Wow Hickok45 that is a nice new blued colt python you got there I can’t believe the colt company made a new blued colt python this video is awesome you did wonderful.👍
I have been seeing many people unhappy with the rear sight. For a $1,500 firearm , brand new, you shouldn't have to seek out an aftermarket sight. Colt, get with the program.
You don't need an aftermarket sight, you can loctite down the factory one. Optimal, no, but doesn't take much effort to keep it from drifting. Considering I go over every screw on every firearm I buy anyway (as should everybody,) I don't consider it a very big deal.
I agree, I ended up with Wilson combat sights but the oem are rubbish. Shouldn't have to loctite adjustable sights unless you only shoot 1 load ever. No excuses at 1500 dollars.
I bought my 2020 Python 2 years ago and got a great deal on it. If the Blued Python would been available I would have paid the extra money to get it. I did replace the rear sight on my Python and Anaconda (new model) with a Wilson Combat rear sight, big improvement. Im old school, I grew up with blued steel guns and wood and even before stainless guns were around. Yes I am old. 😉
I remember looking at the Colt Python in 1982 $350 brand new in a sporting good store in my small town when I was making $3.35 an hour, minimum wage ,that’s like $2000 in today’s times ,I couldn’t afford it back then , then colt went out of business later on and changed hands more than once and quality was all over the board . But the 80”s was Really Great Quality Firearms 😀
Colt screwed up the machining, Wilson Combat jumped and came out with a proper rear site that fits perfectly. I got on and it’s solid. But one expensive piece of metal.
i was SO excited when i saw this on their website today. i used to be sad that they only had stainless (even tho it looks gorgeous), so i am very happy they came out with official blued versions. we are so back to the 1900s lol
My first time with a Python was in 1976, when a fellow 2nd Lieutenant and former LEO let me shoot his. I had the lowly Ruger Super Blackhawk .357 Magnum with a 6-1/5” barrel. The Python was very smooth. We would shoot out in the desert at old ammo cans full of water. My take away from that brief time with his Python was the harshness of the checkered grips. Brutal, combined with the .357 jolt. But a prettier revolver was never made. I have so many semi-autos but will have to set aside some dineros some day for a blue six incher
I handled a new SS Python last week and found the trigger pull to be smooth, but a bit heavier or longer than the smaller King Cobra. The latter had a slow, springy reset.
I got my python in 2020 waited forever for it. It is a fairly low serial number 007920 and I fortunately have had zero issues quite frankly I really like the firearm but I do rarely shoot it. Overall I am just glad Colt decided to bring them back they are overall really nice revolvers.
Never liked SS guns of any make but I realized how hard it would be to get the polish of the original Python to make em blue a bad blue job would kill the Python! Was glad to see that they did get a more than decent polish on em.. course they are $100 more than the SS version. My 1969 Python has a look that... I doubt could be commercially done these days. But the new one looks way better than other stuff out there..
Right off the bat, the orange sight and the missing “hump” that prevents the cylinder from sliding out of the gun on the left hand side of the frame gave away the new one.
Held a newer stainless python almost bought it but decided to wait.Glad I did I will be getting the blued 6 inch.I want a older classic but I know I wouldn't shoot it much. The newer version I definitely would.
Hi Hickok,45 were ever able to get some one to see if you can test a .44 AutoMag the one in Dirty Harry's film Sudden Impact . Yeah that film .highly recommend you test it out . There not cheap .very pricey weapon to have now .
I know the guy that has Clint's gun, it is here in Dayton Ohio. He even has the delivery receipt signed by Clint. The auto mag was never a hit though, it was not very reliable.
The Single Action Trigger pull is what was So Special about the Original Colt Python?! you'd think Colt would have tried to match it at least. But ,like hickok45 says, They did a Pretty Good Job for 2024!
I have two Colt Pythons. One in stainless steel with a 4.25 inch barrel. The rear site is always a bit loose. The other has a 6 inch barrel with a blued finish. The rear site has never been loose. Its just as solid as can be. Very nice gun unfortunately I cant hit anything with it. I placed a plastic quart container at 30 yards. I fired 50 rounds of 357 magnum and 50 rounds of 38 special. Thats a total of 100 rounds and I only hit it once..well sort of, I only grazed it. Then I fired 100 rounds of 22LR out of my Ruger LCP2 at the same plastic container at the same distance. That plastic quart container was so riddled and full of holes the back side was split in half from top to bottom. When it comes to my Colt Python I dont know why Im such a bad shot with it.
