I’ve been using non-binary pronouns for Rika from the moment the game introduced them (and especially after another character started using “her” constantly and Rika didn’t look pleased about it). Because the character design just screams of Rika being another binary-defying character that Nintendo / Nintendo of America straight-washes for the western audience. @@fomxgorl Same. But I learned that one reason why homosexual couples express love differently is because they had to learn how to do it outside of social norms. This allows for a deeper bond that can be explored without replicating the way your parents treat each other, or TV couples treated each other. This also explains why I feel similar, because of my overly analytical brain, I had to learn how to do many things without relying on the socially provided framework.
This is all a complicated way to say that Love doesn't need to follow an established structure. Custom tailor it to your needs, your experience and your partner.

Story time about my perfect girlfriend: I’m a travel healthcare worker. I normally only stay at a contract location for 3-6 months. I met my now girlfriend 1 month before leaving while at work. We’d talk every day I saw her about the most random things like how lemurs look like Steve Buscemi in his younger years(It’s the eyes) to types of food I’ve tried while traveling for work. She would always smile when I saw her and her eyes would look like Le Vian chocolate diamonds, swear to the gods. Obviously this gorgeous siren goddess is like 5’10.5” of pure beauty. Duh. I had to just suffer through amazing conversations with this Venus because I’m bi and assume all gorgeous, gorgeous girls are straight.
Well, this goddess decides to ask me to hang out for coffee 4 days before I leave the state. I’m like, heck yeah!! I get to make friends with a beautiful, intelligent, amazing person and at least say I know her. Score for me. Then she just drops it on me that she thinks I’m cute and would totally date me but understands if the long distance thing is an issue. I immediately blush, cover my face, giggle, act like. 5 year old with a crush, and say: “I thought you were straight!” 🙄 I know, Stupidity is my middle name and Clueless is my surname. But my girlfriend knew exactly how flustered I was by my beet red face. She continued and said something like “I don’t want to pressure you, I just couldn’t let you leave without telling you.” 🤯😍💜
So, needless to say, I threw all decorum out the window, told her how much I liked her and thought she was beautiful beyond compare (literally used those words like I’m a villager from Beauty and the beast) and that I didn’t care what state I was in, I’d come back just to go on a date with her. I must have said something right because she smiled, said she was so happy, and we set up a coffee date for the morning before I left.
Then I get to my next contract place, we start texting every day, I continue to communicate how much I miss her and that she is the person I want to be with. This is the key thing here: I told her exactly how much she meant to me every morning when I texted her to wish her luck at work. I may be clueless and say stupid things at times, but I know exactly how lucky I am to have her. And I told her that.
So, she says hey how would you feel about me flying to you (I’m contracted in Honolulu right now), stay for 3 days, and we go on a real date. Guys, when I tell you I cheered in the middle of the hospital I work at because this amazing woman was willing to spend probably a butt ton of money, fly for over 12 hrs each way, be hours off schedule, JUST TO GO ON A DATE WITH ME?!?!?!?!? Of course I said yes, asked her how she likes her coffee in the morning, told her I’d pay for absolutely everything when she was here, and be her personal tour guide. She got the time off, came here for a Valentine’s Day vacation, and I’m going to see her in April for one week.
We had the most amazing first date/vacation/long weekend/first night together I could have ever asked for. I will make a butt out of myself if it means I can clearly tell this woman what my feelings are for her. I told her I loved her, I wanted to be with her as long as she’d have me, and I knew I wanted to marry her. I have no shame when it comes to telling this amazing human exactly how much I treasure her. We both agreed this is it, we’re going to get married, and we have to wait a minimum of 6 months before one of us proposes.
You know what I did with that information? I immediately looked into wedding rings after she left, found a designer who makes bands with meteorite to show her she’s my whole universe, and emailed them about making matching bands so I’d have it ready in July when I move in with her.
I already heard back from the jeweler, they’re so excited to work with me on this, and they’re happy I asked them early on to get them in time.
Moral of the story: if you want the fairytale, you need to tell your queen how much they mean to you and your true intentions. I’m terrified of telling anyone anything that has any emotions attached to it, but I would lay down and take all the torture of it means she knows she is loved and wanted. Be a Gomez, not a Chad. Tell them you love them. They’ll surprise you every time. It’s worth it when it’s your person. ❤
Edit to note: if you have never had a queer/non-heteronormative relationship and you comment “you can’t trust them or move quicker than the normal acceptable period” I have a feeling you don’t know the level of trust it takes to enter a relationship and trust your partner it’s safe to be with them. Especially if you’re openly queer in public. In America. Not in California, NYC or OR/WA. Every day an LGBTQ+ person goes out in public, openly themselves, it’s dangerous. To trust that your partner loves and supports you, even in a not as safe environment, is why queer relationships tend to move faster and the trope of Uhaul lesbians is a thing.

As an older person who has been in many relationships, this gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach but so much hope at the same time. I genuinely hope this turns out to be one of the stories that works out like a fairytale for everyone involved. And I REALLY HOPE that when you both actually know each other better that you still like each other just as much as you do now

@@maddieb.4282 I’m 35. I’ve been married, miscarried, cheated on, divorced. I’ve dated men, I’ve dated women. The difference is she and I text each other daily, at minimum 3 times. Our agreement has been 1 text of how the day is going, 1 text of something exciting that happened or is coming up, and one question we want to know about the other person. And that’s minimum.
I’ve been to couples counseling before my divorce to an active duty person, I’ve lost a fiancé to a drunk driving accident in my early 20s that led to the marriage/divorce I should have avoided, and I’ve gone through counseling over both. The great thing about doing this prior to meeting her is I know myself, I know how to effectively communicate with my partner, I’m not going in blind, and I know not to let outside commenters determine my love life.
So few people can say every day they wake up, they get to learn a one new thing about their partner at minimum. So few couples focus on sharing a good thing from their day so their partner can celebrate with them. And even fewer couples actually talk about and include each other in their daily lives outside of what they already share.
So, if you’re not doing those things with your partner(s), I can see how you would think I don’t know my girlfriend. Seeing as she and I normally ask at least 3-5 questions each and answer honestly, I’d say I have a better idea of exactly how amazing she is and how well she can communicate with me about her needs/wants in the future.
If you need any suggestions on effective communication styles depending on your partner’s love language, learning styles, or possible communication deficits, I’d be glad to suggest some great books on how to best open dialogue with your partner and build a strong relationship/communication style.
If this was just a comment on how 2 people choose to share their love and experience life together, I’d appreciate it if you could not. I’m more than happy to help people enjoy love, but I don’t welcome “sick feelings” from outside parties who aren’t informed about my relationship with my girlfriend. Thank you.

I am an art person, a programmer, a musician and a lesbian. My autism and adhd undo all those skills my fingers are supposed to have. Playing the piano for 5 years means I'm now up to about melodies from maybe 6 months of playing for most people. But I enjoy it and do it just when and because I like it. Drawing too, kid scribbles are so fun! Typing just goes a bit slow and took long to learn, but that doesn't delete the programming smarts. And yes, the lesbian stuff too
