Just think how shredded this must have sounded in 1977. Was there anything comparable in the relatively new metal genre at the time?

Wow that took me back I was at the London leg of this tour at the tender age of 22 Priest is on of my all time fav bands.
The song seems to be about Aliester crowley
    He called himself "the beast"
One of his main objectives was to get us destroy the idea of sin. To "sin all you want" cuz in the end, sin is just a restrictive idea. He rallied against the christian idea of sin as much as any other of his pet notions top destroy (he felt himself on a mission to rid the world of christianty)
"Sacrifice to Vice" is such a cool line, one that uncle al would have truly dug.
He intentionally tried to be the sinner to top them all.
HOWEVER, the most clear clue is in the lyric "30 years now sleeping"....
Crowley died in 1947, and sin after sin was released in 1977. 30 years..
I dont usually find priest to have many crowleyan references, but this one is a sure thing.
If you read and know crowley, the song is almost an anthem of what the man was about.

Nice! Rob Halford (JP) is still touring at around 70, and still hitting these high notes! I Grew up with JP. Seen them multiple times. Good friend was a roady for years with them, constantly giving me updates as he toured the world. As a younger man, that was cool to know stuff about them before others. Sinner is a good rocker, but this version seems a bit off. For epic screams, Try "The Ripper" off of Unleashed in the East Live LP. Yes it is Americans singing about Jack the Ripper in foggy London.

Gman Muller is right. JP still going strong 50 yrs from their start - check out their latest release from 2018 - Firepower - pretty damn good for a bunch of 60-70 yr old blokes. Recommend Spectre (not the official video as they cut the song short, the cut from the album) and title track - both bangers. Hear they may have anew album out this year - hope so!
