+Scrap Computer what do you thing about allowing people to chose 2-5 roles instead of 2 or 5? I for example would often chose 3-4 roles on rankeds but i dont want to pick all 5(fill) because i suck at support and Im losing the game for the team and im sure it would speed up the queues if people like me could do this.
I thought it was just me. Like how fucked up is it that I get Mid 5 times, then 5 dodges. But oh let me get autofilled to support once and all of a sudden everyone is real nice and quick about locking in their champions and patiently waiting for the match to start. No dodges then of course. Shit makes me mad.
I know people that would take support but they prefer other roles and if they could pick 3-4 roles they would but they dont want to risk getting jungle if they pick fill for example. I knew it was stupid to allow 2 or 5 roles only and its like they are blind to that and will change everything else without first trying to change the most obvious thing and i it wouldnt help then they could try other shit...

EXACTLY. It's so massively irritating when I get autofilled to the ADC role. I can't do well with any ADC I own unless I get a tent pitched by my jungler and my support is INSANE at setting stuff up. I'd rather take an additional FIVE MINUTE WAIT so I can get Jungle>Top>Mid>Support rather than ADC.
Josh Reid I would wait 5 more min to not get you as my adc or any autofilled support, and i bet you would wait 5 min to not see me top lane or jungle. That would be such an easy fix.
Davide Lombardi I will legit dodge the queue if I get autofilled ADC and can't get anyone to trade with me. Support is less of a problem, I just play Morgana, maybe Soraka. I'm looking to pick up Malzahar to make my Autofilled Support games a bit easier to deal with, but my ADC mains I suck with, Caitlyn's my best, by which I mean my worst.
I dislike getting autofilled into adc the most too, but mostly just because I feel a big lack of agency in that role. Play a marksman mid/top/jungle and you'll have the same type of champion, but without being completely dependent on your team for the first 20-30 minutes of the game.
Funny enough, i don't mind being autofilled to support every once in awhile. In fact, I like support more than top lane, but if I put support as second, i'll never get mid lane. I just hate if i'm autofilled to jng/adc since i'm complete crap at them lol.
God Gabe this is the same for me always put top 2nd even though my preference order is mid/supp/adc/top/jgl just for the reason of wanting mid. I actually enjoy support just not worth having it as a 2nd pick
I just want you to know I queue as top and jung and often get autofilled as ADC. I had to stop playing for the second week of January because I got it too often lol. Still I just use the Fill option to try new shit out in normal draft before doing ranked now. Although the autofill protection doesn't seem to carry over from normal to ranked for me personally.
ScrapComputer it could be really cool, but it means in the rare case you got your 5th role you would have no chance of competing with your lane oponent
darknes7100 but in a lot of cases support is someones 5th role. And getting autofilled into it nowadays is really likely. If you have an order and it runs down that list it would be very very rare that you would get your 4th and 5th role.
It doesn't really solve anything. We'll still have auto-filled Supports because most will Support as 5th. I personally do not have a problem with this as I main Support; I just play aggressive Supports like Zyra if my ADC is on a losing streak or (on the rare chance) he is auto-filled so that I have a chance to play 1v2.
i liked the idea you mentioned early in the video, of giving us an option to disable auto-fill ourselves knowing it'll make us wait longer, that way players who absolutely can't/won't play anywhere but their main/off role don't have to while anyone who's more flexible or jut impatient about wait times can still auto fill. i've worked in a restaurant and when people order food and it takes 40 minutes to show up they complain (even though they ordered our biggest steak well done...) but if they're told there'll be a wait on their food cause we're busy they don't complain they'll either order anyway or go somewhere else. most people wait. if they give players the choice of auto-fill or queue times im sure most of us will take queue times over auto-fill
Or just improved matchmaking. You're lowering your chance to win by allowing riot to select your worst lane for you, you should be compensated to make your winning chance at least equal to putting in a proper secondary role.
Yes, that's the same thing I was thinking. Give the player the option to specify: prioritize my role(s), not wait time or prioritze lowering my wait time and I'll fill. Although, in a way, this is done already because we have the option of volunteering to fill. They actually have to optimize 3 things, not just two: 1. Giving player desired role, 2. Lower wait time, 3. Even MMR matching on both teams. Another option they could use is have player specify the order of roles preferred, not just pick two or fill. If you specified your #3 to #5 roles, if you had to fill on your 3rd role it may not feel as bad as filling on your 5th role which you maybe can't play at all. Or course, all of this involves non-trivial programming changes, and Riot will decide what they value more - customer satisfaction or programming expenses.
I wouldn't mind if supports got some kind of rewards for playing support. let's say play certain number of games as support in ranked and larger number of games in normals and get a free skin.