I picked up a 4" blue last Friday and shot a hundred rounds through it over the weekend. I like the finish on it, I think it's close to the original Royal Blue but trying to compare it with my 70's era Pythons it's hard to tell. The single action trigger is horrible and mine will pay a visit to my gunsmith to fix that and the double action as well. Do I love the revolver? Well no not really but I like it. After I get it back from the smith I think I might love it. I'm going to tell my gunsmith that I want the trigger as smooth as any of my Model 27's. If he can do that, then I'll be a happy shooter. Thanks for the honest review.
Nice guns! Pythons look so cool! But for EDC I have a Kimber 1911. No timing issues. In fact, no issues at all except for ammo prices. 45 acp is quite expensive these days.
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos That's strange. I've heard of it happening with 1911's, but I've never had that issue. I don't know what causes it. I'm just glad I've had good reliability with mine.
So I got a 6” blued python a few days ago. Just couldn’t resist it. I have pulled it out of the safe 5 nights in a row just to admire it. Now normally I can’t wait to get any new gun to the range, but I am now pretty ashamed to admit I’m almost hesitant to use it. It’s like getting a new truck and wanting to park it in the back of the parking lot away from everyone because you dread that first scratch. I’ve never felt that way about any firearm before. Like I said- a little ashamed
Most of us can understand that quite well. Plus, no doubt, the Colt Python, new or old, is a "supermodel." I think the guns are all test fired, so it's not like they've actually never been fired. With careful cleaning, it's going to be just as "new" as when you bought it. In fact, I usually get a little dirt out of revolver chambers just from the factory test firing. After I shoot them and clean them the first time, they are actually cleaner and more like new than when I bought them. I like to take a few shots right away to see where they hit and to make my first rear sight adjustments if necessary. My preference is that the revolver will hit where I want it to with the rear sight screwed down tightly to the frame, which is often the case. I see a revolver occasionally, though, that will shoot low without the rear sight raised almost out of the frame, which I do not like.
CZ has nothing to do with COLT, CZ and COLT are owned by the same investor group, but the two companies have nothing to do with each other. they are run parallel and separately.
They messed up adding a 3rd vent on the 4.25 blue. The bluing also looks black instead of the nice bluing on the original but still nice so either the 3" or the 6" for me since the 4.25 blue looks like a Taurus
I completely agree. I was looking forward to the 4.25" model until it was unveiled with that extra vent. What a ridiculous and unnecessary change to make to a legacy design prized for its looks.
Thanks for this, because I’d noticed that there was SOMETHING that felt off about the 4.25” model when I look at it, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I’d look at it and just be underwhelmed with it somehow not looking as good as what I was expecting. And sure enough, after this comment, I look at it, and it’s that extra vent that ruins it for me. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why on earth Colt went with it. Especially when the 4.25” stainless doesn’t have that extra vent. Just… why?
Sad I already bought a python before the blue'd variant came out but the stainless did grow on me over time mainly due to that desirable QR code on it.
I was momentarily distracted with the opening words. "I've got a pair of snakes" I honestly thought....what the hell are Biden & Harris doing on the show 😂😂
The easiest way to determine if a Python is "original" or the "2020" version is to look at the hammer spur. The original Python has a larger spur, which was (another) unique feature of the "original".
Yep. Even though all adj sight Colts built on that frame had that hammer back then. It’s actually blued then the sides are polished during fitting, which of course doesn’t happen on the new ones!
I kinda like the original spur to be honest. I have an request in for a blue one shortly... I'm not looking forward to that UGLY 3D. stamp on the right side of the gun. It was almost a deal breaker..

Had to replace the hand. Got it back, shoots flawless. Very accurate and no more problems. Very happy person now, love it. Beautiful handgun. 🎉

I’ve always been a S&W revolver guy, but this year I put my money into a couple legendary Colts and they’re worth the price!
I tend to agree with you. The new Pythons are very nice and actually probably better for any of us who wants to put lots of rounds through a Python.
Wow Hickok45 that is a nice new blued colt python you got there I can’t believe the colt company made a new blued colt python this video is awesome you did wonderful.👍
“I’m a Smith guy. I’m a Colt guy. I’m a Ruger guy.” Ok, really, he’s a REVOLVER GUY. I see a blued Python in my future.
@@stevem4783on mine, the whole site rocks in the mortise. It would need to be shimmed.
