It's been a long dark dirty road And pocket full of gold I've been out here now All on my own It's real quiet here Just the way I like it here There's no one to bother me Except In 1955, born into Wadena's pride I laid my head on that Milligan creek bed When I was a young man I helped build this land Oh, I put down these rails as a CPR man Thought I'd live forever With my heart in my pocket Oh, my gun by my side And my feelings in a locket Well, that was a cold year in '77 But I married my wife We had two kids I gave her a daughter She gave me a son And we rode those damn horses 'til we had none Fist still like flyin' Doing things for dyin' Oh, I should have put that old gun away Well I, I am a broken Cowboy And I don't feel right no more 'Cause I am a broken Cowboy Livin' life in the fast lane Racing cars and robbing trains I thought I had it all Then one day, I got the call A father's worst dream My son went down and I The colours deceive me As I see grey Oh, you're cutting me down with those Cold words you're saying Then you called me, brother But this can't be so, 'cause you Slander my name, anywhere the wind will blow Well, I am a broken cowboy And I don't feel right no more 'Cause I am a broken cowboy Yes, I am a broken cowboy It's been a long dark dirty road But a pocket full of gold And I've been out here now All on my own Well, it's real quiet here Just the way I like it here There's no one to bother me Except that old taunting tree
Thank you for sharing this video with lyrics. I should tell you however thaf some of the lyrics appear on screen only a split second after The singer starts to sing them. Which male it impossible to sing it on cue.
Love the song. But, I'm a bit confused about the timelines. He started a family during the winter of '77. He went off robbing trains. Apparently, while the wife raised the kids. Eventually, he was notified that his son died wearing the colour grey. Fighting for the Confederacy? He was NOT happy to hear that information. Which slandered his name every which way the wind blows. Bc, if he started a family in '77? (1877?) That's about the time the civil war was ending. I'm no historian, but THIS is perplexing me terribly. I know I shouldn't be overthinking the lyrics. But, my noodle don't work that way. ,😂 Don't get me wrong. I Love THIS song AND the band. The Red Rocks concert was AWESOME 👍🏻😎!!!
I don't see anywhere being notified that his son died wearing the colour gray. He says that the colors deceived him and all he saw was gray, meaning that life had no colours anymore as he lost his son. Depressed people also perceive the world as gray.

All i keep picturing is this as the opening of a Quintin Tarantino movie. Love this song.

blown away
It sounds so familiar to some of the songs of bad company...love it.
It's been a long dark dirty road
And pocket full of gold
I've been out here now
All on my own
It's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except
In 1955, born into Wadena's pride
I laid my head on that
Milligan creek bed
When I was a young man
I helped build this land
Oh, I put down these rails as a
CPR man
Thought I'd live forever
With my heart in my pocket
Oh, my gun by my side
And my feelings in a locket
Well, that was a cold year in '77
But I married my wife
We had two kids
I gave her a daughter
She gave me a son
And we rode those damn horses 'til we had none
Fist still like flyin'
Doing things for dyin'
Oh, I should have put that old gun away
Well I, I am a broken Cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken Cowboy
Livin' life in the fast lane
Racing cars and robbing trains
I thought I had it all
Then one day, I got the call
A father's worst dream
My son went down and I
The colours deceive me
As I see grey
Oh, you're cutting me down with those
Cold words you're saying
Then you called me, brother
But this can't be so, 'cause you
Slander my name, anywhere the wind will blow
Well, I am a broken cowboy
And I don't feel right no more
'Cause I am a broken cowboy
Yes, I am a broken cowboy
It's been a long dark dirty road
But a pocket full of gold
And I've been out here now
All on my own
Well, it's real quiet here
Just the way I like it here
There's no one to bother me
Except that old taunting tree
one word WOWWWWW
That’s actually just 7 letters.

excellent song and excellent group greetings from serbia
Just my opinion, but you should have used the Paste Studio version. That's probably the best rendition of this song.
Yeah I don't disagree but this is just a lyrics video.

He started a family in 1977 since he mentions he was born in 1955 (also worth mentioning The American Civil war ended in 1865)
@jakes4164 they weren’t racing cars in the west either