What do you think about Riot offering rewards for people to pick 'Fill'. It could just be something small like a small chance at a hextech chest at the end of the game. I bet it would be enough to convince people to pick Fill.
I wonder if it would make a difference if they let you opt into the auto fill option. Like, make it where there is a "higher" priority queue and a "lower" priority queue, and people who opt into auto fill are always in the high priority queue, while people who do not are in the lower priority queue. Then to balance it out a little bit, after so many minutes (around 5 maybe?) in the lower priority queue, if you have not found a game bump you up to the high priority queue on top of giving people 2-3 more games (so 4-5 instead of 2) of auto fill protection if they opt into the auto fill.
So I'm a support main and auto fill was the absolute worst thing to happen to my league experience. So I like to play top lane and jungle when I'm on a losing streak. I'm a decent Yorick and Diana and they allow me a chance to feel like I have a bit more control than when I play support. The issue is, I just can't do that now because whenever I queue for those roles, the support was auto-filled. So I feel obliged to give them my role so they don't int or lose lane. It basically made me loathe my main fucking role because I feel like I'm being forced to play it.
Same. I'm also a Support main and sometimes I will queue as Top or Jungle when I want to bounce back from a losing streak. Chances are, the Support is auto-filled so I give him my role. The sad thing is when they feed and I regret giving it to them in the first place.
I've never had that problem, because I'm really not that good at any other role than support - I can do mid disently, but I'm nowhere near as good as when I play support. My biggest problem is the few games where I do get autofilled as top, jungle or adc - mid is okay, but still I'd rather not :/
I supp as secondary and in those 10% of games I can jung I don't wanna give away my favorite role. The problem is that our autofilled supp don't understand what a supp should do, they pick aggressive supps (vel, brand, annie, zyra..) that probably are neither confident with and play them like midlaners. They buy sightstone but at the end I still drop more wards then him with normal trinket, they never buy pinks or use oracle, no deep wards or obj vision, nothing or really not enough (so why you bought sightstone?? you had too much gold? you wanted those juicy hp? 'cause supp buy it for be fashion?). So our team keep get caught die and lose gg wp.
for me the worse part is that you also lose autofill protection if there is a 3 minute remake, which makes it absurdly frustrating when you get autofilled, then the next game you get secondary role, then you get your main role, but the game is remade, so you end up getting autofilled again
There is a 'do you want shorter queue times and not your role', it's called 'manual fill'. We used to have this choice. We no longer do. Honestly, I think this: Fill should not be a role, it should be a toggle. If you toggle it on, you have 2 choices for your roles but you can also be put in any other role. As trade off you get a higher chance of getting your first pick. If you toggle it off, you have a lower chance of getting your first role, kinda evening out the chances between these two roles. Also give a little more LP regardless of the role you're given regardless of your win or loss, like 1 more. This adds up. This would encourage people to fill without demanding it.
It's not just that you are happy if you get your role,it's just that you may be bad at other roles and don't like play mid or adc...I happen to like being the guy that engages (fighter,tank or even assassin) the fight.
I honestly think the game would benefit from having 3 or 4 roles to chose rather than 2. Exclude one that you never get, and let it prioritise you accordingly. In order of comfort, my roles are mid>adc>top>support>jungle. If I could exclude jungle, I'd be happy getting the other 4 in the priority order listed.
Personally, I haven't played ranked in quite a while because I go on tilt as a JG main. I am always sweating bullets worrying about my bottom lane autofill. As soon as I see "Damn, Auto-filled again" I just know i'm not going to have a good experience because of it. Most jungle players out there are going to go for that bottom lane if they see that the support does not have a sightstone, and I hate having to buy a sightstone just to cover bot lane. I feel like my role as a Jungler has changed from "Support the team" to "Monitor your weakest player". Often times, this mindset forces me to change my perspective of said game to the point where I just do not play with the same level of attentiveness as before because my vision tunnels on bottom lane. I am paying more attention to my team-weaknesses than to my enemy team-weaknesses and my team's strengths. I do not mind getting Support. Infact I am personally feel that I play Support and Jungle equally. But in the tier I play, I am never able to make that roam because my ADCs generally do not think of support as Support for the team, and instead I'm support for just the ADC. It is frustrating enough to make me actually stop updating the game. I am really hoping the Auto-fill issue is addressed, because to me, winning games by abusing bad supports is not improving.
Giving an option to choose between queue times and role selection actually does not give you more options when you're trying to gain elo against opponents near your elo. By opting for faster queue times you would give yourself a disadvantage by potentially being put in lane you don't perform as well in.

The report function exists for a reason. We are also in a carry support meta, so just play a carry support. There is also the realization that ranked isn't for casuals. Isn't the fill/support position protection also in ranked? The next question is: are draft mode fill protection and ranked fill protection the same protection? So fill in a game of draft and then get one of your two roles in ranked work? Has it been tested?
One of the biggest problem is that usually an autofilled player has to play against a main. Riot has to fix this at least. If there is a shortage in a certain role in a certain bracket, they should put autofilled players on that role into both teams. So if I have to play autofilled support I would know that I am playing against autofilled support.
ScrapComputer, considering 'mid or feed trolls... ignore them. Trolling will cause them have lower winrate and fall in rating, while you lose one game and that's it. And also win in the sam way, but actually 25% more often(5 possible on oposing team, 4, on yours, 5/4-1). If everybody was ignoring such trolls, it would've been you winning and them losing. It's about having wrong mentality at treating them!

