I(DM) asked my newbie players one night who the story teller was of our campaign. They all said me. I think one of the biggest contributors of a great game is the players understanding their role as the creator of their own story, and how it meshes with the world around them. Once they start interacting with the scenes the DM lays out using a first person mentality the game starts to elevate.

This kind of conceptual thinking about dnd is always loved, VERY much appreciated!

Where would you rate keeping others immersed into the game?
(For context, what is the difference between playing on a cars table in a basement and playing with painted minis in a room specifically designed to draw imagination in a fantasy setting with sounds, smells, and improv items. Similar to playing at a Renaissance festival?)
(Edit for further context. I occasionally attend gaming nights at a friend's house who lives an hour away. If I got to game with them I try to make it a whole day event so that I justify the two hours of drive time as I assume others do. That said I feel that the value would be better if the gaming place was comfier and more thematic then what it is, and possibly justify gaming for half the day. Wanted to pose this question to see what others think as I was thinking of investing in upgrading my home for such gaming.)

Being immersed obviously help having a better game, just like buying a nicer screen to play video games in higher resolution. It won’t make the game itself better, but it will make the experience more enjoyable.
As for whether or not you should invest into a custom room for your games that’s up to you and your personal finance of whether or not you think it’s a good investment, and I don’t want to influence that decision :)

@@MonkeyDM Hi! What do you think of having a dnd session (1st one too, after zero) in a local not-crowded-at-all fast food? Will it have disavantages for the game experience?
Actually, I'mDMing my first ever campaign and I would really appreciate any help form anyone.
      Thanks for helping 🙂

IMO the D&D group that works is the one where the rpg is the central focus and all the enjoyment comes from the game. I mean, if you're going to a rpg table to hang out with your friends and the game comes second then why don't you just hang out with them no RPG involved?
I had a lot of groups break because of this, we weren't interested in playing so we wouldn't take our time to go play, if we already hanged out yesterday then we didn't need to do that again today. Sometimes you need to understand if the players are there to play or just don't have anything better to do that day.

I very much prefer this format to the shorter ones. I think that the concept of escapism (on which I suggest the reading of some of Tolkien’s letters) is crucial to the understanding of the success of DnD.
But there is something that, in my modest opinion, counts even more: how not only DnD is a story told by the Narrator (the Master) but also a story shaped by its own characters. It is metafiction at its purest stage. How wonderful.
Keep doing longer and deeper videos, please!

I am sorry but this video is all over the place. I am addressing some of the points you make, trying to tie them back to the original question. CR campaign will keep going as long as these people make money. People watching CR have nothing to do with playing RPGs, instead they are watching a show, because, arguably, most of them cannot play RPGs. 5e is well into its rule and rulebook creep, in fact, creating duplicate products to realign it. Vanilla 5e is less about campaign or shared story and more about personal story, which is not a good thing.
