On my second game ever, (I've only played seven-nine times) the players started running around the table, doing random stuff, until they had to do their action. They didn't know how much work the whole game was, so I got extremely frustrated.
      Edit: my first own game

One thing I can offer is, when playing in person, I like to stand up and act when I DM. In combat I like to give them a bit of play acting when they hit a monster real hard! I Snarl and limp and give them wild stares, or when they're facing an evil necromancer I move my hands intricately and give off that necromancer demeanor. The thing is, when I do this stuff the attention is not just all on me, it's on the game. And when my players are see the energy I give them, they tend to give me back that energy in whatever way they can. And when they give me back that energy and get into roleplaying, I become their audience. I listen intently and show them that what they're saying and doing matters.

A high point in my DMing: I offered the players a break halfway through the session but they were so into the experience that they all demanded we keep going.

I'm a reasonably new DM so I haven't really had a session where my players got distracted or bored.. yet.
But my players are quite outspoken so when I do make mistakes or they find they're not following too great then they usually speak up.
I heed these tips though, as I'm sure without this sort of knowledge I would for sure have a session in the future where people start to lose focus. So thanks!
I will add though, that in conversations outside of gaming with a player I find it's always helpful to ask what I as the DM can do to make things more appealing. Just because it's your game doesn't mean that you can't take advice from your players. ..Basically what Brother Skodidi said in the comments. :)
    Great video!

I'd also ask them (in those private conversations) "I'm working hard on this -- but it seems like it's not checking the boxes for you. What can I add or change in the game to help you feel more involved?" ... but that's my personality showing more than other things.

Also about the breaks. I'll use your 4 hour session as an example. Rather have more mini breaks every 40mins (because of average human attention span) dosen't have to be noting more than 5 minutes for a short bathroom or geting more snack break. And after 2 hours or halftime have like a 10-15min break. For our camping that works amazingly

In face to face playing I use my phone when I am casting my spells as I have a full list and it is far quicker. I am a long time RP/DM I always take notes especially of npc names a few weeks back one player got himself arrested tried to talk his way out but when ask who he was working for he had no idea. I had 2 names plus what class they were also where we had met them. I dont like it when players dont seem to be bothered learning a npc name. Also if I have a good game I like to tell the DM I enjoyed the game as a DM you like to hear this.

#UniqueQuestion: I am 1 of 5 DM's in an online only, internationally played, open-world sandbox, Discord text chat (mostly, sometimes voice chat), theater of the mind heavy, game of D&D 5e... with roughly 20-30 active players playing at once together in the same world. I am DM'ing 3 parties myself, and playing 2 separate characters in two separate parties also.
Recently we have been having trouble with the game crawling slowly.
    - Do you have any advice about this?
    - How about any advice about this unique game type in general?
    - Would you like to come play with us? Discord is very anonymous, so if you did come play with us, no one would know it is you unless you told them. :-)

My players have their character sheets on dnd beyond, so they need their phones actually. In a few weeks we will finally do our first session that's not online. I hope they stay away from apps that are not related to D&D. Any tips for that :)?

I actually like D&D beyond as it does the weighs properly use to bother me when characters in my game were walking around with 1000s of coins with no weight it is why when I start DM Face to face will allow good old fashined character sheet but also must have thier character on D&D beyond. There are a few good apps for spells and druid wild shapes.

Alot of these just seem like "No you're not paying attention so we're gonna be a dick to you."
I understand it seems disrespectful to be at a table and just sit on your phone but at the same time if its a long winded solo interaction where within reason the character would have no knowledge of the encounter, it seems that having them being attentive about something they have no part in is more of a waste.
