? Catholic and Private schools remained upon and remained safe-just as Rand Paul told Fauci last fall. Kids in public schools, especially boys, lost a year of their lives due to the raw exercise of political power by teachers unions.
This is GREAT!! At lleast they are back to learning something...But why do they have to wear MASK!! LET THOSE BABIES BREATH!!! They are outside!!! Give me a break!!!
Keep in mind for the cost of sending one child to Trackers Forest School you could buy a new Kia and have money left over. They've also been accused of racist administration practices by community groups in Portland, Ore.
@Amanda Aquafina the clip with the kid in a T-shirt and all in masks? Most people use a scarf, a ski mask or one of those stretchy bandana things for cold protection... using masks would be kind of odd. 🤷🏼♀️
We still got sick. (As one of the students) you should probably check how much they helped us. And it wasn’t even much of a problem, you got used to it and ut didn’t interfere with anything. No problem.
@@stillwatersfarm8499 and what would happend if we never wore the masks? (got sick in the recent school year, not the year that this was filmed). Recent school year didn’t enforce masks as much.
@@tiredraylabelike6576 So, now you are gaslighting. Got it. My husband designed the air handlers for Covid hospital rooms. Your little mask did nothing.
This looks absolutely phenomenal! I'm all for this becoming part of a normal curriculum.
As a kindergarten teacher in a public school today, I think this is awesome. Kids need to move more and be outside.
My daughter teaches at one of these schools in WA State and she shares that this type of teaching is awesome. Kids love it! Fresh air and sunshine all day.
Meanwhile in Finland, this is normal everyday learning.
I can't imagine how wonderfully this will effect these young students
I am waiting for outdoor community colleges and universities (public and private) for ALL ages WORLDWIDE!
I'm ready!

Love what Portland, Maine schools are doing. We love our outdoors in Maine!
Love this and love Portland, Maine!
@H. Nguyen you should look up Sudbury schools
@H. Nguyen no it is a kind of school. It did start in Sudbury mass but is all over the world now. And I went to one but not the one in sudbury

Thank you for spreading environment awareness!!!!! ❤️🙏
I am an educator, and I luv it!
Which one are you 🤔?
All learning should be started from nature...
Really, it's a wonderful modern method of outdoor learning & teaching kids, it helps them bring what they learnt as theories into real life.
Hooray! I’m so happy to see that you included Sharon Danks from Green Schoolyards America in this piece. Their work to transform asphalt schoolyards into ecologically rich “parks” is so important.

I love this! This is such exciting news! I'm sooo happy for the children, there's wonder in all of the outdoors.
According to Google search, there are 100 forest schools in the US. That's a surprise!
"Look deep in to Nature and you will Understand everything better".
Albert Einstein
I love this quote, thank you!
it's sad that this is considered different instead of the norm
This looks incredible! I live in Oregon, and would love to see this more!
love to see more forest schools in the world

I believe that this environment makes children more receptive to learning.
Love & support this "new" methodology for children and adults alike! May it become part of the new American curriculum 🇺🇸❣.

Sure takes me back to when I was with my class in the forest, but those were only Field Trips, from time to time.
My nephews went to a public alternative forest school outside of Burlington, VT. It’s been an option for kids for over a decade.

Best kind of learning
Students can not only learn from nature but also learn to appreciate and respect nature.
No piercing intercom. No slamming lockers. No administrators with check boxes. Nice.

The schools they talked about in Maine are public.
Lots of outdoor options out there. Tinkergarten is in so many 🇺🇲.

If there are any grade school teachers looking to do something similar, Mt. Baldy School in Southern California is hiring!

Sounds like Scouting to me!
Outdoor classrooms like these are amazing. That the children are forced to wear masks like this OUTSIDE is absolutely ludicrous.