Worst is when you get your role, then someone dodges and you get autofilled in next champ select. I think someone should be able to queue for 3 or 4 roles if they want to.
I think that forcing anyone to play whatever role aka auto-fill more so in ranked is basically deciding the outcome of a match before it even starts. It's really that simple, me personally I would rather wait longer Q times and get the role I main then get auto-filled as adc and loose the game for my team, or have someone in my Q get auto-filled and them troll and int and loose the game for me.
another good solution would be that we would have a 3rd role to select, that way the Q time would decrease slightly and everyone would have nearly their role
Personally my idea for a fix for Riot would include an option to select as many roles as you are comfortable with playing so if you are comfortable playing 3 roles you can select 3 roles if you want to select just 2 that's also cool. So it leaves it to the individual players digression whether or not they want faster cue times or not. Personally if I could do it in League right now I would be selecting either Bot/Mid as my two primaries and my third slot would of course go to Support because I don't mind playing that role. I got a game yesterday which I got auto-filled Top which I don't do at all much anymore & I was just plain garbage at it because I didn't understand the match-ups and the mindsets of a Top Laner. This is generally how and why I would want this system changed. Like it or Dislike It this if you want I am also perfectly fair as well. Hope everyone has fun on the rift in their next game. I couldn't agree more with what you say. I feel like recently its been getting to the community a lot more. There was a time right after the change when people were fine with it, even if it was annoying. Now its just getting frustrating for most people, and fewer people care about the games they play in. They feel like the level isn't what it was, so there's no reason to play decently. I've had at least 20 games in the past two weeks with toxic players, whether they be people who AFK after 5 minutes because they lost lane after a few hate messages in all chat, or straight out trolls. It's becoming a real problem in my games. I'm getting less and less enthusiastic about playing just because I know 1/3 of the time I'm going to have a bad game. I also don't really understand how the system works. Several time I've had someone autofilled to support in my team, making me (as a support main) play my second role (usually top). Why doesn't he guy who's autofilled get top and I get my main role? Its the same condition for him, and i get what I asked for. I know i'm not the only one who this happens to, and I don't get why it's like that. I think each player should have a choice between having the autofill system enabled on their account or not, and that they could change in once a week or maybe every 10-15 games. That way the players that want their roles with longer queue times can have that, those who want short queue times can have that aswell, everyone is happy and no one can trick the system by switching every game or something.
I don't mind auto filling bc I feel I am pretty decent at all roles, but I always get people who get auto filled and have no clue what they are doing and go 0-6 by five minutes. I have had so many more people lose lane in my games since they changed to auto fill and that's my only problem with it.
what about making it so the only role you can be auto filled to is support? i remember with the older non blind pick system support would always take way longer and the other roles were pretty reasonable. i was also thinking about what if supports had there own special summoner spell and or change how support items work and give them higher gold income. low gold income plus required utility items are likely why people hate support.
i like the jack-of-all-trades personally. i came from dota2, and still play it a good amount. In dota there are 2 kinds of roles being 2 supports and 3 cores. We never had a system for roles, we just jump in and then we discuss and comprimise our set ups during pick phases.
I've never had anyone ask me for my role, you guessed it, I main support. I don't understand why people don't want to play support. Yes it's a bit harder to carry as a support but, man is it satisfying to cast a game-changing Janna ultimate, Soraka ultimate in lane to save top laner in his 1v1 and then have him thanking you the whole game, or 5 man Taric ultimate with perfect timing in a late game teamfight.
Well, i am a support main so the autofill dont affect me much. But it happens to very often that people complains about supoport autofill (when i play top or jgl) so I always switch with them, so that my team doesn't get a troll or a person who is absolutely worse at support. So i not a real fan from autofill, but i decently like it and think its ok, that when you get autofilled, you are autofill protected and garantued one of your roles.
Personally, I would change it to be autofill after a certain amount of time, which people can modify via game settings. Like, I would 100% want to wait in queue for like 4 mins and get my top lane rather than to be in a 3 min queue and get adc or support. However, once queue times get above 10 mins, I would not mind so much playing adc or support. Therefore, I would suggest rito to have the system be autofill. but only after a certain amount of time (like, default sets to 100% of expected queue time, but can be changed to either a percentage of expected queue time (ie 50%/half of expected queue time or 200%/twice expected queue time) or after a hard amount of time (ie 2 mins or 5 mins)) (of course this would be customize able by the players via their settings options)
i really like the idea of autofill incentives..i think it would be a really easily implemented system especially for unranked....for ranked i think it should just be straight up removed because there is no ranked situation where I want to be playing with someone who isn't comfortable in their role...
Honestly i used to main team builder and Played Pantheon Support in it so i don't mind the wait as long as i get my role. And let me tell you i kept getting kicked out of team builder a lot because people did not want a Pantheon in the support role the champions that did not mind however played Jinx and i did also get chat restriction a lot so i could not explain my reasoning for picking Pantheon in the support role just because i was doing something off meta i got reported a lot even IF we won. And they only reported me for being bad at the game when that report option was still a thing. But i usually did the best on the team but now days i would get banned for playing Pantheon support just look at that one Singed support that almost got perma banned. Keep in mind i would never play Pantheon support in a Ranked game even though he would make a great kill lane support but i did notice Keegun does still play Pantheon when he gets the support role and he wins. Makes me want to start playing Pantheon support again. Since that was the only role that i had a 97% win rate with Pantheon and i so do miss playing Pantheon as support i have not played it in so long that i am really rusty. Before you ask i have been playing Pantheon for about 3 years now and i rarely play him as support anymore but if my team has a Draven and i got auto filled to the support role i will play Pantheon support. Though i would also ban Leona because she is to tanky for me.
you can already do quick time and long time queue more or less, play one game autofill or support (queue time super short) -> get autofill protect for one or two games
what i hate most is when someone who gets autofilled into a role that isnt sup, for example, if someone gets Auto filled into ADC says they cant play ADC and wants to swap for Top or Mid, but cant get the swap, so me as a sup player can play ADC to a decent level ask to swap so they get Sup so as you can carry on ADC and they wont... i mean, its for the god of the team and some people refuse to go sup and play another role they suck at but could carry better with (this is in ELO of silver/gold)

I'm a JG main, so i'm pretty used to supporting my team. I personally dont mind being autofilled, because support is freelo as long as my adc isnt a potato. My problem is when someone in my game that ISNT comfortable playing support is forced to play it. It is several magnitudes more difficult to win a game with someone unexperienced in the role they're playing. But what do I know, i'm only silver It's clear RIOT is trying to give us quantity over quality, which is why my play time over the last few months have DRASTICALLY decreased
I think all they need to do is make the auto fill system optional. sometimes I would rather have a faster queue (when playing normals usually) other times (like in ranked) I'd rather wait to get me role.

Yes you're giving players more options, but no-one would ever pick those type of options outside of normals with friends.
the only thing that annoys me about autofill is how people dodge on me 6 or 7 games in a row, but the moment i get autofilled into a role that isn't mine, suddenly no one wants to fucking dodge.......... i swear to god the chance of that happening is almost 50/50.
Riot needs to solve this issue in one of two ways: 1) Make literally everyone autofill. Make everyone learn every role. Don't like it? Suck it up. Everyone deals with it. 2) Make literally no one autofill. Force people to play the one or two roles they sign up for. If they have to wait for an hour for queue, that's on you. Choose a different role if it's that big of a deal to you.
BunniBuu I think another option is to make a system where you can pick your first 2 and your worst one that you can't get filled into so even if you get filled it won't be too bad. I do well on every Lane but jungle and it's worth me dodging to lose 3 LP cause it will basically leave a 4 vs 5 for us.
personally I would pick jungle as my least favourite. I actually enjoy support and would be my second pick if only it wouldn't mean I got it every single time
I don't feel like you brought up how massive queue times would be enough if everyone was guaranteed their rolls. It's not just the 10 minutes the first person had to wait for a support of their mmr to show up, it stacks to the next group of people with rolls selected. Assuming Riot matches the first people in an acceptable mmr range into a game and has people wait their turn, people would eventually waiting an hour or more for enough supports to join queue to get their turn. Then, everybody who joined queue after them would still be waiting. Of course, you can't actually expect all those people to wait an hour to play a game as the roll they wanted, so they'll go play blind pick (but then they might as well be playing the current version of draft anyways). I think it would also make people give up on playing ranked if they have to wait too long, which Riot would never want since they do want people to play their game and they are a business. It'll always be flawed no matter what, and sacrificing my wanted rolls so that I could make anyone's queue wait faster- besides the other people sacrificing their wanted rolls for faster queue wait times, would be more triggering than that one jerk in game that spam pings your death timer every time you die. Except for the support mains. They're getting these cheese lanes against scrub supports with no idea what they're doing, and with faster wait times than any other player... That said, I'd strongly suggest everyone still reading this post (it's way longer than I meant for it to be) to go out there and try a few supports. If you're good at several of them or even just one, there's some freelo to be made right there.