I agree, I ended up with Wilson combat sights but the oem are rubbish. Shouldn't have to loctite adjustable sights unless you only shoot 1 load ever. No excuses at 1500 dollars.
The Wilson Combat ones are what the factory sights should be.
All of these people unhappy must not own a 70’s or 80ms model. The sights have always been terrible. Breaking off or falling out.
The grips you bought for the old one are great.
Had a vintage 6” years ago, just ordered a 5” in stainless. Really looking forward to having the new model, thanks hickoc !
How’s the 5”?
@ its a great shooter, got it primarily for target but there’s times i wish i had gotten the four inch. Balance is pretty nice.
Rear sights are fixed in the last 3 colts I Boughts. Rock solid.
I have a 1974 6" .357 Trooper Mk III. Looks very similar, minus about $1000 😂
1968, 6” python owner here -
Single Action second to none ☺️😎
1971 6” blued Python owner here -
Single Action second to none - CONFIRMED 🤣
You may be right, but the late 1970's Smith 29-2 can't be far behind. Sweet trigger!
Set up correctly, they are jewels. I have a 67 4” Trooper that’s had a slight bit of action work and it’s indistinguishable from dad’s ‘61 Python.
I have a 4 inch 2020. Why can't Colt put a functional rear sight on a $1600 revolver?
They can. They don't want to and you can't make them
Colt screwed up the machining, Wilson Combat jumped and came out with a proper rear site that fits perfectly. I got on and it’s solid. But one expensive piece of metal.
Yeah I put Wilson on mine, they should be stock.
I pick up mine tomorrow!
i was SO excited when i saw this on their website today. i used to be sad that they only had stainless (even tho it looks gorgeous), so i am very happy they came out with official blued versions. we are so back to the 1900s lol
I bought a stainless steel 6 inch model back in 2021. I would love to own a blued model eventually. Preferrably a 3 inch model.
Watching from NW Illinois, where I go to Iowa to purchase ammo
Love this channel!
I got my python in 2020 waited forever for it. It is a fairly low serial number 007920 and I fortunately have had zero issues quite frankly I really like the firearm but I do rarely shoot it. Overall I am just glad Colt decided to bring them back they are overall really nice revolvers.
Gorgeous revolvers, beautiful craftsmanship.
What do you call a snake that works for the government?
A civil serpent.
😂
😂🤣😂❤
And they all REPTILIAN 😱😱😱........😁❤️
Almost everybody that works for the government is a snake
A liberal!! But actually there the leftist ! There's no such thing as liberals anymore! We are literally under attack from the international left!
Always love watching your videos. Seems like I learn something new in every one of them. Watching from a little town called New Castle, Indiana
I would like to request a video of Hickock45 talking about happiness and his philosophy of "Life is good"...Thanks
Blackstrap on the grip frame is also textured on the vintage ones, smooth on the new ones.
I still want colt to come out with some of their older classics like the New Service or the Official Police.
I’ll be getting a blue 6” to go with my stainless this year, probably as a birthday present to myself. Still want a 3” also not sure what finish yet.
Held a newer stainless python almost bought it but decided to wait.Glad I did I will be getting the blued 6 inch.I want a older classic but I know I wouldn't shoot it much. The newer version I definitely would.
I gotta say, I’m really liking the new thumbnails. Simple, yet effective
I can't go to the range with my python anymore. Everytime I start to take it out they tell me to put my pants back on.
I don't care for the fully blued hammer on the 2020 Python. But, I'm glad Colt brought them to market.
I have a beautiful blued 81 python with 8in barrel. I love it! Smoothest pistol ive ever owned
Beautiful revolvers...I love it. - Greetings from South Africa
They both do the lead toss! 🤠
The Single Action Trigger pull is what was So Special about the Original Colt Python?! you'd think Colt would have tried to match it at least. But ,like hickok45 says, They did a Pretty Good Job for 2024!
This looks like a great option. It sounds like you’d put the blueing or finish at 90% of the original?
Hello Hickok45.
Very nice, new blued Python revolver.
Cool gun. 👍🏼
Nice revolver!!
Were you in that movie: No Country for Old Men?
I really like classic weapons
I bought a new python in the mid 70’s for 280.00 a friend of mine still has it he also has a 5 screw model 29 with 5 inch barrel
They’re already on consignment up here for 2500+
I have two Colt Pythons.