My current most-consecutive-dodges is 10 90% of the time I get bounced into autofill by all the dodges. At this point I'm just maining support so that my games are consistent.
I agree with you. One day, i had 11 queues just because i had too many dodges (including 5 games where I got autofilled, 3 support and 2 top, i main mid adc btw). I was like tired af when my game started (i ended up adc), and my support was autofilled... he went AFK, and we had a remake. Yay.
I must admit, because I know I can't do jungle, I never click fill because of that, so I've never been in the position where I have a role I didn't want.

I'm a jack of all trades for the most part. I prefer jungle and mid to anything else, but I can play ADC and support pretty well. Top is the only role that I would prefer not to get (even though I do have mastery 6 Fiora, I just got a couple of games where I was playing against a bunch of monkeys). Now, my idea for fixing this is making support more fun, which is something that they've been working on. I feel like they should rework the support role next instead of tanks, making each support unique and fun.
Darkwing_Gaming As a support main I feel like it's not about the supports not being unique but people striving to deal damage and get kills instead letting others do that. I don't care about kills, although I play support very aggressively, I never get greedy. I guess in the end some people like to go 12/0 while I'm feeling great when my ADC is fed af or the enemy stays at 10 m distance because they are scared of my hooks.
Matt The Great I used to main support around the time when Braum came out. Thresh's release was when Riot first started trying to make supports fun and interesting playmakers rather than heal bots, like most supports were before then. Support also has several champions now who deal metric fucktons of damage. Think Zyra and Brand, both champions who are typically played as supports, yet still typically end up doing the most damage in the game any time they're picked. Malzahar support is also pretty popular right now and he deals a fair amount of damage. It's just that support still has this stigma of being boring because most champions you think of when you think support (Sona, Soraka, etc.) have one-dimensional, simple, somewhat boring kits. In my opinion, if the quintessential supports are made more interesting and fun to play, it would bring a lot more players to the support role, possibly enough to offset the long queue times if autofill were removed.
so basically the question is do we want higher queue times and get our role or 7 lobbies to wait through because people got autofilled and dodged or they make the game horrible. autofill has done nothing good for league
didn't they talk at some point that you pick your 2 roles and can outright ban a role in case autofill gets activated. again another feature that did never got implemented, without any notice or update, just never communicate about it, and no one will mention it.
my ideas - make the current auto fill permanent on in normals (low que times) and then make ranked longer ques where either auto fill is off or you can select a role that you can't be filled into also, quicker punishments for those who take games hostage for roles or Champs, as well as trolls in general, with greater feedback for those who report them
I feel the general cause is players quitting. Looking at reddit and official board activity, it's basically halved in the last year. Riot's made mistake after mistake on class balance, and honestly even the game's core focus has shifted dramatically since the start of season 5. I don't feel there's enough new players coming in to combat the hemorrhaging playercount.

This might explain why ranked games are either crush the other lane or get crushed. They are never even or close to evenly matched now a days. I just left league cause this kind of system tilted me so much, and I couldn't enjoy the game anymore.
Sorry for answering so late, I don't understand YT notifications anymore. Anyway it's not up for debate, matematically not putting autofill increases the Q times for everyone and not by just 5 minutes but much much more, you can find the math behind this by googling "delay stacking mathematics"
Then why have i had a spesific case where people dodged so many games in a row that i sat in que for 40 minutes? If we all just could get our role, there would be less people dodging, more people getting their role, and more people playing to their optimal limit
Does it happen in high elo? I'm in Silver and it's expected that people don't want to play Support. I was thinking that in higher elo, there are Support mains so autofill issues aren't that a big deal.
Did you know you can get your role guaranteed if you fill or supp in past games? You mentioned something similar in improvements that could be done, but that is already implemented :/

Nial Maciek had 40 min que bc of dodges once. And that was in bronze 1, and also i got autofilled multiple times, and never dodged, even when i got supp

I never got long ques before autofill except maybe once or twice, however i will concede this is probably because I'm right in the middle of bronze and silver. Even so, lets say that que times are normally 7 minutes and were increased to 15; Is it worth ruining, maybe 20% of your games on it? And I'm not talking about win rates I'm talking about the game being fun because a lot of autofills make the game not fun for everyone, not all autofills, but a very good amount.
ThirdBreastedOne well i would say League community itself will always ruin at least 10% since the it's the biggest salt mine on earth. The problem is that Riot had to decide either getting shit on for having long queue times(especially from their more important player base so platinum and above, diamond had queue times about 30 to 40 minutes for each champ select) and after they changed it, they get shit on for not being able to play their favorite roles all the time(but at least every second game). For me as a support it's not that bad. But i hate the way the system works the only suggestions i actually would agree on are not having 2 roles but up to 5 roles so that you can decide which role you wouldn't want to play. Also i kind of don't get the rant, first of all the system is there to give you your favorite 2 roles more consistently and it actually does exactly that. The system before was the "chat spam system" where you were never sure about your role. A change i would appreciate would be changing the system so that both teams have the autofills in the same roles, of possible

I personally have no problem with suppourt. I just play braum and no matter what happens I never mattered anyways till i get tanky. I can tell you however that im am sick and tired of people who are trolling because they get suppourt. As an adc main it is pissing me off. I for example would often chose 3-4 roles on rankeds but i dont want to pick all 5(fill) because i suck at support and Im losing the game for the team and im sure it would speed up the queues if people like me could do this.

I know people that would take support but they prefer other roles and if they could pick 3-4 roles they would but they dont want to risk getting jungle if they pick fill for example. EXACTLY. It's so massively irritating when I get autofilled to the ADC role. I can't do well with any ADC I own unless I get a tent pitched by my jungler and my support is INSANE at setting stuff up. I'd rather take an additional FIVE MINUTE WAIT so I can get Jungle>Top>Mid>Support rather than ADC.

Davide Lombardi I will legit dodge the queue if I get autofilled ADC and can't get anyone to trade with me. Support is less of a problem, I just play Morgana, maybe Soraka. I'm looking to pick up Malzahar to make my Autofilled Support games a bit easier to deal with, but my ADC mains I suck with, Caitlyn's my best, by which I mean my worst.
I dislike getting autofilled into adc the most too, but mostly just because I feel a big lack of agency in that role. Play a marksman mid/top/jungle and you'll have the same type of champion, but without being completely dependent on your team for the first 20-30 minutes of the game.

Funny enough, i don't mind being autofilled to support every once in awhile. In fact, I like support more than top lane, but if I put support as second, i'll never get mid lane. I just hate if i'm autofilled to jng/adc since i'm complete crap at them lol.

I just want you to know I queue as top and jung and often get autofilled as ADC. I had to stop playing for the second week of January because I got it too often lol. Still I just use the Fill option to try new shit out in normal draft before doing ranked now. Although the autofill protection doesn't seem to carry over from normal to ranked for me personally.

ScrapComputer it could be really cool, but it means in the rare case you got your 5th role you would have no chance of competing with your lane oponent
darknes7100 but in a lot of cases support is someones 5th role. And getting autofilled into it nowadays is really likely. If you have an order and it runs down that list it would be very very rare that you would get your 4th and 5th role.
It doesn't really solve anything. We'll still have auto-filled Supports because most will Support as 5th. I personally do not have a problem with this as I main Support; I just play aggressive Supports like Zyra if my ADC is on a losing streak or (on the rare chance) he is auto-filled so that I have a chance to play 1v2.

i liked the idea you mentioned early in the video, of giving us an option to disable auto-fill ourselves knowing it'll make us wait longer, that way players who absolutely can't/won't play anywhere but their main/off role don't have to while anyone who's more flexible or jut impatient about wait times can still auto fill.
i've worked in a restaurant and when people order food and it takes 40 minutes to show up they complain (even though they ordered our biggest steak well done...) but if they're told there'll be a wait on their food cause we're busy they don't complain they'll either order anyway or go somewhere else. most people wait.
if they give players the choice of auto-fill or queue times im sure most of us will take queue times over auto-fill

Or just improved matchmaking. You're lowering your chance to win by allowing riot to select your worst lane for you, you should be compensated to make your winning chance at least equal to putting in a proper secondary role.

Yes, that's the same thing I was thinking. Give the player the option to specify: prioritize my role(s), not wait time or prioritze lowering my wait time and I'll fill. Although, in a way, this is done already because we have the option of volunteering to fill.
They actually have to optimize 3 things, not just two: 1. Giving player desired role, 2. Lower wait time, 3. Even MMR matching on both teams.
Another option they could use is have player specify the order of roles preferred, not just pick two or fill. If you specified your #3 to #5 roles, if you had to fill on your 3rd role it may not feel as bad as filling on your 5th role which you maybe can't play at all.
Or course, all of this involves non-trivial programming changes, and Riot will decide what they value more - customer satisfaction or programming expenses.
I wouldn't mind if supports got some kind of rewards for playing support. let's say play certain number of games as support in ranked and larger number of games in normals and get a free skin.

I wonder if it would make a difference if they let you opt into the auto fill option. Like, make it where there is a "higher" priority queue and a "lower" priority queue, and people who opt into auto fill are always in the high priority queue, while people who do not are in the lower priority queue. Then to balance it out a little bit, after so many minutes (around 5 maybe?) in the lower priority queue, if you have not found a game bump you up to the high priority queue on top of giving people 2-3 more games (so 4-5 instead of 2) of auto fill protection if they opt into the auto fill.
So I'm a support main and auto fill was the absolute worst thing to happen to my league experience. So I like to play top lane and jungle when I'm on a losing streak. I'm a decent Yorick and Diana and they allow me a chance to feel like I have a bit more control than when I play support. The issue is, I just can't do that now because whenever I queue for those roles, the support was auto-filled. So I feel obliged to give them my role so they don't int or lose lane. It basically made me loathe my main fucking role because I feel like I'm being forced to play it.
Same. I'm also a Support main and sometimes I will queue as Top or Jungle when I want to bounce back from a losing streak. Chances are, the Support is auto-filled so I give him my role. The sad thing is when they feed and I regret giving it to them in the first place.

I supp as secondary and in those 10% of games I can jung I don't wanna give away my favorite role. The problem is that our autofilled supp don't understand what a supp should do, they pick aggressive supps (vel, brand, annie, zyra..) that probably are neither confident with and play them like midlaners. They buy sightstone but at the end I still drop more wards then him with normal trinket, they never buy pinks or use oracle, no deep wards or obj vision, nothing or really not enough (so why you bought sightstone?? you had too much gold? you wanted those juicy hp? 'cause supp buy it for be fashion?). So our team keep get caught die and lose gg wp.
for me the worse part is that you also lose autofill protection if there is a 3 minute remake, which makes it absurdly frustrating when you get autofilled, then the next game you get secondary role, then you get your main role, but the game is remade, so you end up getting autofilled again
There is a 'do you want shorter queue times and not your role', it's called 'manual fill'.