Ottima la recensione del sempre verde revolver Colt Python. Al "PROFESSORE" un meritato plauso. Cordiali saluti 😊
9:23 was that hammer not cocked all the way back or was that some kind of a malfunction?
I love all 5 of mine!!
Interesting set of grips you put on your 81 python
Man! I should have waited! I bought a stainless one a couple of years ago.
Nice guns! Pythons look so cool! But for EDC I have a Kimber 1911. No timing issues. In fact, no issues at all except for ammo prices. 45 acp is quite expensive these days.
My Kimber is a misfiring machine.
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos Mine only misfires if I'm limp-wristing. Check your form.
@@bnizzio Mine has been shot by various people and it’s the gun. It’s very sensitive to ammo selection.
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos That's strange. I've heard of it happening with 1911's, but I've never had that issue. I don't know what causes it. I'm just glad I've had good reliability with mine.
Oh shit hiccok 45 still postin vids💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
The grips tell all!
I always liked colt more now because S&W is off my buy list due to the killing of ThompsonCenter.
Thompson center is alive and well! Back in NH!
Even on video, the finish looks really good.
I love colt and smith. Love revolvers
Why in the heck would they put a QR code on such a beautiful revolver?
Mass production.
@@66smithra They mass produce toilet paper and I don’t recall seeing a QR code when I’m whipping.
@@pamdemic7848 okay. I’m just telling you why it’s there. It’s so the frame can be inventoried digitally on the assembly line. Believe it, or not.
Awesome colt python 2020 thanks for sharing Hickok45
So I got a 6” blued python a few days ago. Just couldn’t resist it. I have pulled it out of the safe 5 nights in a row just to admire it. Now normally I can’t wait to get any new gun to the range, but I am now pretty ashamed to admit I’m almost hesitant to use it. It’s like getting a new truck and wanting to park it in the back of the parking lot away from everyone because you dread that first scratch. I’ve never felt that way about any firearm before. Like I said- a little ashamed
Most of us can understand that quite well. Plus, no doubt, the Colt Python, new or old, is a "supermodel."
I think the guns are all test fired, so it's not like they've actually never been fired.
@@hickok45 that’s great advice! Like I said- I’ve never had this reaction to a new gun before.
thank you sir!
Thanks CZ for doing a great job 👏
CZ has nothing to do with COLT, CZ and COLT are owned by the same investor group, but the two companies have nothing to do with each other. they are run parallel and separately.
The serrations on the grip frame are giveaway.
Boy,how would you like to clean the front end of those cylinders!! Haha
I like the grips on the old python
Just… why?
The one in your right hand. Can tell by the sight insect. Beautiful pistols.
You sir, are a legend.
Sad I already bought a python before the blue'd variant came out but the stainless did grow on me over time mainly due to that desirable QR code on it.
red ramp sight, different method of mounting the front sight, different backstrap, different hammer spur, among some of the things that stand out.
I was momentarily distracted with the opening words. "I've got a pair of snakes"
I honestly thought....what the hell are Biden & Harris doing on the show 😂😂
Love the Colt 357... Lol love the little adjustments . Click click click, click, click click 😁😁 shoot , click click click click
The easiest way to determine if a Python is "original" or the "2020" version is to look at the hammer spur. The original Python has a larger spur, which was (another) unique feature of the "original".
I noticed that also
I can’t believe Hickok ended a video on a bunch of misses! That’s a first!
Any chance you are going to review the new Colt Grizzly in the future?
I really like those grips on the old one. It's like us! We might be a little older but we look good lol
I most love my guns blued. Parkerized comes in as a close 2nd
Own a 80 ,8" python, basically inherited it from an old friends mom.she wanted 325.00$ back in 2004.yea,thats a inhertance.worth ,pushing 4,500$ value now.want a new one ,just dont like beating up on such a valuable fire arm.had it refurbished 5 yrs ago( not a remanufacture, just a thorough cleaning.
I recently commented on my new blue Python . Said it was junk, because had a problem when I first bought it . Hammer locked up on me and wouldn’t fire.Sent back to Colt, They had it for 2 months. Had to replace the hand. Got it back, shoots flawless. Very accurate and no more problems. Very happy person now, love it. Beautiful handgun. 🎉
My cylinder locked up after 18 rounds. WAY too many problems for the price
I'll take a QR code over a keyhole any day!!
The only 1 thing I personally don't care for on the new version is the black hammer. I would definitely take that over a new Smith ANY day, but an old Smith???