Honestly, I think this:
Fill should not be a role, it should be a toggle. If you toggle it on, you have 2 choices for your roles but you can also be put in any other role. As trade off you get a higher chance of getting your first pick.
If you toggle it off, you have a lower chance of getting your first role, kinda evening out the chances between these two roles.
Also give a little more LP regardless of the role you're given regardless of your win or loss, like 1 more. This adds up.
This would encourage people to fill without demanding it.
It's not just that you are happy if you get your role,it's just that you may be bad at other roles and don't like play mid or adc...I happen to like being the guy that engages (fighter,tank or even assassin) the fight.
I honestly think the game would benefit from having 3 or 4 roles to chose rather than 2. Exclude one that you never get, and let it prioritise you accordingly.
In order of comfort, my roles are mid>adc>top>support>jungle. If I could exclude jungle, I'd be happy getting the other 4 in the priority order listed.
Personally, I haven't played ranked in quite a while because I go on tilt as a JG main. I am always sweating bullets worrying about my bottom lane autofill. As soon as I see "Damn, Auto-filled again" I just know i'm not going to have a good experience because of it. Most jungle players out there are going to go for that bottom lane if they see that the support does not have a sightstone, and I hate having to buy a sightstone just to cover bot lane. I feel like my role as a Jungler has changed from "Support the team" to "Monitor your weakest player". Often times, this mindset forces me to change my perspective of said game to the point where I just do not play with the same level of attentiveness as before because my vision tunnels on bottom lane. I am paying more attention to my team-weaknesses than to my enemy team-weaknesses and my team's strengths.
I do not mind getting Support. Infact I am personally feel that I play Support and Jungle equally. But in the tier I play, I am never able to make that roam because my ADCs generally do not think of support as Support for the team, and instead I'm support for just the ADC. It is frustrating enough to make me actually stop updating the game. I am really hoping the Auto-fill issue is addressed, because to me, winning games by abusing bad supports is not improving.

Giving an option to choose between queue times and role selection actually does not give you more options when you're trying to gain elo against opponents near your elo. By opting for faster queue times you would give yourself a disadvantage by potentially being put in lane you don't perform as well in.

There is also the realization that ranked isn't for casuals.
Isn't the fill/support position protection also in ranked? The next question is: are draft mode fill protection and ranked fill protection the same protection? So fill in a game of draft and then get one of your two roles in ranked work? Has it been tested?
One of the biggest problem is that usually an autofilled player has to play against a main. Riot has to fix this at least. If there is a shortage in a certain role in a certain bracket, they should put autofilled players on that role into both teams. So if I have to play autofilled support I would know that I am playing against autofilled support.

I think that forcing anyone to play whatever role aka auto-fill more so in ranked is basically deciding the outcome of a match before it even starts. It's really that simple, me personally I would rather wait longer Q times and get the role I main then get auto-filled as adc and loose the game for my team, or have someone in my Q get auto-filled and them troll and int and loose the game for me.

another good solution would be that we would have a 3rd role to select, that way the Q time would decrease slightly and everyone would have nearly their role
Personally my idea for a fix for Riot would include an option to select as many roles as you are comfortable with playing so if you are comfortable playing 3 roles you can select 3 roles if you want to select just 2 that's also cool. So it leaves it to the individual players digression whether or not they want faster cue times or not. Personally if I could do it in League right now I would be selecting either Bot/Mid as my two primaries and my third slot would of course go to Support because I don't mind playing that role. I got a game yesterday which I got auto-filled Top which I don't do at all much anymore & I was just plain garbage at it because I didn't understand the match-ups and the mindsets of a Top Laner. This is generally how and why I would want this system changed. Like it or Dislike It this if you want I am also perfectly fair as well. Hope everyone has fun on the rift in their next game. I couldn't agree more with what you say. I feel like recently its been getting to the community a lot more. There was a time right after the change when people were fine with it, even if it was annoying. Now its just getting frustrating for most people, and fewer people care about the games they play in. They feel like the level isn't what it was, so there's no reason to play decently. I've had at least 20 games in the past two weeks with toxic players, whether they be people who AFK after 5 minutes because they lost lane after a few hate messages in all chat, or straight out trolls. It's becoming a real problem in my games. I'm getting less and less enthusiastic about playing just because I know 1/3 of the time I'm going to have a bad game.
I also don't really understand how the system works. Several time I've had someone autofilled to support in my team, making me (as a support main) play my second role (usually top). Why doesn't he guy who's autofilled get top and I get my main role? Its the same condition for him, and i get what I asked for. I know i'm not the only one who this happens to, and I don't get why it's like that.
I think each player should have a choice between having the autofill system enabled on their account or not, and that they could change in once a week or maybe every 10-15 games. That way the players that want their roles with longer queue times can have that, those who want short queue times can have that aswell, everyone is happy and no one can trick the system by switching every game or something.

I don't mind auto filling bc I feel I am pretty decent at all roles, but I always get people who get auto filled and have no clue what they are doing and go 0-6 by five minutes. I have had so many more people lose lane in my games since they changed to auto fill and that's my only problem with it.
what about making it so the only role you can be auto filled to is support? i remember with the older non blind pick system support would always take way longer and the other roles were pretty reasonable.
i was also thinking about what if supports had there own special summoner spell and or change how support items work and give them higher gold income. low gold income plus required utility items are likely why people hate support.

i like the jack-of-all-trades personally. i came from dota2, and still play it a good amount.
In dota there are 2 kinds of roles being 2 supports and 3 cores. We never had a system for roles, we just jump in and then we discuss and comprimise our set ups during pick phases.
I've never had anyone ask me for my role, you guessed it, I main support. I don't understand why people don't want to play support. Yes it's a bit harder to carry as a support but, man is it satisfying to cast a game-changing Janna ultimate, Soraka ultimate in lane to save top laner in his 1v1 and then have him thanking you the whole game, or 5 man Taric ultimate with perfect timing in a late game teamfight.
Well, i am a support main so the autofill dont affect me much. But it happens to very often that people complains about supoport autofill (when i play top or jgl) so I always switch with them, so that my team doesn't get a troll or a person who is absolutely worse at support.
So i not a real fan from autofill, but i decently like it and think its ok, that when you get autofilled, you are autofill protected and garantued one of your roles.

Personally, I would change it to be autofill after a certain amount of time, which people can modify via game settings. Like, I would 100% want to wait in queue for like 4 mins and get my top lane rather than to be in a 3 min queue and get adc or support. However, once queue times get above 10 mins, I would not mind so much playing adc or support. Therefore, I would suggest rito to have the system be autofill. but only after a certain amount of time (like, default sets to 100% of expected queue time, but can be changed to either a percentage of expected queue time (ie 50%/half of expected queue time or 200%/twice expected queue time) or after a hard amount of time (ie 2 mins or 5 mins)) (of course this would be customize able by the players via their settings options)
i really like the idea of autofill incentives..i think it would be a really easily implemented system especially for unranked....for ranked i think it should just be straight up removed because there is no ranked situation where I want to be playing with someone who isn't comfortable in their role...
Honestly i used to main team builder and Played Pantheon Support in it so i don't mind the wait as long as i get my role.
And let me tell you i kept getting kicked out of team builder a lot because people did not want a Pantheon in the support role the champions that did not mind however played Jinx and i did also get chat restriction a lot so i could not explain my reasoning for picking Pantheon in the support role just because i was doing something off meta i got reported a lot even IF we won.
And they only reported me for being bad at the game when that report option was still a thing. But i usually did the best on the team but now days i would get banned for playing Pantheon support just look at that one Singed support that almost got perma banned.
Keep in mind i would never play Pantheon support in a Ranked game even though he would make a great kill lane support but i did notice Keegun does still play Pantheon when he gets the support role and he wins. Makes me want to start playing Pantheon support again.
Since that was the only role that i had a 97% win rate with Pantheon and i so do miss playing Pantheon as support i have not played it in so long that i am really rusty.
Before you ask i have been playing Pantheon for about 3 years now and i rarely play him as support anymore but if my team has a Draven and i got auto filled to the support role i will play Pantheon support. Though i would also ban Leona because she is to tanky for me.
you can already do quick time and long time queue more or less, play one game autofill or support (queue time super short) -> get autofill protect for one or two games
what i hate most is when someone who gets autofilled into a role that isnt sup, for example, if someone gets Auto filled into ADC says they cant play ADC and wants to swap for Top or Mid, but cant get the swap, so me as a sup player can play ADC to a decent level ask to swap so they get Sup so as you can carry on ADC and they wont... i mean, its for the god of the team and some people refuse to go sup and play another role they suck at but could carry better with (this is in ELO of silver/gold)
I believe this problem exist because flex queue, a lot of people play that instead of solo q so the waiting time is longer.

I'm a JG main, so i'm pretty used to supporting my team. I personally dont mind being autofilled, because support is freelo as long as my adc isnt a potato. My problem is when someone in my game that ISNT comfortable playing support is forced to play it. It is several magnitudes more difficult to win a game with someone unexperienced in the role they're playing. But what do I know, i'm only silver
It's clear RIOT is trying to give us quantity over quality, which is why my play time over the last few months have DRASTICALLY decreased
I think all they need to do is make the auto fill system optional. sometimes I would rather have a faster queue (when playing normals usually) other times (like in ranked) I'd rather wait to get me role.
How is this any different than it was before the new champ select? People just got too pampered for a year and now they cant compete anymore?

ScrapComputer doesn't realize that giving an option to choose between queue times and role selection actually does not give you more options when you're trying to gain elo against opponents near your elo. By opting for faster queue times you would give yourself a disadvantage by potentially being put in your worst lane.
It's the same as choosing fill, I would choose mid / fill in ranked as I don't really main a secondary role and used to like the occasional lane variation in the old champ select without role selection, but I'd be an idiot to actually do so as it just lowers my chance of getting mid and requires me to balance out my play around all 4 other lanes rather than focusing primarily on a single one. Yes you're giving players more options, but no-one would ever pick those type of options outside of normals with friends.
the only thing that annoys me about autofill is how people dodge on me 6 or 7 games in a row, but the moment i get autofilled into a role that isn't mine, suddenly no one wants to fucking dodge.......... i swear to god the chance of that happening is almost 50/50.
Riot needs to solve this issue in one of two ways:
1) Make literally everyone autofill. Make everyone learn every role. Don't like it? Suck it up. Everyone deals with it.
2) Make literally no one autofill. Force people to play the one or two roles they sign up for. If they have to wait for an hour for queue, that's on you. Choose a different role if it's that big of a deal to you.
BunniBuu I think another option is to make a system where you can pick your first 2 and your worst one that you can't get filled into so even if you get filled it won't be too bad. I do well on every Lane but jungle and it's worth me dodging to lose 3 LP cause it will basically leave a 4 vs 5 for us.

I don't feel like you brought up how massive queue times would be enough if everyone was guaranteed their rolls. It's not just the 10 minutes the first person had to wait for a support of their mmr to show up, it stacks to the next group of people with rolls selected. Assuming Riot matches the first people in an acceptable mmr range into a game and has people wait their turn, people would eventually waiting an hour or more for enough supports to join queue to get their turn. Then, everybody who joined queue after them would still be waiting. Of course, you can't actually expect all those people to wait an hour to play a game as the roll they wanted, so they'll go play blind pick (but then they might as well be playing the current version of draft anyways). I think it would also make people give up on playing ranked if they have to wait too long, which Riot would never want since they do want people to play their game and they are a business.
It'll always be flawed no matter what, and sacrificing my wanted rolls so that I could make anyone's queue wait faster- besides the other people sacrificing their wanted rolls for faster queue wait times, would be more triggering than that one jerk in game that spam pings your death timer every time you die.
Except for the support mains. They're getting these cheese lanes against scrub supports with no idea what they're doing, and with faster wait times than any other player... That said, I'd strongly suggest everyone still reading this post (it's way longer than I meant for it to be) to go out there and try a few supports. If you're good at several of them or even just one, there's some freelo to be made right there.
Finished watching the vid. I'm a plat bonobo and I'm drawing too much on my own experience, there would be more players and therefore more supports at casual elo's. W/e, I'm off to the salt mines again, l8r.
My current most-consecutive-dodges is 10
90% of the time I get bounced into autofill by all the dodges. At this point I'm just maining support so that my games are consistent.

I agree with you. One day, i had 11 queues just because i had too many dodges (including 5 games where I got autofilled, 3 support and 2 top, i main mid adc btw). I was like tired af when my game started (i ended up adc), and my support was autofilled... he went AFK, and we had a remake. Yay.
I must admit, because I know I can't do jungle, I never click fill because of that, so I've never been in the position where I have a role I didn't want.
i hate auto fill i get why its there but i think they should have it be an option if u want to have a chance to be auto filled for faster games or wait for your two rolls. maybe even have the option for just picking one roll if you dont mind waiting
I'm a jack of all trades for the most part. I prefer jungle and mid to anything else, but I can play ADC and support pretty well. Top is the only role that I would prefer not to get (even though I do have mastery 6 Fiora, I just got a couple of games where I was playing against a bunch of monkeys).
Now, my idea for fixing this is making support more fun, which is something that they've been working on. I feel like they should rework the support role next instead of tanks, making each support unique and fun.
Darkwing_Gaming As a support main I feel like it's not about the supports not being unique but people striving to deal damage and get kills instead letting others do that. I don't care about kills, although I play support very aggressively, I never get greedy. I guess in the end some people like to go 12/0 while I'm feeling great when my ADC is fed af or the enemy stays at 10 m distance because they are scared of my hooks.
Matt The Great I used to main support around the time when Braum came out. Thresh's release was when Riot first started trying to make supports fun and interesting playmakers rather than heal bots, like most supports were before then. Support also has several champions now who deal metric fucktons of damage. Think Zyra and Brand, both champions who are typically played as supports, yet still typically end up doing the most damage in the game any time they're picked. Malzahar support is also pretty popular right now and he deals a fair amount of damage. It's just that support still has this stigma of being boring because most champions you think of when you think support (Sona, Soraka, etc.) have one-dimensional, simple, somewhat boring kits. In my opinion, if the quintessential supports are made more interesting and fun to play, it would bring a lot more players to the support role, possibly enough to offset the long queue times if autofill were removed.

what about a system of selecting what you don't want to play. Example: I am fine in any lane, but jungle I can't.
so basically the question is do we want higher queue times and get our role or 7 lobbies to wait through because people got autofilled and dodged or they make the game horrible. autofill has done nothing good for league
didn't they talk at some point that you pick your 2 roles and can outright ban a role in case autofill gets activated. again another feature that did never got implemented, without any notice or update, just never communicate about it, and no one will mention it.
my ideas -
make the current auto fill permanent on in normals (low que times) and then make ranked longer ques where either auto fill is off or you can select a role that you can't be filled into
also, quicker punishments for those who take games hostage for roles or Champs, as well as trolls in general, with greater feedback for those who report them

I feel the general cause is players quitting. Looking at reddit and official board activity, it's basically halved in the last year.
Riot's made mistake after mistake on class balance, and honestly even the game's core focus has shifted dramatically since the start of season 5. I don't feel there's enough new players coming in to combat the hemorrhaging playercount.

To be fair, dodging is only a 3 lp penalty (the first time each day, the second one is 10 lp, not sure after that).

This might explain why ranked games are either crush the other lane or get crushed. They are never even or close to evenly matched now a days. I just left league cause this kind of system tilted me so much, and I couldn't enjoy the game anymore.

Anyway it's not up for debate, matematically not putting autofill increases the Q times for everyone and not by just 5 minutes but much much more, you can find the math behind this by googling "delay stacking mathematics"
Then why have i had a spesific case where people dodged so many games in a row that i sat in que for 40 minutes? If we all just could get our role, there would be less people dodging, more people getting their role, and more people playing to their optimal limit

Does it happen in high elo? I'm in Silver and it's expected that people don't want to play Support. I was thinking that in higher elo, there are Support mains so autofill issues aren't that a big deal.

ThirdBreastedOne well without autofill ot was 15 to 20 minutes (plus dodges by one tricks and still toxicity) and you have the chance now to get lower queue times
I never got long ques before autofill except maybe once or twice, however i will concede this is probably because I'm right in the middle of bronze and silver. Even so, lets say that que times are normally 7 minutes and were increased to 15; Is it worth ruining, maybe 20% of your games on it? And I'm not talking about win rates I'm talking about the game being fun because a lot of autofills make the game not fun for everyone, not all autofills, but a very good amount.
ThirdBreastedOne well i would say League community itself will always ruin at least 10% since the it's the biggest salt mine on earth.
The problem is that Riot had to decide either getting shit on for having long queue times(especially from their more important player base so platinum and above, diamond had queue times about 30 to 40 minutes for each champ select) and after they changed it, they get shit on for not being able to play their favorite roles all the time(but at least every second game).
For me as a support it's not that bad. But i hate the way the system works the only suggestions i actually would agree on are not having 2 roles but up to 5 roles so that you can decide which role you wouldn't want to play.
Also i kind of don't get the rant, first of all the system is there to give you your favorite 2 roles more consistently and it actually does exactly that. The system before was the "chat spam system" where you were never sure about your role.
A change i would appreciate would be changing the system so that both teams have the autofills in the same roles, of possible
2Why don't just accept that 1 game over 10 (more or less) you are autofilled? Learn to play one support champ to use in the occasion and enjoing the others 9 games.

2) Cos if not is impossible to climb?(you deserve your elo then, also cos in promos you are autofill protect)

I personally have no problem with suppourt. I just play braum and no matter what happens I never mattered anyways till i get tanky. I can tell you however that im am sick and tired of people who are trolling because they get suppourt. As an adc main it is pissing me off. As far as the whimsical spoiled kid.... probably true but im honor 5 so idc xD.
